To think I don't need a double pram

Advice please ladies

Due to have baby number 2 in March I also have a DD who will be 2 in February.

I have my old pram from DD which I was planning on getting a buggy board for, then I was also planning on getting a babyzen and a really good sling for the days when DD could go in the pram for walks etc. DD will still be at nursery two days a week.

Is this too unrealistic will I need a double pram? I just think too big bulky DD can go on buggy board plus they are super expensive for a decent one?

YANBU, your plan sounds perfect. I had v similar age gap and used buggy board loads

Ineedcoffee2345 · 05/01/2020 10:56

I have 2 year old and 7 week year old. No double buggy. We use buggy board. 2 year old loves it Grin

Ineedcoffee2345 · 05/01/2020 10:57

7 week old not week year old Confused

creamcheeseandlox · 05/01/2020 10:59

I have a 2 yr gap and did get a second hand tandem buggy for the first 6 months. After that I used a maclaren and a buggy board that my eldest loved but I found that she would get tired if we were out all day on it and end up falling asleep standing on the board whereas she could have napped in the double.

Notanotheruser111 · 05/01/2020 10:59

It really depends on your child and how much walking you do. I had a 21 month gap and did what you are planning and it worked great. Then I had a third with an almost 3 year gap and needed a double. My first was a bundle of energy and great with walking, second completely the opposite

Deliqueen · 05/01/2020 11:02

It depends how much walking you do and if you have space to store extra buggys(we had a garage). I did loads so I had a buggy board for short local trips and a double buggy for longer walks in to town(2 miles each way). 2 year old would walk a lot but could jump in the buggy when she'd had enough. I miss those days of long walks!!

AtrociousCircumstance · 05/01/2020 11:03

You’ll need a double. When you’re out for a while and the toddler becomes tired/needs a nap.

SquareAsABlock · 05/01/2020 11:05

Depends if you drive and how well you think your two year old will cope out of a pram when taking your day to day life into consideration. I didnt drive when I was in this situation, so had to walk/bus everywhere. An afternoon of shopping or going out would end up with the eldest climbing back in the pram or begging to be carried, so knew before the second child arrived that we definitely needed a double pram. However, a friend of mine in a similar situation never bothered, their eldest could walk much better at 2, and they had a car to get around/hop back home if it was getting too much.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 05/01/2020 11:07

My kids are 2 yrs 2 months apart, and I used babybjorn and later boogie board

More "compact"

lisag1969 · 05/01/2020 11:07

I think it depends on the child, how far you walk, does the child like walking. Also we will child stay on the buggy board if you're distracted. X

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 05/01/2020 11:09

We were never out all day though, and toddler napped at home at 2pm every day

PotteringAlong · 05/01/2020 11:10

I didn’t have a double for 1 and 2 (ds1 was 2 when DS2 was born) but I did for 2 and 3 because, although the age gap was the same, I needed to do the school run by that point for DS1 and it was far easier and faster to just strap them in and go.

I got a battered Phil and teds for £20 from a charity shop, used it for a year and sold it for more than I paid for it. I loved it!

AJPTaylor · 05/01/2020 11:11

I found double buggy invaluable. Dd1 would not give up her buggy happily. Great for longer walks, tired days, poorly days and somewhere to secure them both.

okiedokieme · 05/01/2020 11:11

I didn't, same age gap, that lasted 3 weeks before I bought a double

SoberMeTimbers · 05/01/2020 11:12

Yanbu. I think that plan sounds fine.

I have a bigger gap than you will have and yes, even then, a double buggy might have been nice to have, but they are pricey. If I had my time again, I'd have thought this through when we bought the pushchair for dc1 and I'd have chosen one which could be adapted to make it a double.

BeanTownNancy · 05/01/2020 11:12

I got a second-hand double pram for £50 (Red Kite Twini) and loved it. Toddler could jump in and out and I didn't have to disturb the baby. Before that we would get halfway back from the shop and toddler would start whinging that he was tired and sitting down on the floor... If I woke baby up then he (baby) would want to be fed. So one of them would end up crying all the way home. 🙄

Also, buggy boards are an absolute PITA IMO. It was in the way of my feet so I was constantly kicking it or having to walk kind of hunched over, and it killed my back.

getmeouttahere2019 · 05/01/2020 11:13

I had a newborn and a 22 month old. I was pretty adamant I didn't want a double pram and would use my existing pushchair and a baby carrier or toddler would walk and baby could go in the pram.
Lasted a couple of weeks and I bought a nice M&P one from eBay!
Much easier (and safer!) having them both strapped in and I sold it again on eBay for what I'd paid for it when is finished with it.

Blippolbblopp · 05/01/2020 11:15

I think you'll need a double

I left my double pram when DD was 2.6 and DS was 8 months old. ( Was fleeing DV so in the rush just took my single pram ) At the time i thought it was fine but now DS is 3 and still needs his pram because he gets tired, i feel really guilty on DD that she had to walk at such a young age.

My DS is 3 and although he loves walking he gets knakkered, he will fall asleep in the pram if its been a big walk,

Id get a double, 2 year old can still walk if they want but at least they have the option of a proper rest if need be

Emmelina · 05/01/2020 11:16

A single pram that can convert to a buggy (we had a mamas and papas Pliko? I think it was called. There’s probably something more sensible out now), a buggy board, and a baby sling if you’re able to wear one.
Toddler on buggy board, baby in pram. If toddler needs a rest, into buggy, baby in sling. Or just toddler in buggy, baby in sling. We borrowed a double to try but didn’t do well with it at all, I barely touch 5’ tall and quite petite so it was exhausting!

balalalala · 05/01/2020 11:18

Depends how much you plan to be out in the buggy. We have a dog so did an hour walk every day and as such the double was essential. We still use it sometimes now (dd now 3, ds 1) and honestly it was the best thing I bought this time round. I got a city mini gt. I also got a buggy board but hate it so it's just stayed in the garage.

Jobseeker19 · 05/01/2020 11:21

I had both. This is because at age 2 your child will still want to fall asleep during longer journeys. They also get jealous if they are tired and have to stand on a buggy board.
But for shorter journeys a buggy board and pram are also good. The buggy board does get in the way sometimes though and if you are recoving from birth it can be a hassle.
I had 2 children 11 months apart.

formerbabe · 05/01/2020 11:25

I had a 2 and a half year age gap. Didn't get a double buggy. I used a sling for my baby and toddler in buggy. Or toddler walking and baby in buggy.

To be honest, it was quite tricky. I drove to most places but if I'd have done more walking, I'd have definitely got a double.

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 05/01/2020 11:28

YANBU sounds fine, a double pram wouldn't get much use anyway. When toddler needs a nap baby can go in the sling.

TulipCat · 05/01/2020 11:29

I have this age gap and found the double buggy really useful for the first six months if having 2. But then again, my number 2 was a winner baby, so I am talking about Nov - April period when it was cold and dark. You could always start as you suggest and get a second hand double if it's not working out. They are pretty easy to come by, lots around second hand.

zoobincan · 05/01/2020 11:29

I used a double for mine who were 22 months apart. I regularly went for long walks in the afternoon and they both napped. It saved my sanity.
