Party food dinner night

Yarboosucks · 03/01/2020 15:31

Dinner tonight in the Yarboo house will be the party food that did not get served because I was distracted by drinking bubbly

I may manage to pull together a salad to go with the duck spring rolls and other assorted offerings from M&S, but other than that it is a feast of little nutritional value!

Does anyone else have this annual event?

Yes, on New Year's Day after a big walk. We enjoy it more than our Christmas Dinner sometimes!

quirkychick · 03/01/2020 15:38

Haha, I was just contemplating the duck spring rolls in my freezer! I was going to do Chinese meatball soup and thought those and the prawn wontons would go nicely. You've just decided me, op, thanks.

olympicsrock · 03/01/2020 15:39

Delicious!

cava14una · 03/01/2020 15:43

Tasty [smile}

zoobincan · 03/01/2020 15:47

We have it on Boxing Day usually. Love party food :)

CrowleysBentley · 03/01/2020 15:50

We do this every year. Was NYE this year as DS was working from home, and DD was at work so lots saved for when she got home. Sometimes I do it on Christmas eve. I do recommend the M&S christmas sausage roll wreath, I had a big chunk of that with some salad for lunch and it was bloody lovely.

mrswarthog · 03/01/2020 15:59

We had 'tapas' last night! We had stuffed mushrooms, salad, a ton of Parma ham & olives alongside the mini pork pies, M&S pigs in blankets quiche and fancy seafood lollipops.

Nearly back to normal...

Yarboosucks · 03/01/2020 16:10

I do a big dinner on NYD for the survivors of NYE... No lunch because I cook my only big breakfast of the year at about 13:00 (we party hard!)

I live in fear of running out of stuff but never do. I have frozen enough for a spontaneous wedding reception but now we must eat the rest!

DH is grinning like the Cheshire cat because this is his favorite meal of the year and we have the house to ourselves.

I love these dinners. The Aldi pork belly bites are lush and I often buy them for a picky dinner. We are having a baked cheese tonight as it’s the final thing left from the holiday period

BarbaraofSeville · 03/01/2020 16:14

I've got a prawn ring, some mushroom croquettes and some mac and cheese bites in the freezer. I'm saving them for when DP goes away in a couple of weeks' time because I am Not Sharing.

Yarboosucks · 03/01/2020 16:17

The dog is feasting on pigs in blankets instead of his normal treats.

We call it a 'picky tea' - just random offerings. Usually when lots of bits and pieces need used up.

Yarboosucks · 03/01/2020 16:19

DS has just pointed out that he put some stuff in another fridge and so it will be a quite epic feast! Have just remembered that we have some frozen cocktails in the freezer too. Party on!

DS says it is the post-feast-post-party-feast.

NYE is when I do party food, the DC love it!

hellsbellsmelons · 03/01/2020 16:25

Oh yeah.
It's usually to get the cheese and biscuits finished off with other bits as well.
Nothing wrong with it at all.
Enjoy!!!!

Spitsandspots · 03/01/2020 16:47

We had duck spring rolls and breaded chicken bites for dinner one night.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Appalling, made me feel ill all night.

Won’t stop me doing it again though Grin

One of my particular favourites is spending the week after Christmas having the cheseboard and crackers for lunch or tea ❤

Fcukthisshit · 03/01/2020 17:07

Yes! We do this several times over the Christmas period and set aside days specifically for it. I trawl all the supermarkets for ideas in the run up to Christmas then buy / make whatever makes the list ready for the allocated evenings. I love having a mix of things To pick at. We have it with a salad and some dips and finish with some kind of chocolate pudding. It’s the best Crown Grin

Babybel90 · 03/01/2020 17:10

Yes, party tea! when I was little I was allowed to eat it sat in front of the TV, a rare treat!

Aragog · 03/01/2020 17:12

17y DD made similar, minus the salad, for her lunch, mid revision, today - chicken satay skewers, brie bites, mini pigs in blankets, mozzarella sticks, etc. She reckons it has been one of her best meals all week Grin

Figgygal · 03/01/2020 17:12

We did this on Boxing Day in our PJ‘s after Christmas day with the in-laws

There was not a vegetable in sight it was lovely

Aragog · 03/01/2020 17:13

In fact I think the only lunch thats beat it for her was the one earlier in the week where she sat and ate a lot of the leftover cheese, chutney and crackers.

Yetanotherwinter · 03/01/2020 17:36

It’s my fave kind of tea, picnic tea. Enjoy.

kittykatkitty · 03/01/2020 18:01

We are doing this for tomorrow's dinner.
I have a full unopened cheese board and pate and I can't wait
