Help! What books for pre-school twins!

Shamelessly posting here for help!
I'm last minute panic buying Christmas presents today as I finished work yesterday and have not got anything yet!

I want to buy my friend's twins a book each to add to the small gift of chocolate I already have for them.

Twins Boy and girl age 3.5.
A book each!
What would they like?
One with a good story (to be read to them) and nice pictures.

Thank you and AKIABU for leaving it this late (and for asking here).

Anything Julia Donaldson!

InDubiousBattle · 21/12/2019 08:25

Pip and Posy books have been a huge hit in our house.

InDubiousBattle · 21/12/2019 08:26

TK Max often have them cheap!

QueenArseClangers · 21/12/2019 08:26

Tipsy and Tim as they’re twins Wink

wintertime6 · 21/12/2019 08:33

Julia Donaldson or any of the Hugless Douglas range.

Tumbleweed101 · 21/12/2019 08:54

Hairy Maclairie series can be popular.
We’re going on a bear hunt.
Peace at last.
Stick Man.
Gruffalo.
Harry and the dinosaurs.

NannyR · 21/12/2019 09:01

I'd go for something like the Winnie the Witch books by Korki Paul for three year olds, ime most kids have a full set of all the "classics" by that age (Julia donaldson, hungry caterpillar, bear hunt etc). The Winnie books are a bit longer and have more of a story for preschoolers.

BlueSuffragette · 21/12/2019 09:03

Another vote for Stick Man and The Gruffalo.

GottaLoveAnOtter · 21/12/2019 09:06

The Wonkey Donkey!

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 21/12/2019 09:07

My twins love pip and posy too. Julia Donaldson are better written though.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 21/12/2019 09:08

The tiger who came to tea by Judith Kerr and
The snail and the whale by Julia Donaldson are both on tv this Christmas so maybe they would be a good choice.
My little one has always gone a bit mad on the books when she’s seen a tv version of them. I was bloody sick of Zog last year.

Sammy867 · 21/12/2019 09:08

Anything dr Seuss. The language is good and the stories are longer. We collected all the major books. The favourites are Cat in the hat, green eggs and ham and fox in socks.

Mamabear144 · 21/12/2019 09:13

The wonkey donkey.
Animal magic.
Train.
The gruffalo.
The smartest Giant in town.
I Need a Hug.

raviolidreaming · 21/12/2019 09:26

I agree with NannyR - I'd be amazed if they didn't already have the well known children's books. Maybe the Oi Frog range as they're a bit newer?

Jodie77 · 21/12/2019 09:28

Whatever you get remember a gift receipt because books are something people often end up with doubles of!

BikeRunSki · 21/12/2019 09:33

Chances are they might already have the Big Name Julia Donaldson, Hairy McLary, Tiger who came to Tea etc books

I agree with @raviolidreaming that the”Oi!” books are newer and excellent. Also “This is not my hat”. I also love Nick Sherratt’s”Alphabet IceCream” which seems lesser known. Or something for slightly older children like “Where the Wild Things Are”.

claracluck78 · 21/12/2019 09:36

Don't get them Topsy and Tim! We have twins and the last thing ours wanted was a reminder of always being a twin!!!!

RachelEllenR · 21/12/2019 09:37

Car, Car, Truck, Jeep and Go, Go, Pirate Boat are hits here and newer so lots won't have them. I've bought numerous copies as gifts this year!

MinnieMountain · 21/12/2019 09:46

The Little Red Train books.
Owl Babies.
Dogger.
Burglar Bill.

Think back to the first books you enjoyed.

Cremebrule · 21/12/2019 09:50

Something different from the usual Julia Donaldson as I’d be surprised if most children get to 3 without having some of her stuff already. My 3 year old is loving classic fairy tales at the moment. We’ve got a few duplicates but it doesn’t matter as the stories tend to be slightly different as there are so many interpretations.

NannyR · 21/12/2019 09:51

Usborne have some great fact books aimed at preschoolers with lots of flaps to lift if you want something other than a story.
The four year old I look after really loves his mum's old Richard Scarry books (not sure if you can still buy them), daft illustrations that really appeal to a preschoolers sense of humour, lots of things to spot on each page and talk about.

Avebury · 21/12/2019 10:07

The book with no pictures
Where's wally type books - can get them with almost any theme. Try googling 'search and find'
Lots of lovely Christmas books - Melrose and Croc, any Shirley hughes Christmas book, mog Christmas books.

LauraMipsum · 21/12/2019 10:10

Have a look here and you can get a Christmas bundle or a monthly book for them, I think you're probably just in time for Christmas delivery....

RhymingRabbit3 · 21/12/2019 10:21

I wouldnt get Gruffalo or Stick Man - all the 3yo I know have these already. One of the lesser known Julia Donaldson ones such as Tabby McTat or Scarecrow Wedding.

There are two new ones this year - The Smeds and the Smoos, and What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside, so they might be a good choice if you really want a story book.

Otherwise the Usborne Lift the Flap books are great on topics like Opposites, Numbers, ABC. Or a sticker and colouring book. They also do lovely hardback anthologies with traditional stories which make a lovely gift for bedtime stories.

NannyR · 21/12/2019 10:33

You choose by Nick sharratt is a fab book too.
