Of the side effects.

Sorry, posting for traffic. Who has taken doxycycline before and NOT had bad side effects? I’ve just popped two for a sinus infection and have now read hundreds of accounts of awful side effects online. Have felt so ill for a week and was hoping to feel better for Christmas Day - now worried I’m going to feel worse 😳

I never have side effects from antibiotics, though I’ve taken a fair few different types for horrible sinus infections.
Is there another medication you take? Or food you like? I suggest you Google for side effects/allergies related to that. That will remind you that different things affect people differently.

mummagirl · 24/12/2019 14:11

You need to take it with food and lots of water or you'll be nauseous

InTheBleakMidwinterIWouldSing · 24/12/2019 14:11

By the way I hope you’re feeling much better soon. Flowers

Ihavethefinalsleigh · 24/12/2019 14:12

I've taken them many times and been absolutely fine. Do finish the course @Randomname85.

Dunno why I've double posted. Xmas Confused

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 24/12/2019 14:13

My mum takes this quite often for a recurrent condition. A bit of nausea. Nothing else. Avoid if pregnant. But otherwise I’d not be too worried. Hope you feel better soon.

Stressedout10 · 24/12/2019 14:14

Had it twice it's the only antibiotic that doesn't give me terrible gut issues

Randomname85 · 24/12/2019 14:25

Thanks so much! Feel relieved to read these 👌🏻

I’ve been fine on this - took it for 2 weeks. Not a single side effect. Obviously lots of people do experience some effects but hopefully you’ll be one of the lucky ones too.

thaegumathteth · 24/12/2019 14:34

Never had side effects from them

Tistheseason17 · 24/12/2019 14:39

Side effects affect a small amount of people. You will always read the accounts from those effected - people who were fine don't go online and post about how they had no issues. Drugs are tested, some people have side effects - be aware of them and relax.

Poorolddaddypig · 24/12/2019 14:41

No side effects for me, ever.

BonnyConnie · 24/12/2019 14:42

I’ve taken two long courses (2 months each time) with zero issues.

slashlover · 24/12/2019 14:55

Were they prescribed to you? Surely you read the little leaflet in the box before taking them?

kinsss · 24/12/2019 14:59

I only read about side effects if I feel odd after taking meds!

Side effects are relatively rare.

yips · 24/12/2019 15:06

I was on a long course of doxy for acne and a short course for chlamydia. Only thing I would say is take it with a full glass of water and don't lie down for half an hour after, as if it dissolves in your oesophagus you may get a horrible heartburn-type pain for a week or so after.

orangeisnotmycolour · 24/12/2019 15:16

I hate these antibiotics and I told my GP never again. Made me feel sick the entire time I took them, and I finished the course. Funnily enough my best mate took them recently too and she felt the same as me.

Saying that, I would take them again if they were the best antibiotics for the infection I had. Much rather have the side-effects from them than the infection.

At the end of the day, it's only a short term thing, whereas the infection could have serious consequences of not treated.

blackcat86 · 24/12/2019 15:19

I've had it several times and been fine. It can give me a slightly dry throat. Everyone is different. I find doxycycline works really well for me (recently also had it for sinusitis).

Skigal86 · 24/12/2019 15:22

I had them as an anti malarial and was on them for almost two months, so might be different as I only took one a day, I felt sick for the first day or so but was fine after that as long as I took them with food. Only other side effect was that my hands and feet burnt very badly in the sun despite liberal application of factor 50, but assuming you’re in the UK, that’s unlikely to be a problem for you!

frippit · 24/12/2019 15:24

My husband takes docycycline regularly for respiratory infections as he has COPD.
He says it can make him feel a bit sick sometimes and puts his sugar up. He's type 1 diabetic.
However, it certainly knocks an infection on the head so worth a bit of discomfort.

belay · 24/12/2019 15:27

Our 13 year old is taking these for acne . No issues

DH and I took it on a recent trip to India as an antimalarial. DH had constant diarrhoea, it did not stop until he stopped taking it. I had severe headaches and constant heartburn.
Malarone gave us both liquid diarrhoea and I gather Lariam sends you crazy, we are not going back to any places where there is malaria.
