Do your teenagers swear around you..?

I don't remember any conversations about this when I was younger, but neither me or my older siblings ever swore in front of my parents. I remember going out with my siblings one day and being surprised that they swore quite a lot outside the family home.

I rarely swear and don't particularly like it. My teens tell me I'm old fashioned and that everybody does it. I pick them up on it on the fairly rare times that they do it. I think it's disrespectful, but wonder if I'm being unreasonable. What happens in your home?

I'm not a teen but I just said 'fucking, shitty, cunting pish flaps' in front of my mum to see what the reaction would be.
She replied 'what is fucking, shitty cunting pish flaps?'.
I may be childish but my mum saying pish flaps has me in stitches.

my 12 year old let a swear word slip a few weeks ago and was horrified with himself - probably that i’d heard him though, not because he said it! i’ve never sworn in front of my parents, and rarely swear at all, but my sister does and has done since she was a teen.

Yes. My DD has been swearing around me since she was little.

It always seemed really strange to me that so many kids swear loads when parents and teachers etc are not about so we did it backwards and taught her it was fine to swear in private when around people you know won't mind it, but totally unacceptable in public or with people who might be offended. Worked for us.

Yes but then so do I. Never at me though. Mainly in a jokey way

We're a sweary household, but we don't swear at people. We all moderate when out and about. People get so pearl clutching about swearing - don't they have bigger things to worry about?

My late husband was very down on swearing - if he's used half the energy he expended on being the swear police to tackle his alcoholism and mental health issues, he might be alive. Priorities, people.

Mine are toddlers but when I was a teen I hated swearing and told my parents off when they swore. They are very relaxed and wouldn't have cared if I did. I wouldn't allow my children to as I still really dislike swearing.
