To think this year has been the worst for Christmas telly

None of the stations seem to have made any effort whatsoever. Even on boxing night there was nothing special on anywhere. Usually there'd have been a couple of good dramas, a new Agatha Christie, festive editions of several popular shows eg Midsomer murders, grantchester, Downton Abbey .

But apart from Gavin and Stacy and a rather lacklustre Call the Midwife there's been nothing.

Aibu to be really disappointing this year's festive offerings?

It was abysmal! And my dm is devoted to soaps so one telly was taken up on Christmas Day from 7pm to 10-bloody-30pm with that fucking tripe.

Loveislandaddict · 28/12/2019 20:55

Only watched Gavin and Stacey, and Worzel Gummidge, and Christmas Day NBA Basketball!

Legallybleachblonde · 28/12/2019 20:57

Agree! And no Die Hard either!!! You cant have Christmas without John Mcclane!!

Charlottejade89 · 28/12/2019 21:23

I've quite enjoyed it this year, although me and my partner prefer films to actual tv programmes so may e that's why. But christmas eve I watched with my dd the grinch, santa claus the movie, the tiger who came to tea and father christmas. Elf was also on, and home alone, watched home alone 2 on xmas day, and gavin and stacey (dont watch tv in the day xmas day, listen to music instead) and yesterday we watched films almost all day theres was lots of good ones on

Crazyoldmaurice · 28/12/2019 21:25

Just had this convo with my mil and oh. Worst xmas tv in a long long time. Gavin and stacey was a total let down; just seemed like a massive rehash of other episodes and very predictable. Everything that's been on TV seems to already be on netflix already.

leccybill · 28/12/2019 21:28

Has Ethel and Ernest not been on this year? Have enjoyed watching that the last couple of years.

ForalltheSaints · 28/12/2019 21:34

It is equally as bad as last year as Mrs Browns Boys is still being shown. Worse than bad rubbish.

Suomynona · 28/12/2019 21:34

'World's Strongest Man' anyone? I'm sick for the second Christmas in a row and it's been the highlight of my day for last couple of days!

ssd · 28/12/2019 21:35

Op I couldn't agree more

Drogonssmile · 28/12/2019 22:03

When I saw The Chase: Bloopers, that really did it for me. And it was repeated the following day. FFS.

GoGoLego · 28/12/2019 22:06

I missed a good Agatha Christie to get my teeth into.

The seems to be lots of compilations of lots of mini repeats in one big show. And lots of year and decade roundups + the usual load of old repeats

I liked the gavin and Stacey update but it wasn't enough to sustain the entire Christmas period

GoGoLego · 28/12/2019 22:10

They had pointless on bbc1 at 9pm this evening. I mean it's a great show but should be shown to finish at 7pm latest not 9:10pm

lumpy76 · 28/12/2019 22:20

Commented tonight that I'd only watched one tv programme all Christmas. Didn't watch Call the midwife as the plot seemed silly - randomly going to the outer Hebrides! Instead I have rad a book on my new kindle & caught up on the new series of new Amsterdam on Amazon.

BentNeckLady · 28/12/2019 22:25

We haven’t watched any terrestrial tv at all tbh. There’s be absolutely nothing that has appealed to any of us. BBC is just repeats and the rest are unwatchable because of the adverts.

We’ve been watching Vikings on Prime and various films on Netflix.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 28/12/2019 22:28

They should've put Dr who special on on xmas day like they used to. As soon as they made the dr a woman she got banished to new year. Fuckers.

Never watched Gavin and Stacey so that was no use.
It was like the whole thing was half arsed as they think everyone has Netflix now.

I miss Charlie Brookers yearly wipe too.

raspberryk · 28/12/2019 22:31

It's always been bad imo and so I've never watched any Xmas tv. Would much rather spend actual proper time with the family than staring at the tv.

roiseandjim · 28/12/2019 22:34

Completely agree it's been shit this year

Pinkarsedfly · 28/12/2019 22:36

I’ve liked it this year.

Adored the new versions of A Christmas Carol and Worzel Gummidge.

Loved Paddington 2, and caught a rerun of Oliver! which always goes down well with Boxing Day leftovers.

Enjoyed Gavin and Stacey and The Witcher.

Looking forward to watching Michael Hutchence - Mystify.

Dylanpickle · 28/12/2019 22:47

There has been nothing that has really appealed to us, we've watched Netflix & Amazon.

Don't watch soaps, G&S or call the midwife. Worzel gummage terrified me as a kid and this adaptation looked even more scary!

We are going to watch Top Gear tomorrow.

Saddler · 28/12/2019 22:48

I agree Op, utter dog shit

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 28/12/2019 22:57

Absolutely agree.

Worzel Gummidge was rubbish.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 28/12/2019 22:59

@Misscromwellrocks I downloaded an Agatha Christie from Amazon "Ordeal By Innocence " it was good 😊
I had looked for one in advance because id seen the TV was going to be appalling .

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 28/12/2019 23:01

Anyone who enjoyed Worzel cant have watched the original as a child imho.

NameChangeNugget · 28/12/2019 23:09

Only watched G&S & Call The Midwife. Rest of time been watching Prime.

Looking forward to “The Trial of Christine Keeler” starting tomorrow

Tillygetsit · 28/12/2019 23:32

Wurzel Gummidge was the Christmas hit in our house. Just magical.
