I’m not saying this to be ungrateful, but sometimes I do wonder what goes through my relatives’ heads at Christmas Grin anyone else? We received:

A tin of peaches for my 12 year old
Clothes that are 5 sizes too big for my 15 year old
Alcohol for me, when I’ve made it very clear that I don’t drink and haven’t for 20 years
A window vacuum
A box of drawing pins

What strange gifts did your family get?

A cook book with only 5 vegetarian recipes in, I’ve been vegetarian for 20 years and it was from a very close relative who knows this.

sqirrelfriends · 26/12/2019 20:50

@paulhollywoodshairgel omg I actually love that. I saw something v similar in Tiger, May go have another look as it would be a great holder for my makeup brushes.

motortroll · 26/12/2019 20:55

@paulhollywoodshairgel I love it!

ButterflyBook · 26/12/2019 20:56

Fleece all-in-one pyjama thing with hood and pom-poms from sil. I'm over 60 and always wake up a couple of times in the night for a wee. I'm buggered if I'm struggling in and out of that in the wee small hours. Far too hot as well. Charity shop.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 26/12/2019 21:03

I hate the stuff and I am not in my twenties anymore 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is there an age limit on Prosecco now?

JaceLancs · 26/12/2019 21:03

A lovely scarf but in a colour that doesn’t suit me
Drinks markers
Mixed nuts (I’m on a diet)

Biscusting · 26/12/2019 21:47

@ButterflyBook I got one of those last year from MIL, it’s unbearably hot to wear to bed!

burritofan · 26/12/2019 21:56

A hideous polyester houndstooth print scarf
Some very runny jam in novelty flavours
A sort of tag/sign thing to hang from a doorknob saying "Stop! Baby Inside, Asleep!" (she bloody well isn't)
A bag for life

Goldduck · 26/12/2019 21:59

An ice scraper. One for my husband and one for me 😂❄️

Cherrysoup · 26/12/2019 22:06

Nothing terrible, mostly because me and my DH bought our own gifts! I did get a really nice scarf, very expensive but totally pointless. I don’t wear scarves, ever, they‘d just get covered in hay when I’m making hay nets and I’m very un fussy, I wear sweatshirts if I’m not at work, so scarves are pointless. Shame, because it’s really nice.

This has to be a really odd one. A half opened bottle of port from my Dad and his wife.

A) I have never drunk port in my life. B) why was it already opened, who would do that?
Both me and DH are actually quite annoyed by it and don't know what to do about it.

I mean if it had just been popped into the bottle bag I could understand someone getting mixed up while doing the present wrapping but it was wrapped up!

DrierThanANunsNasty · 26/12/2019 22:24

A delightful catering apron... like the proper ones you’d wear if you worked in Spoons kitchen (black and white checked). It’s the fourth apron I’ve received in four years from MIL who thinks I should be a housewife and is very upfront about it. DH got a car cleaning set... we don’t have a car Hmm

helpasisterout · 26/12/2019 22:25

Nothing wildly bad but just a set of body wash that is lovely but I'm very specific in the skincare and wash I use that agrees with my skin so don't like other extra things and a color changing gin making kit given to me because the giver said my original gift of a bottle of prosecco wasn't appropriate because I am pregnant.. random but good fun and I'm sure I don't get it right all the time either!

lifeisgoodmostofthetime · 26/12/2019 23:26

M&S bubble bath that's 1 year out of date! Hmm from my lovely friend. I will use it but how long has she had it stashed away or worse still how many times has it been regifted

Osirus · 27/12/2019 01:01

New car scent air fresheners. I don’t even have a car and I failed my driving test recently.

I’m going to hang them on the seat in front next time I get on the bus.Grin

Panpastels · 27/12/2019 01:08

Scented drawer liners from MIL Hmm.every year I get something totally not 'me' from her. Why can't she just get me some bath stuff or something? I'm not that fussy!

anon2000000000 · 27/12/2019 01:44

It's not a weird gift - I just don't like the scent. It's a jo malone perfume.

DuchessofWoke · 27/12/2019 02:11

All the selection boxes. I know the DC love them but mine have ended up with 4 each. It’s just so much chocolate they don’t need and I hate having it around the house.

My MIL discovered TK Max this year so all our gifts came from there. So I received a rose gold clutch bag I’ll never use with smellies from a brand I’ve never heard of and a calendar with cats on. It will all go to the charity shop.

DH was given a short sleeved shirt from Pringle. I haven’t seen Pringle for years so I’m assuming this is a TK Max purchase as well. He has never worn a short-sleeved shirt in his life.

We always used to get presents from John Lewis with gift receipts helpfully included. Not any more it seems.

OldPodge · 27/12/2019 02:27

Most of my loved ones bought me a calendar this year. Grin

DuchessofWoke · 27/12/2019 02:30

The calendar I received from my MIL is called a “Busy Mums Calendar”.

Funny, she didn’t source a “Busy Dads Calendar” for her son.

Lofari · 27/12/2019 02:39

Funny story.
My sister bought my DD a styling dolls head. Don't think she realised its a proper salon one so its very realistic, and the box doesn't tell you what it is.
Imagine my daughters surprise when she opened what looked like a severed head in a box ....

echt · 27/12/2019 02:44

This thread has made me larf.

Especially as my gifts are all a propos, but as they come from only two sources, DD and best friend in UK, the capacity for buggerup is reduced.

HerRoyalNotness · 27/12/2019 02:47

@paulhollywoodshairgel. I LOVE that!!!
