To think this is unreasonable and this judge knowingly scentenced this man to death

Just read a heartbreaking story in the paper about an 87 year old man, who given a 27 month prison sentence after he killed someone in a car accident. The judge was warned at the time by the man's doctors that this was highly likely to lead to his death; but went ahead and did it anyway. As predicted, he died nine days later. This was not murder, this was not malicious; it was a complete, tragic accident.

By all means ban him from driving if he was a danger, look at tightening the driving regulations around older drivers.

But our obsession with "making people pay," for genuine accidents has led to this utter tragedy .

The poor man must have been terrified. I really think this particular judge/ case needs urgent investigation; and we need a wider look at whether prison is always an appropriate response to car accident s like this.

Sadly I don't expect the judge/ CPS/ solicitors etc. Feel guilty at all.

I think that poor boy's parents are horrible and I don't see why their desire for punishment should be indulged at the expense of innocent children.

You're the one who's horrible, that is a breathtaking thing to say about grieving parents 🙄

rudolfsquiffy · 30/12/2019 19:16

He killed somebody, I'm glad the judge sentenced him and maybe it'll be the deterrent it needed to be.

Leniency on account of his age would have been inappropriate - he did the crime, didn't say sorry. He sounded a cantankerous old git to be frank.

Diva66 · 30/12/2019 19:19

I’m shocked that anybody could describe this as a ‘genuine accident’. The driver narrowly missed hitting a father and children before hitting the ladies. He was unfit to drive before this happened.

Nicknacky · 30/12/2019 19:19

local That’s a truly terrible thing to say about the family of that poor boy.

Why should they have compassion for the woman whose reckless behaviour caused the death of their son and has tried to evade justice?

MuchBetterNow · 30/12/2019 19:20

This thread is disgusting, populated by rancid trolls. MN should have pulled it hours ago, their arbitrary "rules" are a fucking joke.

rosesandcashmere · 30/12/2019 19:20

death by dangerous driving doesn't mean the same as 'tragic accident' it means he's caused a death by his actions. The sentence was pretty lenient in my opinion

Babygoat · 30/12/2019 19:21

He firstly narrowly avoided hitting a Father and son!

He then hit the two women as confused the pedals, he then continued to travel until the car was stopped by bollards. He had no control over the vehicle and should not have been driving

Jack80 · 30/12/2019 19:23

So sad, I can't believe he was locked up and is now dead

local that is honestly one of the crassest posts l have seen. What on earth did you get out of writing that?

nowyoulistenheretaeme · 30/12/2019 19:24

Sorry. They didn’t want revenge.

Sagradafamiliar · 30/12/2019 19:25

Fuck you Local

JustASmallTownCurl · 30/12/2019 19:25

@localocal

I sincerely hope you're a troll because if you're not I don't know how you sleep at night writing such disgusting things about the grieving family of a young man. How dare you. Reported.

FruitcakeOfHate · 30/12/2019 19:26

You are truly beyond fucking disgusting, local. Just sickening. That bitch killed their child and didn't so much as apologise, just left to save her own skin. British staff allowed her to flee without a care in the world about that young man. What about him and his life? That he didn't get to lead, that his family is deprived of? Fucking outrageous to equate his family's desire for justice as a fame grab.

So sad, I can't believe he got back into that car after already running into a bollard and his victim is now dead and the other has life-changing injuries. There, fixed it for you.

fluffiny31 · 30/12/2019 19:31

Not sure i agree with you or not. My partner was killed in an awful accident because someone didn't know how to drive and decided to come him up twice. They never collided but because of her lack of knowledge on fast roads it meant to avoid a collision my boyfriend had to swerve to miss her which resulted in him spinning and colliding with a lamp post and the car exploding. She lied her way through inquest but didn't even get a slap on the wrist for driving without due care and attention it was ruled accidental. I wouldn't of minded as much if she had to have more lessons on fast roads but the thought of someone to scared to do the speed limit on a fast road scares the hell out of me.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 30/12/2019 19:32

Aggravating and mitigating factors are taken into account at the time of sentencing. To jail a man of this age for this crime, the former would have to have been significant. He showed no remorse, which never goes down well with any judge.

I'm sorry he's died. I'm sorry that whoever he killed through his negligence and recklessly irresponsible driving has died, too.

nowyoulistenheretaeme · 30/12/2019 19:34

@Jack80

Do you feel sad for his victims too?

DeRigueurMortis · 30/12/2019 19:36

@MNHQ thank you for deleting that truely awful post from Local.

HeresMe · 30/12/2019 19:37

The OP has either a vested interest, or similar case coming up.

Noone cares like this unless they are related to accused.

HuggedTrees · 30/12/2019 19:38

He killed someone. He drove more than 100ft. He drove when he knew he was incapable of driving safely.

frumpety · 30/12/2019 19:39

Its the total lack of remorse that gets me the most, he killed one woman and maimed another and yet we are supposed to summon up feelings of sympathy for someone who showed absolutely none for his victims ?

TitianaTitsling · 30/12/2019 19:39

I'm assuming this thread is going to get pulled and wonder if that's been the motive for the most recent vile post?

JustASmallTownCurl · 30/12/2019 19:39

Thanks @MNHQ for acting so quickly in that disgraceful post by @localocal

Shameful.
