So a cousin is ttc her first child and is 40.. She will be 41. She's worried (and so am i for her) about missing the chance and boat to have a baby. Is it really possible at that age or not? She said that doctors say at 40 you're eggs are almost gone and there's hardly any left.

All it states on the internet is that a woman isn't very much fertile once she hits 35 so it's becoming worrisome.

Sorry English isn't first language but i tried!
Thank you!

I conceived my son at 39 first month trying, he was born when I was 40.

I then conceived my daughter first month trying at 41.

At 42, and one night of throwing caution to the wind after a few drinks has led to the conception of my third (and final!) child, who will be born (all being well) when I’m 43.

So yes, it’s very much possible!

I conceived my first at 42, first month of trying, and conceived my second 18 months later with no difficulty.

No fertility assistance, no intervention.

No miscarriages, no problems in pregnancy.

Of course it depends on each individual. But it really isn’t rare or even unusual. No woman in my NCT ante natal class was under 39.

I had my first at 39 and my second at 41, both naturally. It can happen, you don’t know until you start trying. She should definitely have a health check and see what the chances are, for her to get pregnant.

A dd had her third at nearly 43. 1st and 2nd were at 38 and 39.
A friend of hers had her 2nd at 45.

Several of her friends have had babies at 40+.

It’s true that some people have problems, but many don’t.,

I would recommend her taking pregnancy or fertility vitamins and also buying a ClearBlue digital ovulation tracker asap. I personally found it very difficult to have sex during the right window otherwise and if she doesn’t she would waste more time.

You have a 5% chance over 40, of getting pregnant, without any help

You missed out the words per cycle.

This frustrates the shot out of me.

Another poster on here said something along the lines of "so I was in the 5% be side I got pregnant at ...'" ... You weren't in the 5% of anything luv - you had a 5% chance per cycle (and of varies by person) .... Not even a basic understanding of what they're talking about.

MarshmallowAra · 28/06/2021 23:29

*shit, obviously.

For reference two healthy twenty something's with no fertility issues have something like a 25% chance per cycle.

Uugh ZOMBIE!

I went back to ttc at age 38 and got pregnant the 2nd month. I got a bfp on my 39th birthday. This will be our first child. My cousin had her first at 40 and 2nd at 44. I think its possibly different for everyone but there's still every chance that she could fall pregnant, plenty do but there are no guarantees.
