To thing the icecream man is up to something?

It's January. It's 4c and it's raining.
Surely no one is buying enough icecream to make it worthwhile?
Yet the van is still slogging on, Yankeedoodling his way up and down the street.
We live in a village, there's no events nearby.

Drugs it's always drugs in the winter

PlumsGalore · 04/01/2020 18:09

BTW, the police aren’t interested in these sellers, same as they weren’t interested in the boys riding BMX bikes up and down DDs uni street delivering drugs. I used to sit in the window and watch them, they even put business cards through the door with their mobile number, name and available drugs on it.

The police said the only way to stop the small fry is to stop the big guys and thats where the investment goes. Makes sense.

Meanwhile Mr Whippy does a good line in illegal drugs and smuggled fags knowing he is too small for the police to be interested.

adaline · 04/01/2020 18:10

Really? Either I live in a naice area or you guys all live in dodgy ones! or I'm old

They sell ice-cream as well, of course. But they absolutely do sell drugs, cigarettes and alcohol as well.

Harriett123 · 04/01/2020 18:12

When I lived in Glasgow the ice cream van would drive around at night playing its song. They were selling drugs.

StoneColdSaidSo · 04/01/2020 18:15

The ice cream man where I love is always the local weed dealer.

StoneColdSaidSo · 04/01/2020 18:16

Where I live is also ffs!

PhilCornwall1 · 04/01/2020 18:21

He's selling a different kind of ice.

XXcstatic · 04/01/2020 18:25

It's not just/mainly the police that small dealers worry about - it''s other dealers. Driving around in a conspicuous vehicle that can only move at slow speed, supposedly full of drugs & takings, is asking to get ripped off. Also, it's making the customers very easy to identify. It just makes no sense when you can sell discretely via encrypted What's App. And I note that only one poster has claimed to have actually bought drugs from an ICV, and that was a stationary one.

Not saying it never happens, but I am deeply sceptical that it is standard practice.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/01/2020 18:37

You clearly don’t live in Glasgow where an ice cream van will sell anything from nappies, Askit powders to single cigarettes.

Did they used to take gingies in payment?!

Hepsibar · 04/01/2020 18:44

How sad icecream vans are or people perceive them to be drug dealers. I would have thought it being holidays and if not raining he was thinking of business ... but then I havent come across drug selling icecream vans.

Ontheboardwalk · 04/01/2020 18:52

Ice cream van came down my road yesterday, not seen him tonight yet.

Anyone know the secret code for the north west? I'll give it a go 😉

StylishMummy · 04/01/2020 18:58

I've bought weed from 2 separate ICVs early 2010s, one at a festival and the other in the local park. Still charged £2.29 for a 99 with a flake - the robbing bastard Grin

Marriedtoapenguin · 04/01/2020 19:08

My ice cream man as a kid sold fags. Lots of them. To anyone.

The drug selling ones must have nerves of steel to drive around on their own advertising their location.

Could be Mr Whippy is code for alternative practices.

BorissGiantJohnson · 04/01/2020 19:38

It's a surveillance van. They're trying to find out the tactics of their opponents in the upcoming annual priests over 75s indoor 5 a side football tournament. Keep an eye on your corner flags as well.

Kn0ckOnTheDoor · 04/01/2020 19:38

@Ontheboardwalk its not frederick's is it? hes always been a bad'un. notorious turf war with him and several others. theres a reason hes top dog round my area.

Ontheboardwalk · 04/01/2020 20:04

Kn0ckOnTheDoor no not a Frederick's van, was a dodgy looking one I’ve not seen before. That’s what caught my eye, well that and it being January.

I have however seen the Frederick's vans doing the rounds in my area. They are def top dog around here as well, we might be neighbours. I'll wave to you next time we are both in the van queue for the dodgy goods

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/01/2020 22:24

Is that Frederick's as in crooked spire territory and surrounding localities? I've bought from them when visiting the area and found them nice, but nowhere near as amazing as they trumpet them to be.

The daddy of them all when it comes to ice cream is hands-down Ronaldo's of Norwich. There are a number of reasons why I often think I'd love to live in Norfolk - and that's definitely one of them!

Ontheboardwalk · 04/01/2020 23:25

Not the Frederick’s but an example of ice cream wars in the area www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/ice-cream-wars-man-smashed-11636531.amp

MarleyBarley18 · 05/01/2020 01:30

Lol had the same issue, ICV heard driving round every evening at 8ish I mean come on.. pitch black and freezing cold out? I feel the same way about most vape shops! Something dodgy going on as all the ones I see are always empty and the staff doing FA!
sneaky sneaky..

Brimful · 05/01/2020 01:45

I live in a very rough area and it's well known the local ice cream van that ding-dongs around is selling drugs. It's so odd seeing adults go up to the van and not so slyly buy whatever drug of choice, then whisk themselves away, no Mr Whippy in sight.

I really thought it was just here!

whenskiesaregrey · 05/01/2020 01:54

100% drugs. Same with a few of our chippies Confused

NewtonPulsifer · 05/01/2020 01:56

The local ice cream man here is dodgy. The first and last time when I bought an ice cream for DS from him I was horrified when I saw the state of his teeth. If I hadn’t have had an excited 3 year old with me I’d have cancelled. If the guy can’t keep his teeth clean I worry about his ice cream Van cleanliness. Then I remembered Sean Ryder’s drugs teeth and this ICV man’s teeth were the same.

bettybattenburg · 05/01/2020 02:01

If they do sell drugs then it'd be so easy for the police to arrest them, surely they don't really sell drugs ? Shock

Ishotmrburns · 05/01/2020 02:01

Is it a student area?

When we were students we bought most of our drugs from the ice cream man. I think it's a pretty common thing throughout the UK.

HalfManHalfLabrador · 05/01/2020 02:01

Drugs and knock off cigarettes here in Ireland anyway. Always has been.
