6 week old with temperature, Gp or A&E?

I know not AIBU, but waned quick replies.

6 week old Dd, had a difficult night crying, unsettled and she has a temp of 38, it's not going down although she's still feeding.
Nhs website recommends Gp with temp in babies under 3 months and I've phoned out of hours and I'm waiting a call back. Her dad thinks we just take her to A&E now though as she's not getting any cooler and there's nothing we can do/give her. Feeling a bit useless and unsure what to do. Been waiting 20 minutes for dr so far and it took about 15 to get through when we phoned.
No rash or anything but she's crying and unsettled, feeding on and off and the temp not going down.

Get well soon xx

Cryingoverspilttea · 28/12/2019 12:37

Always A&E for babies that young.

Sssneks · 28/12/2019 23:48

Glad things seem stable, OP. Wishing your little one a speedy recovery.

GirlOnIt · 29/12/2019 10:15

Thank you @Sssneks and @Wonkydonkey44. She had a bad night, quite unsettled and at one point really high temp. But she's seeming much better this morning, temp is back to normal, feeding normal and seems happier in herself.
They think it was just her fighting a virus, I was poorly before Christmas and older Ds has had a cough, cold etc.
Waiting to be checked over again, but hopefully will be coming home today at some point.

I'm sorry you had a rough night, but glad that she's doing better. It's such a huge worry when tiny babies are involved. Fingers crossed you can all get home soon!

Clinical Scientist trainee here.

Vinegar does not bring a temp down. People like you should be fucking banned from posting.

GirlOnIt · 29/12/2019 11:35

Thank you @Sssneks. It really is and as lovely and reassuring as staff were they're also obviously checking it's nothing more serious so you've got that worry that it might be. My eldest was unsettled for his grandparents too, so my mum had gone to get him as he generally settles better with her, but I was worrying about him too.

Definitely no bathing her in vinegar though.

I'm pleased to hear she's on the mend OP; it must have been frightening for you. I hope you get everyone home today💐

Vinegar...

PurpleCrazyHorse · 29/12/2019 12:06

So pleased your newborn is on the mend. Hoping everyone gets some sleep tonight including your eldest.

We were sent to A&E by ambulance from the OOH GP when 3mo DS had bronchiolitis. What no one realised (because the GP didn't have a small enough probe to get on DS's finger) was that his sats were dropping dangerously low when he went to sleep. Only realised at A&E when the alarms went off. I stayed up all night holding the oxygen mask near his face (too big for the oxygen box) and he had a feeding tube put in. We were still home in 24hrs, he perked up so quickly. The staff couldn't have been more lovely or diligent.

TheoriginalLEM · 29/12/2019 12:13

Hoping all is well

ElusiveOrangeTwirl · 29/12/2019 12:26

I'll always think of this terrible advice when I put vinegar on my chips.

Knittedfairies · 29/12/2019 13:18

No, no, no @ElusiveOrangeTwirl - never put vinegar on your chips.... they'll cool down too much to eat.

HigherFurtherFasterBaby · 29/12/2019 16:32

Enjoy your freezing cold chips hun x

BreatheJustBreathe · 29/12/2019 17:36

No, no, no@ElusiveOrangeTwirl-neverput vinegar on your chips.... they'll cool down too much to eat.

😂

OP glad hear little dd is on the mend.

Afrigginggoat · 29/12/2019 17:52

Crikey my dad always refuses to put vinegar on Chips because of cooling it down too much. Who knew eh?

LakieLady · 29/12/2019 17:54

So pleased the baby's doing well, OP.

GirlOnIt · 29/12/2019 21:20

She's home and seeming well, feeding lots and a bit clingy but her temperature as stayed normal. Think my babies just like to scars me.
I'm really hoping she'll sleep or at least go to her daddy tonight, because I'm exhausted.
