Can I ask how much you spent on IVF / fertility treatment? How many rounds did you go for and did you successfully get pregnant and carry to term?

I was entitled to three rounds for free on the NHS but conceived on our first round. I now have a 7 week old DD.
I know I am very fortunate.

UnlikelyFinancialGuru · 23/12/2019 13:32

A friend

UnlikelyFinancialGuru · 23/12/2019 13:33

Posted too soon! A friend of mine spent almost £100k before getting her daughter. I can’t remember how many rounds that was, but it included ‘extras’ like acupuncture and so on.

uniquehornsonly · 23/12/2019 14:22

One free round on the NHS - didn't implant.

First private round cost £4200 incl drugs - produced DC1 on first cycle. No frozen embryos.

Second private round was a multi cycle deal where we paid for up to 2 cycles upfront at a reduced cost of £7600 incl drugs - produced DC2 on the first cycle. There were also 2 frozen embryos that we opted not to use once DC2 was born.

So we spent £11,800 in total for 2 kids, but could have done it for less. We had already decided that if the second private round didn't work, we would stop at that point.

About £20k for 3 rounds and loads of tests. Didn’t get pg.

HavelockVetinari · 23/12/2019 14:30

It's £6k a pop for us including consultant-led care and drugs. We had 1 free round on the NHS at Kings (awful, really terribly organised, uncaring staff!) then went to Mr Khalaf at Guys on a couple of recommendations. We have 1 DS who took 1 fresh round at Guys (mc) and then a FET (DS). Have had 3 fresh rounds since, 1 BFN and 2 mc, and are in the middle of another round now. So we've spent in total about £35k so far.

Sammi38 · 23/12/2019 14:33

I paid £11k, through access fertility. It gave me 3 free rounds including associated embryo transfers, and if they failed I’d have got 100% refund.

My first round was successful, so we actually lost money on it, but I liked having that safety net of extra goes and a full refund if they didn’t work.

Si1ver · 23/12/2019 14:33

£2.1k for the actual ICSI plus £500 for the drugs. Once you add in the flights, all the scans and accommodation or was probably £3.1k

One baby from a fresh transfer, 2 in the freezer. We were super lucky.

EmbarrassingMama · 23/12/2019 14:54

Gosh, there’s so much variation. Thanks for your candid answers so far.

Spent about £12,000 for one fresh round that had to be cancelled before implant as I got OHSS and one Frozen round. I did get pregnant and am due in 3 weeks. That price included ICSI and drugs and we pay an extra £1000 every two years to keep our other 17 embryos frozen.

Tigger85 · 23/12/2019 16:09

7k on round 1 which resulted in 2x c grade embryos, one of which ended up being my son. Then another 16k on 2 fresh and1 frozen rounds to try for a sibling. Neither of the fresh worked and the frozen ended in miscarriage. The embryos were supposedly better quality each time with the last one being an a grade hatching blastocyst. We have 1 frozen embryo left (b grade day 5 blastocyst) and will spend another 2k to use it and then we will be out of funds.

SerenDippitty · 23/12/2019 16:10

£15k for three cycles, no pregnancy.

eurochick · 23/12/2019 16:21

I'm not sure. It was over a couple of years - lots of acupuncture and additional blood tests, 2x iui and 4x natural/mild ivf (so lower drug cost than conventional ivf). Probably 20-30k in total.

TeenPlusTwenties · 23/12/2019 16:22

2 or 3 rounds of fresh, with 2 or 3 goes with frozen ones too. Exact details and price lost in the mists of time as was over 15 years ago now.
And it wasn't successful.

But I did go on to have two lovely DDs by adoption. Smile

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 23/12/2019 16:33

A good friend of mine has spent 80k+ on 10 rounds. 2 successful rounds. 1 sadly ended in miscarriage, the other in her beautiful son.

GlamGiraffe · 23/12/2019 16:40

£17k on two cycles, everything including all prrliminary tests, imaging etc., the drugs then the scans and the actual IVF. Also had two courses of clomid with scans in this time frame too. Included in price.
One ivf Cycle didnt produce good quality embryos, the transferred ones didnt implant.
Second fresh cycle resulted in DD.

GatoFofo · 23/12/2019 16:42

£5k on one private cycle, but that was 16 yrs ago

marmitedreams · 23/12/2019 16:42

1st round 8k
2nd round 8k
3rd round 22k - 1 child
4th round 15k
5th round 15k
6th round 15k
7th round abroad 7k
8th round abroad 11k - twins

Quail15 · 23/12/2019 16:51

2 rounds of Ivf on the NHS. Neither was successful.

One private round (with all the extra tests, genetic testing, endo scratches, etc) totaled around £30,000 - my 13 month old DD was the result.

A lot of this £30,000 was extra tests to find out why I couldn't conceive as the NHS couldn't find a reason. If we could afford to have another round of Ivf it shouldn't cost as much as we now know what is being treated.

I will be paying off my credit cards for a while yet but it was completely worth it.

EstrellaGalicia · 23/12/2019 16:53

I was lucky enough to have 3 rounds of IVF for free on the NHS after ttc for 6 years. I was lucky to fall pregnant on my first round. My daughter is now 6 and a half.

I then fell pregnant naturally two years later with my second daughter which was a complete surprise.

I know how incredibly lucky I am.

Good luck to all those trying. I hope you get your BFP soon. X

Bojangles33 · 23/12/2019 17:09

We were fortunate to qualify for 2 full rounds on the NHS. First round I got 6 embryos, fresh transfer ended in chemical pregnancy, FET resulted in my son. 4 embryos in storage at ~£200 a year

sadwithkiddies · 23/12/2019 17:23

1 nhs cycle.
12 private ivf/fet...
Lucky number 13 resulted in DC Crown Smile....cost £100k
more than I paid for first house Confused
I also have adopted children who were free Wink and wonderful

June340oo · 23/12/2019 18:00

I was entitled to 1 round for free on the NHS and luckily conceived on that round. 3 embryos in the freezer. Currently 34 weeks pregnant with a little boy.

toomuchtooold · 23/12/2019 18:09

10 grand but we had PGD which also means ICSI. Without that would've been about 6. We had twins so that was us done!

justjuggling · 23/12/2019 18:25

Secondary infertility so didn’t qualify for nhs funding. Paid approx £5k at the lister for ivf, but that was 11 years ago so probably more expensive now. Very lucky to be successful on first cycle.
