AIBU to ask for suggestions for running leggings?

Sorry for putting this in AIBU but when I wanted advice for sports bras you all came through. I should also apologise for calling them running leggings but I can’t remember their proper name. I’ve got one pair and at the moment I’m using and washing but I need a new pair. Every pair I seem to get falls down when I’m running.

I would get a new pair from the site I bought the first pair but I don’t like any of their new styles!

I have probably bought than 10 different brands, cheaper and upmarket. My two favourites are the Asda ones coming second, the top brand is definitely New Balance. They are so comfortable. Much better in my view than Sweaty Betty, Nike and Under Armour (although these come third).

Sturdy By Design. My absolute fave.

Alot of running friends rave about Lucy Locket Loves but I thought they were poor. Bad fit (really baggy and loose around my knees), they never stopped up as no drawstring and their 'large pocket' claim was way to small for my phone, which is hardly huge.

Got to say I needed emergency winter tights and got some from. Decathlon for £10. Absolute bargain and they've been fab

ferretface · 30/12/2019 09:27

@Runningonempty84 I am definitely a "serious" runner and I disagree re SB and lululemon not being made for it, lululemon's tight stuff ii tight is hands down the best running legging I have found as the mesh pockets work really well for gels etc for long runs without needing a separate belt, they are compressive, reflective etc. SB is also well made and have some thick reversible yoga leggings that are excellent for very cold weather running. I do agree that they are overpriced however!

AuntieStella · 30/12/2019 09:32

Decathlon are fabulous and easily the best VFM. Excellent quality, have drawstrings and pockets, and don't gonsee-through. Various colours, lengths, weight of fabric depending on season. A well-known brand (you'll see oodles of runners in it) but it doesn't shout the brand like Sweaty Betty does.

Tikiboo lovely for mid-priced fun brand (not quite as well known as some, excellent quality)

2xU more expensive, but wonderful compression tights which I just live when I'm at high weekly mileage (crap pockets though, but that's not why I have these)

Isithometimeyet0987 · 30/12/2019 10:43

Op I’m not sure about how hard or not it is to get out of the subscription as I pay it every month and haven’t tried to get out of it sorry.

doingmeheadin · 30/12/2019 11:14

Another vote for Sturdy by Design. Lots of ever changing designs (and they aren't as weird/random as Tikiboo!)

Chocolate1984 · 30/12/2019 11:24

I have really good ones from Costco- £15. They have a really high waist so they don’t fall down, have a tie in the waist, thicker material so support any wobbly bits, side pockets. Best leggings I’ve owned. My PT wears expensive brands like Sweaty Betty and these are better. Our Costco only seems to stock them a few time’s a year though.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 30/12/2019 11:27

Try LAP Activewear got a brilliant pair from her

EZA15 · 30/12/2019 13:29

Thanks everyone. I’ve bought a couple from Decathlon. Then as I get more into it will start buying a few of the other ones mentioned.

Good luck OP! But beware, this running kit-buying is addictive. I can't get within 50 metres of a Pete Bland Sports van without seriously losing my cool (hopefully some northern fell running types will be able to sympathise!)

lastqueenofscotland · 30/12/2019 17:24

Stick to proper running brands. Asics are the absolute best. And usually can be picked up reasonably in sales and on eBay outfits. I run about 50 + miles a week and have tried every brand going. They are the best by a mile and last forever

TrueRefuge · 30/12/2019 17:34

I just ordered a few from ASOS! They have a good sale on name brands at the moment, some nice Reebok and Puma ones. I bought two pairs of addidas, just tried them today, they fit great and very good value in the sale.

ChocolateTea · 30/12/2019 17:40

2xu are my favourite, they have an outlet section on their website. I play sport and ran marathons in their stuff and they don't budge. I love tikiboos, but not a fan of their newer designs, I preferred them when they were patterns not skulls and unicorns etc, and I also prefer a drawstring not an elastic waist so haven't ordered since they changed.

SexIsAProtectedCharacteristic · 30/12/2019 18:11

I've tried a lot of brands but my favourite current ones are the women's winter trail running tights from decathlon. Fleece lined, two big leg pockets that you can fill with gels, phone, money etc and a stretchy back pocket. They are £24 though but great vfm.

EZA15 · 30/12/2019 18:49

Runningonempty84 haha I’m like that with trainers. I think if I find a decent pair though I’ll end up stocking up!

lastqueenofscotland any particular ASICS design or are they all pretty good?

TrueRefuge I tried some Reeboks ones but they kept falling down and now they’re relegated to around the house leggings

SexIsAProtectedCharacteristic is there a particular site to buy them from or is it from a Google search?

Mrshue · 30/12/2019 18:55

I’ve got a few sweaty Betty. But I hate the fabric. It’s like a wetsuit! Yoga pants are a fab one!

Mrshue · 30/12/2019 18:55

Sorry. Yoga leggs

user1471539385 · 30/12/2019 19:10

Another vote for Lucy Locket Loves. The actives run true to size, or size down if between sizes, and don’t shift in the slightest. They have fab patterns, no subscription and are £33 when full price, although there are often special offers.

SexIsAProtectedCharacteristic · 31/12/2019 17:56

@EZA15

It's these ones

JennyWoodentop · 31/12/2019 18:19

I'm late to this thread. Good to hear you got some you like.

I second the drawstring advice if leggings falling down is the problem. Also if you get a size too small they tend to roll down too.

My all time favourites are an old pair of Sugoi - expensive but on mark down worth it. I have done well with Nike sales too. I agree stick to running brands. I am in Canada so Lululemon is popular. They have nice designs but the quality has gone down hill in the last few years in my view.

WeaselsKingHenry · 31/12/2019 18:22

Contra are very good. They are also ethically made and profits go to support parkrun 😍

EZA15 · 31/12/2019 20:26

SexIsAProtectedCharacteristic they are beautiful - what’s the sizing like on those? Should I get my actual size or go a size up etc.?

JennyWoodentop and WeaselIsKingHenry thank you for the suggestion, I’ll add them to my list of ‘tights to check out’ Runningonempty84 you were right after all the suggestions on this thread I do have a list of ‘wants’!

OP posts:
SexIsAProtectedCharacteristic · 31/12/2019 20:43

They're pretty true to size ime. I'm a 12 and the medium fits well.

thenightsky · 31/12/2019 20:47

TKMaxx Elle are my latest ones. I also have Long Tally Sally ones that are years old but fab. I struggle finding long ones due to having a 36in inside leg.

I tend to buy anything that is long enough and doesn't flap around ankles, so little zips are good.
