To think that fucking cartoons on cereal boxes aren't what's making children overweight and parents just need to say no to their kids?

Ffs, what are they going to do next, get rid of all sweets and chocolate in case the kids pester their parents?

I don't think you can compare being poor in the 1930's to being poor in 2020. So much has changed. There are families who live so rurally that there's no bus at all, they don't drive and therefore their only means of buying food is getting it delivered, or going to the extremely expensive pretentious village shop.

MrsBrentford · 05/01/2020 19:22

@Freddiefatpants

Why are you shopping in the Co Op?

It’s extortionate.

gamerwidow · 05/01/2020 19:23

My son has ASC I never cooked him different food
You should know then that all ASC children and not to be so goady.

Cryingoverspilttea · 05/01/2020 19:23

@superram except eating Frosties everyday as a child will have fucked with your gut health and gut flora and probably contributed long term to you being overweight now, if you are.

gamerwidow · 05/01/2020 19:23
  • all asC children are different
MrsBrentford · 05/01/2020 19:24

He hates the texture of Mash, he used to have a little bit, he is now 17 and will happily eat a full portion of Mash.

BuckingFrolics · 05/01/2020 19:24

I'm not slim. Size 16.

I see huge people in our supermarkets, with their overweight children,!toddlers and babies, leaving the shop with yes some "normal"food for meals, but also mountains of doughnuts, full fat coke, biscuits, crisps, etc. What I cannot fathom is why? Ok money may be tight. But these calories are expensive. And yes everyone "deserves" a treat but really? 8 doughnuts? I just don't understand the logic of being 26 but still eating doughnuts.

MrsBrentford · 05/01/2020 19:25

What did all these ASC children do in the 50s 60s 70s and 80s then?

Cryingoverspilttea · 05/01/2020 19:25

@PrincessHoneysuckle one chicken should last you two days. You dont need a breast each, you need to put more veg on the plate and half a breast each. A full sized chicken breast is a huge amount of meat 😳

IndecentFeminist · 05/01/2020 19:27

Honestly, are you this dim in real life *MrsBrentford?

Many shop at the co-op because they can't drive and a bus fare is a small fortune. Co-op and Tesco express are on the street corner and don't have a minimum spend, like home delivery.

As for the ASD comments 😬🤦‍♀️

Cryingoverspilttea · 05/01/2020 19:27

@BuckingFrolics Donuts are around 76p for a pack of six at super markets 🙄

Also way to go being a judgey fucker. How is a donut any different to eating a crepe or a creme brulee (custard! Ffs!) as an adult? Dfod.

Hoik · 05/01/2020 19:27

Most people were poor in the 1930’s by today’s standards but funnily enough very few of them were overweight. So how does that fit in with the living in poverty causes weight gain hyposis?

The way we live now is completely different to how we lived 90 years ago, the two are not comparable.

gamerwidow · 05/01/2020 19:27

I’m a size 14 but even I can see there is more to being morbidly obese than just stuffing your face. Over eating to that extent is more likely due to mental health issues then just liking food.

Neveranynamesleft · 05/01/2020 19:28

I feel that many people today dont know how to cook good wholesome meals from scratch. I watched my mother and grandmother cook basic healthy meals using fresh veg/cheap cuts of meat etc etc but because of convenience foods and takeaways on every corner home cooking seems to be a dying art these days. Yes some foods can be expensive but if you shop at the right time and look for offers you can make good meals at home. It's a sad fact that due to the convenience of takeaways and ready meals and all the rubbish that is pumped into our foods by the manufacturers the nation is getting fatter. They have a lot to answer for too.

gamerwidow · 05/01/2020 19:29

What did all these ASC children do in the 50s 60s 70s and 80s then?
They got labels naughty or stupid and punished because people were too stupid to understand the disease.

MrsBrentford · 05/01/2020 19:30

My son lives in a world which isn’t going to adapt for him.

He has (what was) Aspergers and I have never given him any treatment different from his siblings 🤷‍♀️

gamerwidow · 05/01/2020 19:30

Actually sorry I didn’t mean disease ASC isn’t an illness.

Hoik · 05/01/2020 19:30

What did all these ASC children do in the 50s 60s 70s and 80s then?

100 years DS would have been classed as sickle and would eventually have starved to death r died of an illness caused by malnutrition only it would have been called something like "failure to thrive" or "wasting away".

MrsBrentford · 05/01/2020 19:31

It’s not a disease.

DobbinOnTheLA · 05/01/2020 19:31

What did all these ASC children do in the 50s 60s 70s and 80s then?

They died.

MrsBrentford · 05/01/2020 19:33

It’s not true that they died.

There are plenty of people from those decades with undiagnosed ASC.

StrawberryShortbread2001 · 05/01/2020 19:34

@Muddlingalongalone - what are 'kids porridge oats'? Not being goady - just never seen them. Are they just porridge oats but with a cartoon on the pack?

I think obviously saying 'no' to DC asking for these cereals works but taking cartoon characters off so the DC don't ask for them would work too, so why not? Most cereal is sugary, though so maybe more cartoon characters on porridge oats as muddlingalongalone has seen would be even better?

Jellykat · 05/01/2020 19:34

I dont agree that some people load up their trolley with crap, purely because they dont have much money, it's down to choice too!

IndecentFeminist · 05/01/2020 19:34

Yes, and maybe they didn't have food issues. Think outside of your own bubble.

gamerwidow · 05/01/2020 19:34

And how many in that cohort had food issues?
