To ask whether Glastonbury is worth it?

Friends asked us to try and get them Glastonbury tickets, I managed to get through and purchased tickets for myself and husband as well as I got a bit over excited at getting through! (Previously registered pre children!)
We’ve got a camper van ticket as well as really not keen on camping. Quotes for a camper van are £1300 so plus the tickets it’s £1800 before drink/food etc.
Thinking of returning the tickets and booking a nice weekend away for less money. Am I being old and boring? Is it really that amazing? Friends not going with us as they know others but I’m sure we will meet up with them if we go. We would be leaving DC with grandparents.
AIBU to return the tickets?

I have generally found that if I meet someone who says they hate the idea of Glastonbury it is more than likely I'll get on with them.

I think the UK is split into two groups of people: those who will happily pay £££ to wander around a freezing cold or scorching hot muddy field, not shower for days, use disgusting toilets, stand miles away from the main stage wedged between drunk/drugged up idiots (so basically watching headliners on a large screen - what is the point?) and listen to second rate bands in crappy tents styled as 'intimate settings' while convincing themselves they are discovering new talent vs sane individuals who would put their time and money to better use.

OP, use the money to go on a nice city/beach break or follow the MN mantra and book a spa day! You don't sound as if you are up for this and I fear you will begrudge every single penny you spend on this overly expensive camper van escapade. Even seeing Diana Ross live won't be adequate compensationGrin

Its so much more than you have described. Especially with a bunch of friends.

I haven't been to Glasto but know many who have and they have all raved about it. In your place I'd go especially as you have a camper van, at least you'll have your own toilet and shower and can take some decent food with you.

My son and friends went two years running with a Winnebago and enjoyed, particularly found it interesting to see acts that they really hadn't known much about before. They all met lots of people and said the atmosphere was great.

Have fun and don't forget your wellies :-).

No, I’ve been to a lot of music festivals. Glastonbury wasn’t really that good. It was just too big and lacked character.

You were lucky enough to get through to ticket, I would go!

I love Glastonbury.
I could happily attend the festival and not see a single band. Just wonder around the theatre fields, green fields South East corner and soak up the atmosphere. I could spend the whole weekend just ppl watching.

But

Think carefully about the campervan. My friends and I did take one for a few years. But it's a long walk up the hill of death each night to get to bed. And proberly through 4 or 5 other campervan fields unless your lucky to get one near the entrance. Glastonbury involves a lot of walking anyway. But your looking and an hour each way to your camper.

You can bring your own food and drink. You can easily to the festival on a shoe string, (tickets aside). I tend to bring my own drink and the festival organisers require every food stall to sell at least one meal for minimum price. £6 I think last time I was there. You can get a meal for less at some places. Toasties and pasties or whatever.

I ain't gonna lie as I get older I find the festival hard particularly the first and last day of the festival. As these days I camp. But arrive early and get a good pitch and everything is so much easier.

Yes the toilets are bad. But some are nicer than others. I will never go in a chemical loo and much prefer the soil toilets because they are much cleaner.

Also mud changes everything.

Glastonbury can be hard work and at times uncomfortable. But its the best party in the world. If you can be prepared to overlook the walking, and the mud and the poo. You will have a great time. You have until April before you pay the ticket balance to make up your mind. See you and the cider bus.

YANBU. It’s good you’re in a van. Go there, immerse yourself in the atmosphere and see that there’s more to Glastonbury than the main stage and bbc coverage- there’s so much more to see. The food is great and if you go to the stone circle get some mushrooms and free your mind. And laugh your ass off. Trust me x
