Anyone else with relatives that have seriously outstayed their welcome?! They've been here since 12!!

OP, so those young adults were actually acting like teenagers / children and should have been given some adult guidance on what to do or not do.
I'd have stopped them playing with the Meccano.
I'd also have said something like "Well, we'll have to chuck you out now as we've had a long day with the kids."
Say it cheerfully and if they take offence, it's too bad.

other visitors arriving (on Saturday) ... had to cancel which my dad knows as I mentioned it

But why on earth did you tell him??!!! Shock Confused

Sorry to hear your stepmum's in A&E, but with treatment there's every chance she'd have been fit to fly by Saturday anyway ...

AdorableMisfit · 26/12/2019 13:54

@Puzzled - Alas, I mentioned it to him days ago before this situation arose. They're meant to fly tonight and she started feeling unwell yesterday.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/12/2019 14:00

Ah - see what you mean, AdorableMisfit. It looks as if you're stuck for now then, but at least you're forewarned for another year

Maybe the unfortunate A&E experience will put them off travelling to you in future, and even if not you can say you don't want them to risk it with winter bugs around, etc.

girlygirl98 · 26/12/2019 14:27

@MyMajesty unfortunately they're from dh's side of the family so I didn't feel like I could go in and tell them to stop playing etc. You're right though acting like kids
