To want people to bugger off with their fireworks?

It's nowhere near midnight. What are they doing, testing them?

I'm tucked up in bed having a nice read of mumsnet and some sod keeps setting off big loud fireworks making me jump.

I just don't understand the fascination. At midnight with everyone else sure, but it's not even 10pm!

And whilst I'm having a moan, the midnight ones go on for at least half an hour.

There, I said it. Grumble over.

Adenosine i personally wouldn't take pleasure in scaring the absolute shit out of an autistic child or someone family pet just because i wanted to see some pretty lights and bangs .I have nothing against organised displays .A few miles from us a house roof was set on fire by someone with fireworks in their garden .I just don't see the need .So i think people have every right to have their "whinge " Hmm.

claret3189 · 31/12/2019 22:35

Yes its awful we have thw same issue and that's before midnight

BerwickLad · 31/12/2019 22:38

I'm with you. I don't know why people can't just look at sustainably sourced crochet representations of fireworks while contemplating Thunberg, dog friendly spaces and non specific pronouns.

Lalalalalalalalaland · 31/12/2019 22:42

There is plenty of silent fireworks on sale.

I dont mind organised displays that give notice, But u don't think joe public should be allowed to set off explosives in their garden on a whim.

Most people in local village know they live local to stables but don't think to give pre-warning they are setting off fireworks, the stables were there before they moved in. If you want to live in the countru give thought to wildlife and animals living close vy who may be upset with them.

Ok the people living near us don't know my autistic kid is scared of fireworks but they damn well know their is loads of dogs in close.proximity so at least post on the local page so we are prewarned!

BerwickLad · 31/12/2019 22:45

Yes. If only there was some way of being pre warned that it was NYE. You'd think that people would have invented calendars or something by now.

LakieLady · 31/12/2019 22:47

Fireworks are a huge thing in my part of Sussex. There were a few earlier in the evening, but it's been remarkably quiet.

But just as I was typing that, a bang went off somewhere fairly near.

DDog is old and deaf now, and doesn't notice them at all.

Lalalalalalalalaland · 31/12/2019 22:49

We are well in anticipation of fireworks, knowing its new years eve.

But surely the people.on the same road as the stables could have sent a quick text to make people aware? She has the yard owners number.

BerwickLad · 31/12/2019 22:53

Why are people with stables unable to determine what the date is? Are they deafened by the sound of stamping hooves? Sent into a time portal when they sit on saddles? So many questions ...

Hoolahlah66 · 31/12/2019 22:57

So it’s mandatory to host your own shitty fireworks display because it’s NYE? Wish I’d known as I would have fired my rifle in my back garden, to signify the Boxing Day hunt.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 31/12/2019 22:59

Bloody hate them on NYE . They go on forever. I want to go to sleep but know theresno point Sad

BerwickLad · 31/12/2019 23:00

You got the shining, boy.

CooCooCoo · 31/12/2019 23:00

Isn't it illegal to light fireworks until set times? Or is it certain dates only?

It’s up to 1am for New Years Eve

YANBU

Just managed to get my kid with ASD finally settled.

I mean everyone knows it affects people in the community and pets badly, but they still do it, and I think that says a lot about people who still buy fireworks these days.

Lunafortheloveogod · 31/12/2019 23:09

Ds’s head touched the cot mattress and some bastard set off Armageddon outside.. I waited ages till I was sure all the pre midnight folk had quit n gone in.

Most annoying part is two hotels, within 2 or 3 miles so you can see both without leaving the house, do beautiful displays.. at midnight and as they’re further from residential areas you barely hear a peep. So really if the diy’ers would just look to the left for 5 they’d see the flashy lights.

JustOneMoreStep · 31/12/2019 23:14

Just for some balance, my severely mentally handicapped, autistic, brother absolutely adores fireworks.....Nov. 5th and NYE are literally the highlight of his year but due to his autism he finds organised displays too stressful, so banning home fireworks would be denying him something he enjoys in a world that is vastly inaccessible to him. And before anyone suggests that his needs don't outweigh the needs of others who dislike them for whatever reason, you are absolutely right I agree they don't, but in life we all have to put up with things that we don't like/cause distress for short periods of time so a couple of days a year I.e. NYE and Nov. 5th doesnt seem so unreasonable to me

Engard · 31/12/2019 23:20

They oughta be illegal! Public, licensed displays only that last an hour. There'd be fewer accidents and less stress on emergency services, elderly, ptsd sufferers, animals, autistic etc etc etc

They are non sensical! It's basically burning money!

tisonlymeagain · 31/12/2019 23:24

It's something I just can't get myself worked up about. It's hardly constant and I while I rarely let them off myself, I don't begrudge others having fun.

Someone on a local FB group started have a pre-emptive whinge about it earlier today which did make me roll my eyes, reminding people to be considerate and that there are dogs in the neighbourhood that are scared of fireworks. I did want to remind him that there are people in the neighbourhood that are scared of dogs and perhaps they could be more considerate when they let them off the lead in the park around my children.

BerwickLad · 31/12/2019 23:39

Yeah dog owners are a pita all year round. I wish the hassle they caused was confined to a few nights a year.

stripeypillowcase · 31/12/2019 23:42

I wish it were home displays here.
most here are just making an awful noise and leave lots of smoke behind.
happy new year!

Fr0g · 31/12/2019 23:42

had a few at about 8pm, nothing since

I'vr stayed home bacause my cat gets scared - I thought she was being quiet, then realised that I'd managed to shut her outside in the lobby, probably at about 6.30.
It's a lobby that's completely internal - just to 3 flats within a block of 24, so more shut off from external noise than my flat which has huge windows, but she was so pleased to come back in and cuddle when I realised.

Newmetoday · 31/12/2019 23:44

It’s New Year’s Eve. Surely expected?

BerwickLad · 31/12/2019 23:45

Apparently not, if you have horses. Not sure why.

Lalalalalalalalaland · 31/12/2019 23:51

Because as much as you expect it watching an animal that weighs half a ton lose its mind and injure itself and be in pain so someone can watch pretty explosives for 30 seconds is senseless.

There is silent fireworks available, or someone could have taken 5 seconds to text the yard manger so we could have sedatives at hand ready?
