When your DC’s friends come over, do you let them connect to your home WiFi?

DC’s are 12.

Yes.

Scarsthelot · 30/12/2019 17:59

Yes

Newmetoday · 30/12/2019 18:00

Of course and anyone who wouldn’t is weird

MakeItRain · 30/12/2019 18:02

Yes

Spitsandspots · 30/12/2019 18:02

Yes.

TheBigFatMermaid · 30/12/2019 18:02

Yes, any guest in my home can use all of the facilities, so toilet, TV, furniture, wi-fi...

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/12/2019 18:02

Why wouldn't you?Confused

Sparklesocks · 30/12/2019 18:04

Yes I let all guests connect to it.

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/12/2019 18:05

Yep, anyone in my house can have it.

stickerqueen · 30/12/2019 18:06

we let my nieces and nephews connect but hubby will put the password in for them. Even dd don't know the password. Don't want anyone messing with the router settings so no need for them to know the password.

TheSpottedZebra · 30/12/2019 18:07

I'm being thick, but what are the advantages of a guest network ?

doritosdip · 30/12/2019 18:08

My router password is different to the wifi password. Bit worrying if both yours are the same.

Guests are free to have the Wifi password and people who have invited my kids have offered their one.

GetUpAgain · 30/12/2019 18:09

Yes of course, any guest is welcome to it.

doritosdip · 30/12/2019 18:10

Guest network means that they are able to use it for 24hours or whatever. They aren't connected to the main network so don't have your password saved indefinitely

APatchyTomCat · 30/12/2019 18:11

Yes.

Nonnymum · 30/12/2019 18:11

Yes I would. It doesn't cost and it saves their data

sunshineandshowers21 · 30/12/2019 18:13

of course. any one who comes to our house is welcome to use it. we had some stickers that came with the box with the wifi code, so there’s one stuck to the fridge, and one stuck on the memo board in my son’s bedroom for his friends to see.

Nonnymum · 30/12/2019 18:16

Why would it matter as they could only use it at your house anyway. My adult children and their partners have our WiFi password saved so when they are here they automatically connect to it. As I do when I'm at their house.

Nonnymum · 30/12/2019 18:18

Isn't the router setting seperate from the WiFi setting? I know ours is.

ffswhatnext · 30/12/2019 18:20

Yes, my router or extender allows for multiple accounts and passwords.

betternamechangeforthisone · 30/12/2019 18:22

Guest network sounds so pretentious Blush

MadameLeFunky · 30/12/2019 18:23

It allows you to have different rules set up. Things like...

  • parental restrictions on the guest network but not on your main network
  • quality of service settings that allow you to prioritise traffic on your main network (or on your guest), or have different priorities for different types of traffic on each network, such as priority for tv streaming on your main network
  • password rules, such as expiring after x hours/days and/or allwos you to change your password frequently on the guest network but leave it staic on the main one so you don't have to keep inputting the new password on tvs etc.

All depending on the level of settings your router suports.

Doggodogington · 30/12/2019 18:23

Yes, and it’s saved so they don’t have to ask when they come again. Whenever a new friend comes round my DD trots downstairs within minutes and hands me a phone like an offering Grin

Llareggub · 30/12/2019 18:26

Yes of course. Although I can’t imagine anyone would ask, they would just take a look at the sticker on the router. It’s like loo paper, why would you not share it?

Cohle · 30/12/2019 18:27

What's your possible objection OP?
