Not an AIBU, posting for traffic. What warm coat do you really rate and where is it from?

I'd like something I could wear with work clothes etc.

I really like my Seasal coat. It's lightweight but warm and waterproof and I wear it all through winter in all weathers.

Healthy2020 · 29/12/2019 20:19

You need to look for the wool content. The more wool, the warmer it'll be.

CrazyOldBagLady · 29/12/2019 20:19

Meant to add its my 3rd winter wearing it and it still looks like new.

gothefcktosleep · 29/12/2019 20:19

I love my Wallis military coat.

ivykaty44 · 29/12/2019 20:21

TKmax and got a lightweight but extremely warm coat to the knee. It was for NYC trip and then walking to work

JoJoSM2 · 29/12/2019 20:21

I’d try some Scandinavian brands that use quality materials, eg COS or Arket.

Another vote for Seasalt. Have a look in their sale.

SuckingDieselFella · 29/12/2019 20:24

M&S premium padded coat (they're between £99 -£149). Goes in the washing machine too.

Peachyk · 29/12/2019 20:26

Yup, another vote for seasalt. Love that it's waterproof but not sweaty. Mine has an inner layer that can be removed when it's warmer... though I haven't felt the need for the lining yet, usually goes in end of jan!

DD just had a lovely Rab down parka from Go Outdoors. She's currently in Paris and tells me it's very warm.

I have a North Face parka I bought from an outlet and though I winced at the £150 price tag I live in that coat and it's so so warm.

houseofrabbits · 29/12/2019 20:35

I've got a Rab synthetic (not down) coat and it's fantastic. I don't think I'd buy any other brand for a warm coat now!

NameChangeNugget · 29/12/2019 20:37

North Face are very good

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 29/12/2019 20:40

I bought mine from Asda...sub-George brand called something like Ozrak Trail.

Very similar to my sister’s North Face coat for £45

SistersOfPercy · 29/12/2019 20:57

Very similar to my sister’s North Face coat for £45

They may look alike, but there is a world of difference between down fill and polyester.
If you just want the look then brilliant, but if you want warmth then down is the way to go really.

MissSmiley · 29/12/2019 22:03

Aigle Black Cuckmere/Cuckmerry Down and Feather Coat warmest coat ever, you can get them second hand on eBay for £100

ivykaty44 · 29/12/2019 22:06

Mine is down and although over £100 it was still cheaper to buy last season down coat than a full length decent synthetic

What sort of style do you want op?

Thelnebriati · 29/12/2019 22:08

Dry clean only or machine washable? Do you want one with a hood, a concealed hood, or no hood?
For warmth I rate down.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 29/12/2019 22:11

@sisersofpercy - I ve in Aberdeen and playground supervise at lunchtime.

It’s warm and waterproof.

I’m not going to pay 4 rime amount for the same amount of warm and waterproof. Any more warm would be sticky sweaty

Chemenger · 29/12/2019 22:13

M&S long padded coat got me through a Boston winter last year.

Fink · 29/12/2019 22:15

I have a Lands' End ankle length down-filled coat which I bought online. It is the warmest thing ever, it's properly like wearing a duvet from head to foot. And machine washable. I would wear it for ordinary work days, but if I want to smarten it up for meetings then I'd wear my Wallis wool coat. It's nowhere near as toasty warm, but good enough for most days in London. It's not waterproof, obviously, and dry clean only, so not as practical for everyday.

peachypetite · 29/12/2019 22:18

Have a look on asos for wool coat. Will be much warmer.

animaginativeusername · 29/12/2019 22:35

I have the seasalt 'janelle' coat, lovely and warm, but so light

SinkGirl · 29/12/2019 22:38

Uniqlo have some of their down coats in the sale at the moment

My warmest coat is a 3 in one from Joules a great removable fleece inner and waterproof outer. Probably wouldn’t be enough in a freezing climate but more than warm enough here in the south of England!

Celticdawn5 · 29/12/2019 22:41

Try Toast.
Expensive though.
Lands End do some good quality and practical coats

SabineUndine · 29/12/2019 22:43

I got a beauty in Hobbs. Not cheap (I got it on offer) but it's about the only 100% wool coat in my size that I could find.
