Brought instead of bought- drives me absolutely mad.

Jellybeansincognito · 03/01/2020 18:31

I’m not perfect, my spelling is tragic but at least I’m (I hope) using the correct words

LongstantonSpiceMuseum · 03/01/2020 18:34

His been really annoying at the moment.
Chester draws for sell.
Doesn't phase me.

easyandy101 · 03/01/2020 18:36

Has anyone mentioned alot

The first thing i do with a new phone is teach it the word alot Grin

Alot really should be a thing

easyandy101 · 03/01/2020 18:38

It's are choice Grin

Some people can't spell, some people can't be bothered, it's nothing i can very excited about

envelopeofpubes · 03/01/2020 18:38

Cantuccit

God yes, the loss of adverbs. Very American.

He did wonderful.
He talks so loud.
It’s terrible hot.

Awful.

AuntieStella · 03/01/2020 18:40

I blame autocorrect and predictive text for most of this.

(It does it to me all the time; I write quite nicely in RL)

Claphands · 03/01/2020 18:44

I’m bias
Am going to the shops
Ect instead of etc

They all drive me mad, can’t say I’m perfect but they are basics.

JorisBonson · 03/01/2020 18:44

A lot of people say the word "he's" instead of "his" round here and I go away and quietly seethe.

burritofan · 03/01/2020 18:45

I see it all the time on here, usually hand in hand with "seen" for "seeing".

"Seen as his been of with me picking up them bits, I text him an said..." etc (or ect, aaargh)

I don't mind a bit of crap SPAG, it's the internet, but the his/he's posts tend to verge on the incomprehensible.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 03/01/2020 18:46

I am fed up of seeing "babies" used as a possessive singular - you mean "baby's"!

Alot abit aswell - very, very grating.

No doubt we'll be accused of being mean, but I have ASD and spend quite a lot of time rewriting things in my head because of poor spelling and grammar. I genuinely find it upsetting.

Hushabyelullaby · 03/01/2020 18:56

I hate this too, and when used the other way round too, YANBU

BanjoStarz · 03/01/2020 18:59

Need without either an “s” or followed by “to be” or “ing” - most often found in sales adverts as “need gone” or “need washed”

Gives me the actual rage, I can let most other SPAG atrocities go but that one Angry

CornishMaid1 · 03/01/2020 19:08

I have always put that one down to autocorrect. I know my phone will do stupid changes if I don’t check properly.

The one I hate most is ‘of’ instead of ‘have’.

Dave Gorman did a bit on a couple of his shows about it and apparently Twitter is rife with people not knowing the original phrase. The one that sticks in my head is ‘the four horsemen of the a pack of lips’!

Whatsername177 · 03/01/2020 19:09

People who say (and write) 'are' when they mean 'our'. I hate myself for being so pedantic but it drives me potty.

Hushabyelullaby · 03/01/2020 19:12

Oops sorry for the double use of too!

Where I live people don't ever say 'those', it's always 'them' when it should be 'those', for example, I saw them ones the other day

There are so many things at the moment, and unfortunately I have seen every bloody one

I seen her on Monday instead of saw

Are you coming the shops? There should be the word 'to' in there Angry

charlestonchaplin · 03/01/2020 19:13

No-one seems to know how to use ‘bring’ and ‘take’ anymore. ‘Should I bring her to A&E?’ is only correct if you are speaking to a person who is currently in A&E. If you are asking Mumsnetters then you should be asking whether you should take your daughter to A&E.

And using ‘to’ and ‘too’ correctly is really basic English. There is something wrong when so many don’t know how to use these words correctly in a first world country with free (at the point of delivery) education. I also think it should be obvious when ‘too’ should be used as the ‘oo’ sound is longer.

x2boys · 03/01/2020 19:17

I do think some of these are auto correct ,auto correct can make even the most grammatically correct people look illiterate

Zaphodsotherhead · 03/01/2020 19:18

All of these. ALL OF THEM.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm a grammar nazi in the making.

Can I throw in 'I text him and said...' NO. You textED him. In the past tense.

Burplecutter · 03/01/2020 19:19

Brought instead of bought. You didn't bruy anything. But you might buy something.

AlexaAmbidextra · 03/01/2020 19:20

You’re doing amazing.

Seen this on here many times.

NegroniOnIce · 03/01/2020 19:22

All of these annoy me alot. Not alittle. Not just abit. Alot.

AlexaAmbidextra · 03/01/2020 19:24

No-one seems to know how to use ‘bring’ and ‘take’ anymore. ‘Should I bring her to A&E?’ is only correct if you are speaking to a person who is currently in A&E.

I think you’ll find that’s an Irish thing. I only know this from my comprehensive knowledge of Maeve Binchy novels. 😂

Ugzbugz · 03/01/2020 19:24

Drives me mad, I would never claim to be grammatically always correct but he's and his is simple 😡😡😡😡😡

Musmerian · 03/01/2020 19:24

@SucculentCandle - me too!
