To ask how much you spend on a kids birthday present?

I have two kids 6 and 9 and they're always going to birthday parties (their social lives are far superior to mine). Most weekends there's at least one if not two parties between them and frankly the presents mount up. I bulk buy 3 for 2 type things where possible and end up spending about £13 per kid. Is that really tight?

£5-£10 is plenty

ButtonandPickle19 · 31/12/2019 20:15

Agree... under £10 per party

Namechanger23455 · 31/12/2019 20:16

Someone he vaguely knows from his class I go for under a fiver, normally something from the works. A book, game etc.
Is best friends, there are 3/4 i go for around the tenner mark and something they would actually want,’ie Lego super Heroes etc

gamerwidow · 31/12/2019 20:16

Up to £10 for normal classmates and up to £20 for best friends.

MontyBowJangles · 31/12/2019 20:16

£5 - £10 depending on how well I know them/how long I've known them for (kids are same age as yours).

formerbabe · 31/12/2019 20:17

5-10 is fine

gamerwidow · 31/12/2019 20:17

It depends on your budget though. I wouldn’t want someone to feel they had to spend more than they had on DDs present.

Passthecake30 · 31/12/2019 20:17

about £7 for a present, or £10 in a card

Arthritica · 31/12/2019 20:19

At primary school parties a book cost is a good guideline. So it used to be £4.99 when my eldest was small but currently more like £8.99 up.

AndAnon · 31/12/2019 20:19

About £10. It gets expensive but I feel less looks mean as most of the other parents spend about £10 or more. I know some of the things my DD got were £20 plus.

minesadecaf · 31/12/2019 20:21

That's it @AndAnon so many presents my dds get have been upwards of 20. She was given a £30 smiggle voucher from a friend last time!! For context, they're at an independent school where for lots of the parents expensive gifts are the norm but not for us!

£30 from a friend?! That's our budget for our nieces and nephews!!

doritosdip · 31/12/2019 23:04

Depends how friendly they are. £5 if they are not close and £10-£15 for a really good friend here.

Elizadoeslittle19 · 01/01/2020 00:42

£10 max including card, but if I can get something cheaper all the better. We go to loads of parties !! Aghhhh. I buy rolls of wrapping paper to save money.

UndertheCedartree · 01/01/2020 00:51

I spend about £5 per child as I'm broke and we also have a lot of parties. Based on the presents my DD got on her birthday I would say most of her friends' parents generously spent £10 - £15 on a present but her school is in a wealthy area. What you are spending is not tight at all.

managedmis · 01/01/2020 00:53

I spend about £15 per party. Sometimes buy the parents a bottle of wine too.

managedmis · 01/01/2020 00:53

P. S. I don't bother with a card. That's 2 quid saved there

2020BetterBeBetter · 01/01/2020 00:55

Around £10 but no more than £15, and that would be for a good friend. I bulk buy birthday cards online so they hardly cost anything.

Sweetpeach3 · 01/01/2020 01:10

10 and under but if it's their best friend I spend 15-20 on them xx

Glitteryone · 01/01/2020 03:11

Class friends £10-15

Best friends £20-30

LauraPalmersBodybag · 01/01/2020 03:36

I bulk buy cards that are 3 for £1 from Tiger, and a book from Waterstones that costs between £5-7, though the cheaper the better. I include a gift receipt just in case.

Ishotmrburns · 01/01/2020 03:41

Not tight at all. I think that's loads. I either give something that i made or buy a book for about £5.

snowball28 · 01/01/2020 04:08

Those art kits from the works are good, 2 for £10 I just gift one of those and a card. So less that £6

KC225 · 01/01/2020 04:24

Children's annuals for 2020 are cheap at the moment on Amazon 99p. Frozen, Match of the Day, ROBLOX, Star Wars, Disney Princess. DR Who. I know there is a minimum spend but stock up. Have a present drawer that you can top up in the sales. An annual plus a box of maltesers (poundland) is a great kids gift for £2.00.

littlemisssugarpuffs · 01/01/2020 04:28

I normally bulk buy the 20 cards for £1 from the works or 10 for £1 from car factory and pop £5-£10 in,
