Boxing Day - most stressful day of the year.

DJA1511 · 26/12/2019 10:52

Every year Boxing Day is completely pants.

My house is a tip, there’s toys everywhere. Laundry to catch up on after missing yesterday. Dishes drying on the rack to put away. My wheely bin and recycling bags are over filling.

I’m googling storage solutions for toys my family have bought the children.

Whilst wondering if we could build an extension t a play room? 🤣🤣

Kids want to go out and spend their Christmas money just to bring more stuff into the house.

Half eaten chocolate all over the kitchen sides!!

Anyone else??

You could have tidied up before you went to bed last night.

You could also have done a load of washing yesterday.

However - remember that eventually they will go back to school and you'll get the routine back up and running.

formerbabe · 26/12/2019 10:55

Everywhere I look there's sweet wrappers and bits of packaging...

I'm not feeling too stressed about it though!

Oh and a playroom won't solve your problems...we have one and my dd still manages to scatter her toys in every single room!

GruciusMalfoy · 26/12/2019 10:56

Hate to be "that person" but I'm pretty chilled! Bags to be taken to recycling centre tomorrow are in the car (put there yesterday after opening stuff). Kids took most of their gifts upstairs before lunch yesterday, I caught up on laundry a lot prior to yesterday so we dint have a lot waiting. Grin I think I prefer today to yesterday!

DJA1511 · 26/12/2019 10:57

I did Tidy up last night. In fact it looked great but they’ve been up since 5am and fighting a losing battle! I did a load of washing late on Christmas Eve and have so much to do already.

I have ocd and I just can’t deal with this 🤣🤣

Do you do laundry every day?

DJA1511 · 26/12/2019 11:00

Yes every day @Jumpi. Both my children have additional needs and create a lot of washing!!

Get the DC to sort through all their stuff and get them to choose some items to sell/charity shop...

troppibambini · 26/12/2019 11:01

I love Boxing Day! I hosted for 30 on xmas eve and 10 yest but today I only have close family over so very little to be done.
This morn everyone has grabbed a bin bag, one did floors, one wiped up ,one mopped.
Tidyness is restored (for now) candles are lit and I'm in the sofa in my comfies waiting for family to arrive.

Fizzypoo · 26/12/2019 11:01

I thought about tidying up last night, I went to bed and did it in this morning with a hangover. Ideally I'd have liked to have tidied up before bed and walked my hangover off with a nice brisk walk.

troppibambini · 26/12/2019 11:02

Ok apologies two kids with additional needs make it much harder!! Is dp around to help you?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 26/12/2019 11:02

DJA
Create a tidying up game. Get them all to help. Then straight out to the local park or similar in the vain hope they might exhaust themselves?

user1487194234 · 26/12/2019 11:03

I love Boxing Day
Chilling all day I new PJs , catching up on TV
Eating leftovers and chocolate
Can you say let's spend an hour tidying and then try and chill x

WelshMammaofaSlovak · 26/12/2019 11:03

I didn't buy much and I got rid of the stuff dd had outgrown just before Christmas. I did a washing on the 24th and 25th because a) washable nappies and b) watching it all pile up is more stressful than actually dealing with it! We also tidied as we went and I think that's the joy of living in a small flat - you have to stay on top of it but it's less actual work because it's less space. Another room would just be another room to full with clutter and then try to keep on top of. My husband wants a bigger flat but I'm having none of it. Today we've already taken dd to the park to play with the pig Confused and run off excess energy. She's napping now so I'm off to make chilli for friends who are visiting later. I love Boxing Day - no rules so do it your way.

adaline · 26/12/2019 11:04

I love Boxing Day.

We tidied up last night before bed (no DC here) so there wasn't much to do this morning. I just ran the hoover around and put some laundry on and now I'm sat under a duvet on the sofa watching TV!

No plans at all for today - just relaxing, watching crap telly, eating leftovers from yesterday and maybe having a nap!

ineedaholidaynow · 26/12/2019 11:04

Are you the only adult in the house? How old are the DC?

Boxing Day here is a chill out day and play with your toys/games day

adaline · 26/12/2019 11:05

And I'm another who did some housework yesterday - washing up plus a load of laundry. It only took twenty minutes or so out of my day.

megletthesecond · 26/12/2019 11:10

Yep. All I'm doing is tidying, cleaning, food prep and admin. (Lone parent). And I've got to get the dc's out for some exercise so they're not climbing the walls.

ShinyGiratina · 26/12/2019 11:14

I'm bored.

No visiting/ visitors. Shit weather meaning yet another day of this scabby autumn/ winter that's been limping on since August. DH is in relaxation mode, which is well deserved as in recent months he's worked hard at DIY which was just completed in the nick of time before Christmas. Indeed, I've been working hard at it too which is why I'm pig sick of being in the house. Unfortunately when DH is in relax mode, and there's two lively DCs rained into the house, it's not very relaxing, and I feel stuck in limbo.

Ambrose2 · 26/12/2019 11:14

I love Boxing Day. Just a totally chilled day. Kids playing with their toys in the mess TV on catching up on what we never manage to watch on the day, eating all the treats we were too full to eat the day before. No pressure to get dressed or host/ visit. It's like the best Sunday of the year, an actual day of rest after the business of Xmas day

Elbeagle · 26/12/2019 11:14

We were just saying how lovely and chilled the morning has been compared to yesterday!
We cleaned the kitchen straight after dinner yesterday. Sorted toys into nice piles after the DC were in bed. Yesterday was manic with 10 people here, today it’s just the 5 of us and so quiet in comparison! 6 year old has the flu so hasn’t moved much off the sofa for a few days, 4 year old happily playing with new toys, baby crawling around creating havoc but we’re used to that, and I’m watching crap on the TV. Dad and partner coming round later, but doing low key, easy prep food.

Bickles · 26/12/2019 11:16

I love Boxing Day. We have done the big tidy and find homes for all the new stuff now. I had a toy sort and clear out in early December so there is space.
DS is building Lego in his PJs and I’m having a bath in my new bath oil.
I’ll put on my new PJs and we’ll watch a film and play a couple of our new games (Exploding Kittens, Harry Potter Dobble) this afternoon.
Food is stand pie and cheese followed by bubble and squeak with ham for us and pizza followed by picnic food for DS.

WooMaWang · 26/12/2019 11:18

My Boxing Day is relaxed so far. DP has gone to visit his mum with the DSC (staying the night). DS2 is sitting next to me on the sofa watching Clue.

It won't stay quiet though. My family are coming to visit at 12.30ish. I'm regretting having inviting them as I'd rather stay in my pyjamas and lounge around all day.

There's loads of recycling to take to the recycling centre and stuff to put away but I'm ignoring it. DP can do that when he comes home. We only moved house just over a week ago and I had to do everything, so he can sort the rest. And unpack his remaining boxes (I've done all the rest).

sameasiteverwasantiques · 26/12/2019 11:19

I know how you feel OP. I've opened all the boxed presents so I can start on crushing them into the recycling bin lol,

hidinginthenightgarden · 26/12/2019 11:20

I love boxing Day! We will be going to my mums soon and spend a day drinking, laughing and more presents for the kids.
By the time we get home Friday though, I will have had enough and want the house back in order.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 26/12/2019 11:20

Nah. No shopping and no more tat in the house until the kids have made room THEMSELVES for THEIR new tat.

Happy leftovers and pjs day - cheers!!
