To eat this?

Bottle of sweetcorn relish. Supposed to be eaten within 4 weeks of opening, but I opened it in....August Confused. Do you think it will be ok?

Generally I would never exceed the use by date of fresh stuff, but with preserved/tinned/packets of stuff I’m much more relaxed, and will happily eat stuff months out of date. But... this will have been open 4 months more than recommended!

Has been refrigerated. Eat it or not?

Knew I should have bought some more the other day!

Nope!

Newbie1999 · 31/12/2019 18:34

As in... nope, don’t eat it.

Daisydoola · 31/12/2019 18:34

It'll be okay

sockittome123 · 31/12/2019 18:34

It's a no from me

dementedpixie · 31/12/2019 18:35

If its not got any fuzzy bits on it it will be fine, especially if it was in the fridge

JewelTheft · 31/12/2019 18:35

As it's been in the fridge, I would eat it

JayAlfredPrufrock · 31/12/2019 18:36

It’ll be fine.

Dizzywizz · 31/12/2019 18:37

Yes I would, as long as it looks ok

NoParticularPattern · 31/12/2019 18:37

I would eat it unless it looked totally off or es furry or something. Although YABU for eating sweet corn relish in the first place Envy (not envy)

IHaveBrilloHair · 31/12/2019 18:37

Absolutely fine.

PrettyShiningPeople · 31/12/2019 18:37

Oh my, it’s 50/50... what do I doooooGrin

OP posts:
Oysterbabe · 31/12/2019 18:38

If there's no mould I'd probably eat it.

dementedpixie · 31/12/2019 18:38

The vinegar will keep it from going off. I'm sure tomato ketchup says similar things but half the time ours isn't even in the fridge

Namethecat · 31/12/2019 18:39

Try it !
Ok = eat
Off = chuck
Easy as Grin

PrettyShiningPeople · 31/12/2019 18:40

Aww, what’s wrong with a bit of relish on a burger!
I’ve already got lettuce, tomato, gherkins, onions, beetroot, cheese, pineapple....

...actually now I’ve listed all that I could probably go without the relish 😂

Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 31/12/2019 18:40

I'd eat it. I'm don't even look at dates on things like that of theyre in the fridge

Dipsydoodle · 31/12/2019 18:41

If it looks OK and smells OK (I mean it won't even if it's fine because it's sweetcorn relish) then go for it. We have loads of 'consume within X time' stuff in our fridge. And it's definitely past X time.

BaronessBomburst · 31/12/2019 18:41

It's really easy to tell if sweetcorn is off. It ferments and smells funny. Try a bit, if it seems okay then eat it.

Spied · 31/12/2019 18:41

Not worth the risk.

formerbabe · 31/12/2019 18:42

I'm quite easy going but I wouldn't eat it.

GrandTheftWalrus · 31/12/2019 18:43

Pineapple on a burger?

ItsNovemberNotChristmas · 31/12/2019 18:44

I've never put ketchup in the fridge and it's never gone off

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2019 18:44

Even I would draw the line at that.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 31/12/2019 18:46

Burger relish keeps ages in the fridge. I have the opposite of a cast-iron stomach and I regularly eat months old burger relish.

Fr0g · 31/12/2019 18:48

test it first - look/smell/taste before you put it on food.

Is it for you, or children? You probably have a more robust immune system than a young child.
