OMG help - carpet nightmare

posting for traffic.
I live with my OH and he's selling the house, where we will be moving to a house we own together.
He has had new carpets fitted really recently, which was a huge deal for him as the upstairs was bare floorboards for about 4 years due to some electrical work that kept getting delayed.

He's mega precious about the house anyway (gets really upset if theres a mark on the wall, if the dog gets mud on the skirting etc) and is spending all day, everyday renovating the house ready for sale.

Also, things are really stressy at the moment because of the new house.

I've just spilt dry PIGMENT on the new carpet in the spare bedroom. PIGMENT! (used for making paint). I tripped and the box fell from my hands Sad

This stuff is evil and it 110% stains (its pthalo green of all bloody colours, one of the most evil pigments).

He's downstairs and didn't hear me fall.

It's dry, so I'm hoping the majority will hoover up but I can't hoover until tomorrow morning when he's out walking the dog, because if he hears me hoovering now he'll know what's happened.
I'm not convinced hoovering will get it all up.

Carpet is dark grey, sort of speckled so at least it isn't white - worst case is I can pay to have someone come and replace it but I'd rather not own up to it if I can help it; he's already really stressed out.

HELP!

Has anyone had anything similar happen? How the fuck do I get pigment out of a carpet?!

Not sure if suggested already but you could try putting talc on it, leaving for 30 min then hoover up the talc. Hopefully the talc would absorb some of the pigment?

I~m too tired to read full thread this evening, but has anyone suggested contacting pigment manufacturers for help? Should be quick and simple.
I'd tell husband too, otherwise he could walk in on it and really have a shock.
Just in case you're unlucky and it leaves a mark, I did recently remove spilled black coffee from my cream carpet using plain glycerine (finished with warm water, but this might not be suitable for you).

Have you tried a sticky clothes roller or sellotape to try to lift the powder? It worked years ago when my friend spilled toner cartridge powder on her best suit. I definitely wouldn't add any moisture, as that will just spread it further.

At least he's seen the funny side. To make you feel a bit better, here is my flooring story.

A couple of years ago I replaced my flooring. For some reason the carpet for bedrooms was delayed, so the vinyl was put down first. I have a rescue dog who peed on the existing carpet, so needed non absorbent flooring in open areas hence vinyl.

It was a drama from start to end. The guy doing the quote didn't show up - he'd broken his arm and they didn't have a central diary system. Once he showed up, I ordered the flooring I liked, arranged installation. Carpet was delayed, so did vinyl first.

Luckily I was home as the installers rolled it out and it was the wrong colour. They were great and encouraged me to call the shop if I was certain I was wrong. Luckily I'd taken pics of the samples i picked - they rolled out grey, I'd picked a sand colour.

The installers were going to come back on the weekend but the store just messed around. I think I had two weeks with concrete for floors. Had to reschedule carpet as all furniture was in the carpeted rooms (bedrooms).

Vinyl eventually laid, beautiful job. Carpet guy comes and does the bedrooms. I didn't notice at the time, but he got glue on two of my brand new mats, all down the brand new vinyl in the hallway and all over my not long painted internal doors (only noticed the doors well after this debacle). Immediately called flooring company as didn't want to damage the vinyl trying to remove the glue incorrectly. Was spoken to so condescendingly I was ropeable. Anyway I insisted they cleaned the glue up so they sent the carpet guy back - that took a week. He was unable to remove the glue with a stanley knife and turps, so it wasn't the easy little job the arsehole made it out to be. Had to replace all of the vinyl in the hallway. Luckily I loved the vinyl guys. Carpet guy said he'd do it but I refused to let him near it.

Replacement of the mats was another drama. They wouldn't order and pay directly from the link I sent them, so I had to cough up the purchase price again and be reimbursed. Then, instead of transferring to my account, they sent me a bloody cheque!

What should have been a simple three contacts on three days - quote, install vinyl, install carpet - turned into 30+ contacts and multiple days off work to get resolved. Overall I think it took 4 months, not 3 days.

I could have understood if I'd used Dodgy Brothers Are Us, but I used a very well known company.

How big is the room? If as you say it was a budget carpet, forget the insurance company. You'll probably have an excess, it takes ages to get sorted, just get some new carpet. Probably max £40 to get it laid if it's a smallish room.

You don't want to be putting anything moist on that either. It's easier to just say the carpets buggered and replace it.

If you are clumsy, when you are doing art projects, just put a cover over the floor, a fairly thick one judging by what you use. It saves on any stress all round.

That is Brilliant Green and will not come out. We have a kitchen bench stained with it. Either replace the carpet or put an armchair over it.

Wtf is an OH? And you're moving in with him/her....? Back when you were trying to come up with a believable reason why you abandoned than brought me back in your pre arranged alibi?
