AIBU to think there’s no such thing as a plus size wedding outfit suitable for an on the go mum?

My sister in law is having a very fancy black tie wedding in April. Obviously I want to wear something nice, we’re not well off so I can’t spend too much but I can afford a new frock.

However here’s the thing. Not only am I overweight (size 18/20) but I’m constantly on the go with my son who has ADHD and SPD. I need to be able to run, bend down multiple times without flashing, pick up and carry an 8 year old and be climbed on. All while looking nice and retaining some modesty. Help! Does such an outfit exist? Last time I went to a family wedding I looked awful in a mismatched outfit I had thrown together and I tore my pretty dress chasing my whirlwind who was a toddler at the time. Shall I just accept defeat and wear leggings and a jumper as usual?

I think in your situation I would buy a suit from sainsburys sale rail or simillar (smart & inexpensive) then get a nice top from somewhere like oasis. Dresses/skirts and heels are a mare if you need to chase after a child, or carry a child or sit on the floor. I would try to find a tux/DJ equivalent for women, flat shoes & trews!

If you've got a bit of time, try joining some plus size FB selling groups. I see a lot of dressy/eveningwear on them but also if you post exactly what you're looking for (as in your op) you may remind people of something they've got languishing in the back of the wardrobe. Someone was looking for a particular style and colour of shoes on one the other day and got about half a dozen immediate responses!
