What is it about monopoly..

That makes people pissy and bitchy!!

We can never play a game without someone getting annoyed.

I swear the creator knew what they were doing, when they created this game

Yep, the problem is everyone thinks they know how to play monopoly but nobody has ever read the rules.

@JamieVardysHavingAParty l remember that rule from when l was a kid! I think it's been around so long everyone has their own way of playing it and think they are right.

Well my DD has the LOL Dolls version of it. My DD does not take losing well. She is brutal.

We bought it this year and for the first time in.my life, I actually know the rules. Kids have picked it up pretty quick and Dd (8) is brutal. Although she cries the whole time she's not winning/has to sell stuff backGrin

I love a good board game, but Monopoly isn’t one. I swear it’s the game they make you play in purgatory.

DD recently did her Invention badge in brownies and read up on Elizabeth Magie - inventor of Monopoly. Apparently Magie created two sets of rules - the Monopoly rules that we are familiar with, and the Prosperity rules, where all players receive a little income from the sale of a property so that wealth circulates more freely and doesn't all end up in one Landlord's pocket.
It was supposed to educate people about Economics, but the games company that bought the rights decimated her idea and dispensed with the prosperity rules altogether...and made a fortune from sales of the modified game (fittingly enough).
So we're left with the brutal, exploitative capitalist model that is designed to piss everyone off.

I don’t think I’ve ever played it and got to the end. Someone always strops off and we give up. In fact is there even an ending to it?

So we bought a monopoly card game and it is MUCH X1000000000 easier, quicker and less fraught.

We had a game of scrabble earlier. Husband was passively aggressively sniffing and twitching about 20 mins in when it became apparent that I was winning. 🤣🤣

We were never allowed to play it as children as my DM has such bad memories of her DF and DB playing when she was young!

I bought Monopoly The cheaters edition for my son as we play it every year and he gets annoyed about being sent to jail. It was good fun but has still ended up with one of the kids (DD) having a strop off to her room 😂

Board games bring out the competitive worst in people. My usually easy-going DBrother is currently furious with me for giving hints to my DNiece during family trivial pursuit. He is 45, she is 9! and up far beyond her bed time

Sorry hit post by mistake. .. so he could buy mayfair but i didnt care i just wanted it over. I even didn't collect my 200 pound a couple of times so had less money when i had to pay up when landed on hotel on mayfair and was bankrupt!!
