To be annoyed he doesn't know my phone number by heart

Been together 6 years and we have two children (one dd and dss who lives with us full time).

It's really pissing me off that he doesn't know my mobile number, he doesn't even have it written down on anything in his wallet. What if something happened and he needed to call me but didn't have his phone?? He says that will never happen and he's never needed it before.

AIBU here???

DH and I don’t know each other’s mobile numbers!

I’ve had the same mobile number for 20+ years and only finally learned it about 10 years ago!

However, I do know his home number from when we were dating over 30 years ago and I know my grandmothers number... she died 30 years ago!

FrowningFlamingo · 30/12/2019 22:05

I don’t know my husband’s. I know my mum and dad’s and a few others I memorised as a child. All of whom have his number if I got really stuck.
I also know his email and he gets push notifications so I could use that too I guess!

lisag1969 · 30/12/2019 22:06

For God sake get a grip. Most people only know their own number and some not even that.
I adore my children more than anything in the world but I still can't even remember the whole of their number. X

BlaueLagune · 30/12/2019 22:06

Yes OP people should know basic numbers off by heart.

I was stunned a few years ago when I worked in a library attached to a school and realised a lot of the kids didn't know their home numbers and couldn't contact home if they had forgotten their mobiles or the battery had run out.

I suppose these days people don't necessarily have landlines but I made sure my then 9 year old knew our home number off by heart. He also knows my mobile off by heart and a week or so ago when he went out for the day I wrote down his dad's work and mobile numbers too in case he lost his phone and had to use a friend's.

When I was a kid we knew everyone's numbers so I am sure people can learn 2 or 3 these days - or at least have them written down.

Angie6868 · 30/12/2019 22:06

Surely your number is in his phone so he can contact you if he needs to. I know 90% of the numbers in my phone, but numbers just stick in my head. I don't try to learn them.. some people's minds just don't work like that. My DH doesn't know his or mine. He doesn't even know our landline number. It doesn't bother me in the slightest.

SemperIdem · 30/12/2019 22:07

I think yabu - it’s not 1999.

Walnutwhipster · 30/12/2019 22:08

I've had the same mobile number since 1996, not a chance DH knows it and I don't have his memorised either. Weird thing to be upset about and I have a life threatening condition.

Rachie1973 · 30/12/2019 22:08

The only number he really needs to memorise is 999

greggers2017 · 30/12/2019 22:11

I remember the number from Going live when I was little with Philip Schofield and Gordon the gopher.
I also remember the coldseal windows number but that's about it 😂

Cillmantain · 30/12/2019 22:16

If this is all you have to get annoyed about you are very lucky

SirGawain · 30/12/2019 22:18

After six years I've only just learned to remember my own number, let alone Lady Gawain's.

abitoflight · 30/12/2019 22:18

I know DH's - from early days of mobiles when the idea of a phone book on a phone was difficult
No idea of children's numbers - same number for DD1 for 10 years

Saddler · 30/12/2019 22:19

😂😂😂

Seeline · 30/12/2019 22:19

Genuinely interested - what would you all do if your phone was stolen/broken etc and you needed to contact your partner in an absolute emergency?

I do know my DHs no, although he often doesn't have it switched on, we still have a landline, and I know my mum's, MILs landlines all off by heart. I even know the Dr's!

Soawesome · 30/12/2019 22:21

I know mine and dh's but feel guilty I don't know either of my children's. I am to have lost the ability to learn new telephone numbers though I can still remember my grandmother's from 30 years ago!

HomerDancing · 30/12/2019 22:22

You sound like very hard work.

motherheroic · 30/12/2019 22:23

I'm surprised that so many people don't know their partners number. My phone password is numerical and quite long, if I were in an accident no one would be able to get into my phone. But I guess if you know your parents that's the next best thing.

SanFrancisco49er · 30/12/2019 22:31

What do you think the likelihood is of him being in an accident, on his own, that puts his phone out of use but leaves him able to remember your number and still have a means to call you?
If he couldn't get signal then remembering your number wont help as anyone he is with won't have it either.
What a pickle.

SteelRiver · 30/12/2019 22:34

YABU. VVU.

Usingmyindoorvoice · 30/12/2019 22:35

I’m rather aghast at posters that don’t even know their own number, let alone next of kin.

Strongerin2020 · 30/12/2019 22:36

I don't know my DPs number.
Or my sons.
Or mine.

Never needed to

JellyfishandShells · 30/12/2019 22:37

My DH’s number end with a 3. I think. Maybe.

Likethebattle · 30/12/2019 22:39

Been with DH 12.5 years and his number has been the same all that time. No idea what it is:..,I don’t even know our landline and the only person who ever uses it is MIL.

PortiaCastis · 30/12/2019 22:40

This is hilarious as I've just got engaged and couldn't recite his phone number for love nor money as he's down on my phone as 1 and I have no idea if he knows my number don't know don't care

adaline · 30/12/2019 22:40

Genuinely interested - what would you all do if your phone was stolen/broken etc and you needed to contact your partner in an absolute emergency?

Ring my mum and get her to contact him.
Borrow a phone and put a message out on Facebook.
Go home and see him there.
Go to my in-laws and get them to call him.

All sorts, really. I can't think of a situation where I couldn't do any of the above.
