To want people to bugger off with their fireworks?

It's nowhere near midnight. What are they doing, testing them?

I'm tucked up in bed having a nice read of mumsnet and some sod keeps setting off big loud fireworks making me jump.

I just don't understand the fascination. At midnight with everyone else sure, but it's not even 10pm!

And whilst I'm having a moan, the midnight ones go on for at least half an hour.

There, I said it. Grumble over.

YANBU! Assuming there was one in there somewhere.

I live in a built up area and there are always bastard neighbours with bloody fireworks going off at all times of night at this time of year.

JayDot500 · 31/12/2019 22:07

Probably getting it out of the way and going to bed at a decent time. Buggers. Wait until midnight or cease.

HighOnStilts · 31/12/2019 22:08

Totally with you on this OP! I have a very distressed Greyhound who will not settle. I feel like some of these fireworks people are buying for home use are display standard they are so damn loud!

Snowflakesgivewishes · 31/12/2019 22:09

My poor cat is huddled up to me all confused.

I was going to get a nice early night, but I think being woken up over and over by fireworks may not work well with that one.

Isn't it illegal to light fireworks until set times? Or is it certain dates only? Not that we have the police power to even attempt to deal with petty things like that, being short staffed with all the drunken idiots tonight.

Yanbu my dog is a state. So unnecessary!

Oysterbabe · 31/12/2019 22:10

Yanbu. Since when has 31st become the same as 5th November?! Our neighbours are having a full on display.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 31/12/2019 22:11

Meh. My dog and two cats are asleep on the sofa next to me.

Iwantacookie · 31/12/2019 22:11

Yanbu. What's the need for fireworks at midnight anyway

YeOldeTrout · 31/12/2019 22:11

Neighbours let off an extremely loud firework about 1pm... 2 days ago. I was in the garden & first heard the "whoosh!" long before the * BOOM * !!
I dread what they are planning tonite.

stripeypillowcase · 31/12/2019 22:11

yanbu
where I am it sounds like a war is on, not even nice fireworks just bangs and flashes.

scarecrowhead · 31/12/2019 22:13

Yep, have to medicate my dog as he gets in such a state.

Yanbu, they've been going off here from around 7pm Angry. My dogs currently under a blanket shaking.

JellyfishandShells · 31/12/2019 22:14

It’s been going on since about 6pm here ( SW London) . Seems more than 5th November !

hammeringinmyhead · 31/12/2019 22:14

I am going to be really really pissed off if my one year old wakes up at midnight. We live in a town centre, nowhere near any of the displays. I don't think Gav down the road should be launching rockets off his drive.

Hoolahlah66 · 31/12/2019 22:15

Nest door neighbours have just set them off. No warning. No polite knock on the door earlier today..we have a 4 month old baby. Dog is also under the duvet...

HighOnStilts · 31/12/2019 22:16

Have to laugh though, I live East Yorkshire and it's currently foggy as hell so you can't even see the damn fireworks when they explode 😆

SerenDippitty · 31/12/2019 22:16

YANBU it’s ridiculous.

FestiveBake · 31/12/2019 22:16

Yanbu. Hate fireworks unless organised displays. Should be illegal.

LigPatin · 31/12/2019 22:17

Same here. Desperately trying to distract our 12 year old rescue dog, as I'm worried the stress may cause her to have a heart attack Sad

Hearthside · 31/12/2019 22:18

None here yet but one of our cats has snuck out past DH when me and DC went shopping. Been shouting him as i really want him back in but no sign him.He goes off in the fields behind us but you can guarantee someone will be setting off fireworks. I hate home fireworks.

Lalalalalalalalaland · 31/12/2019 22:21

I hear you, we have ponies, dogs and an autistic child, all of whom are senstive to fireworks and loud bangs

Poor DD nearmt got thrown off when some idiots wwere shootimg near the farm on monday (normally only shooting on a tuesday so thought we were safe)

On alert until at least 1am when they calm down

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 31/12/2019 22:24

It's almost as if it's a huge surprise.

Adenosine · 31/12/2019 22:26

Yeah I just don't get these people doing stuff that doesn't take account my cat/dog/baby/fig tree given that I've chosen to live in close proximity to others whose priorities may differ from mine. And yes I can absolutely whinge pre emptively about possible disturbance because it might happen and then where would we be? Eh?

grafittiartist · 31/12/2019 22:33

Hionstilts- we are in EY too- and had some in the garden. Could hardly see them, but it was atmospheric!
