Aibu to think Madonna’s 19 year old son shouldn’t be part of custody issues ?

Is there something I am missing, why has this story come up again. Rocco is 19 years old why is he subject to a custody order when he is a grown adult ? That wouldn’t be a thing for anyone else’s 19 year old so am I missing something

There’s a battle over youngest son David. Ritchie says Rocco Doesn’t have to go to Maldives if he doesn’t want to. Two separate things

Holiday in the Maldives, why wouldn't he want to go? She's taking her boyfriend as well so that will give him sometime around his own age to talk to.

I assumed it was over David as he is 14 but there has been more than one article has referenced it being over Rocco.

Happy to be corrected but no one actually knows. They know a motion has been filed but no more than that. I guess it is supposition due to the previous court fight over Rocco.

There is a parental disagreement over where the adult son goes for NY. Mom is trying to dictate what happens, Dad has said the adult son can make his own choice. Not exactly a novel argument over teens with divorced parents.

Incidentally there is also a custody battle over David.

Well according to the Sun anyway.

Madonna seems not to understand that in the uk teenage children can pretty much decide for themselves which parent they live with.

She's very controlling.

It seems so strange and I know it’s a non story but so is loads of things and I wondered if I was missing something or if it’s a weird American loophole I wasn’t seeing.

At 19 some adult men (because Rocco is a adult man) are married with their own children but here it is for the third time in the news he is still under custody arrangements. It’s so strange

David being under court action understandable and if they want to argue about custody they can be like every other divorced couple arguing over child custody issues but when it involves an adult it’s just odd.

Perhaps a tangential discussion, but just because a "man" is deemed in law to be adult and capable of fathering a child at 19, doesn't make them either suitable for, nor emotionally competent to take that on responsibility.

Most males are utterly incompetent at fatherhood before they reach late 20s / mid 30s, especially judging by the feckless specimens described ad nauseam by MNers on here!

It's interesting how different the Sun's report is compared to other papers.

The situation with Rocco was sorted out legally in 2016. It's now about David. Things have changed because Madonna has had to cut her tour, because of injuries.

She needs to be in the UK for this to happen. It also allows for the Siblings to see each other.

The reason Madonna originally tried to get Rocco back to the US when he was 16, because he'd ran away from school because his drug taking had been discovered.

Guy Richie was always more laid back and even let him smoke underage.

Her children never have to work and she's seen first hand how wealth and fame can destroy a person. It isn't that unusual for a Mother to think they are best placed to protect their children. He was then still a minor.

Madonna is another woman confident in her choices and who isn't a victim, she's always been in charge of her sex life. So of course they hate her.

Agree with @Ponoka7. Not sure why everyone seems to hate Madonna, a very successful female. She even got up and carried on after falling during her performance (which was no fault of her own) and people still took the piss. A lot of performers would've just left the stage.

Apparently Guy has limited rules so allows smoking and slacking off and Madonna expects her son to work for things.

I think she’s trying to be a good mum. She’s seen what happens to aimless rich kids in places like L.A. and wants better for her own kids. Notice how the older girl, Lourdes, keeps her head down and we don’t see her all over Instagram ‘modelling’? Guy wants to be the cool dad. It’s not in the kids interests to smoking with their dad.

I'll let my husband know, along with the partners/husbands of many of my friends, that you believe most of them are incompetent to be parents due to having children in their early to mid 20s Hmm.

In the crazy world where your mother is Madonna and your father is a film director, a little stringent parental control is probably a very good thing.
