AIBU?
To think that NOT RTFT
PanicAndRun · 28/12/2019 22:02
...should be a breach of guidelines?
Mostly it can be amusing or eye roll worthy when someone barges in a few pages later without reading more than the OP, and even that is questionable sometimes. Some replies seem based on just the title .
But there have been several threads lately that were quite sensitive , with the posters in dangerous situations, vulnerable,at risk or just in a very emotional state.
And posters kept showing up without RTFT , any of OP's comments or updates and just sticking the boot in and having a go at OP again and again based on a quarter of the information.
If people have form for this and do it repeatedly I think it should count as breaking guidelines, then maybe people wouldn't be so callous and lazy.

I agree non-RTFTers are a pain in the arse, but there are things MNHQ could do to help cut down on the problem. Like making it not possible to post until the last page of a thread so that people are at least more likely to notice if it’s six pages long, and having a View OP’s Posts Only option.
Primrosepenny · 28/12/2019 22:12
It’s a pain when people don’t RTFT but it will become too much work for MN to delete all the posts of those who didn’t RTFT. Then you’ll have arguments about people saying they have read it but their response has been deleted anyway etc. I think it would become too regulated
PanicAndRun · 28/12/2019 22:13
Surely life is too short to rtft every time and definitely too short to get annoyed about people not rtft
Surely on threads about relationships breaking down, abuse, mental or physical health etc the least you could do is to at least read OP's posts if not the whole thread.
A lot of people post here in vulnerable/dangerous real life situations. It's not all zoflora scents and toilet brush wars.
2020BetterBeBetter · 28/12/2019 22:14
I can see your point but sometimes I post and then several previous replies appear above mine that weren’t there before so I can see how sometimes it can inadvertently happen. No excuse when a thread has been going for a few days and is several pages long though.
Zofloramummy · 28/12/2019 22:16
I think I saw you on a thread today panicandrun which was a great example of why this is a problem. Pages of posts from people who hadn’t read the initial Op properly never mind any updates. Derailed the thread really with RTFT posts when the op needed some support for a very real and potentially dangerous problem.
It means it’s so much harder for her to pick out the helpful information and not be totally disheartened by the judgements from people who couldn’t be bothered to read the updates.
A button to read all of the ops posts would be a really good idea

Some people are just stupid though. I know exactly which thread you are referring to and there have been comments on that thread where relevant information has been posted over and over again and they're STILL coming out with idiotic suggestions or moronic comments. I'm utterly astonished at the stupidity on that thread.
PanicAndRun · 28/12/2019 22:19
I really don't want this to be a TAAT , it's not an isolated example. It's not even the only example this week.
I've seen it happen again and again and the most infuriating ones where OP was accused of dripfeeding when she posted previous information again for the "newcomers " .
NearlyGranny · 28/12/2019 22:19
Agree, Primrose penny! ^
Especially when people in really tricky and complicated situations are seeking reassurance and people who clearly haven't taken on board the situation pile in to condemn sensible courses of action or blatantly victim blame.
Perhaps a warning about RTFT before commenting might deter the worst of it.
beautifulstranger101 · 28/12/2019 22:22
Yeah, I get it. I dont know how you can avoid that though. There will always be people barging in with stupid comments, not having read updates or completely misinterpreting the OP entirely.
It makes me never want to post an AIBU because people can be absolutely vicious. I bet they aren't like that in real life face to face- they'd be permanently being punched otherwise
