To think we shouldn’t have had to pay?

Took DH, 2 DC and BIL out for lunch today. After ordering, it took 10 minutes for the drinks to come (not too long considering, but they were literally cans that we could see from the table). We then had to wait another hour and a half for food! There were 2 cooked meals and 3 sandwiches. The cooked meals were burned and the bread was stale, basically inedible. We are a bit but couldn’t manage much. We were then told that it was cash only, even though it hadn’t been clearly advertised (argument was that it was on the door, which was open so we couldn’t see the sign). It was around £60 for the 5 of us, so I couldn’t afford it with cash. We walked out without paying and they threatened to call the police. Haven’t heard anything yet. AIBU to have refused to pay? And will they be able to do anything when they don’t have names or anything?

Don’t forget to check the daily fail tomorrow. You will be nation wide popular.

PanamaPattie · 31/12/2019 22:59

The police may ask your local police to have a word with you.

cabbageking · 31/12/2019 23:00

It is theft if you didn't complain and a civil matter if you did raise a complaint with the manager. You should have complained and negotiated a discount.

Will they have enough to ID anyone in the party? No idea

ScreamedAtTheMichelangelo · 31/12/2019 23:01

What would you say if one of your teens did this, OP?

Mollychristmas · 31/12/2019 23:01

Wow you’re trashy!

I felt a little sorry for you to begin with, I mean you were CF’ers but the food was shit and it’s a nightmare when you realise too late that places don’t take cards but your update is gross.

CentralPerkMug · 31/12/2019 23:01

Very surprised to see that a third of voters agree it is reasonable to steal!

bettybattenburg · 31/12/2019 23:02

If they leave having spoken to the manager about the wait and the poor quality food, no way would that be taken from the waitress's wages.

You have got no way of knowing that.

Inliverpool1 · 31/12/2019 23:04

It’s not illegal to refuse to pay for food in a restaurant and it’s certainly not theft it’s a civil matter. You should have left contact details though

Inliverpool1 · 31/12/2019 23:05

if someone from one her tables walks out without paying it is taken from her already shit wages.

Now that’s illegal

Ginger1982 · 31/12/2019 23:05

"Not too worried by what people are saying about local papers etc as we’re not local anyway. After giving it some thought, I doubt police are going to drive over 100 miles just to argue this."

Well aren't you pleased with yourself? 🙄

Nanny0gg · 31/12/2019 23:09

You should have sent the food back.

You didn't so you should have sent one person to get some money and paid.

You're a thief.

(Not that you're bothered)

sanityisamyth · 31/12/2019 23:10

What would you have done if this was a petrol station? You'd filled up your car with £60 worth of fuel and then found out their card machine was broken. Would you have just left without paying? I'm presuming not! Why do you feel that you can do the same to a restaurant?

doritosdip · 31/12/2019 23:12

Massive CF

5 drinks don't cost a fiver

Did you complain about the state of the food and how long it took? Did you complain to a manager if waiter/waitress were unable to help? In my experience most businesses are reasonable if you complain in a reasonable manner.

MunchMunch · 31/12/2019 23:18

You'll probably find out you've become Facebook famous and you'll be absolutely mortified!

I see stuff like this shared on my Facebook all the time complete with cctv pictures and full descriptions Crown Blush

I would have left bil with the kids at the pub and went and found a cash machine

KarmaStar · 31/12/2019 23:27

OP you clearly don't care the majority see you as bu,so why ask?
You definitely were bu,I just hope it's not taken from the staff wages or tip box.
Shame on you.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/12/2019 23:34

You waited an hour and a half for food?

I would have left long before that - it's a ridiculous length of time.

iklboo · 31/12/2019 23:40

If they didn't take cards how would you have paid for the food if you'd actually enjoyed it?

Jaxhog · 31/12/2019 23:45

Wow! If you find yourself unable to pay, you leave your name and address or you go and find a cash machine. I understand that the wait was too long (why did you stay?) and the food was not good, but you don't walk out without paying! You are fortunate that they didn't detain you while they called the police.

All I can say is - Karma.

Sparkle567 · 01/01/2020 00:13

You ate some of it. You haven’t even said if you asked for it to be redone? Which I doubt very much if I’m honest

With an hour and a half wait The first time are you realistically expecting someone to ask there food to be redone?

With the wait being so long and the food inedible, what solution are you offering? Because I wouldn’t pay for shit food.

I can guarantee the Police did go round to the thief’s house in our case and they did give my boss the opportunity to take things further had she wanted to.

cabbageking · 01/01/2020 00:24

It is illegal to make off without payment.

AJPTaylor · 01/01/2020 00:42

Why would you wait an hour and a half for cafe food? It makes no sense.
