Help! What books for pre-school twins!

Shamelessly posting here for help!
I'm last minute panic buying Christmas presents today as I finished work yesterday and have not got anything yet!

I want to buy my friend's twins a book each to add to the small gift of chocolate I already have for them.

Twins Boy and girl age 3.5.
A book each!
What would they like?
One with a good story (to be read to them) and nice pictures.

Thank you and AKIABU for leaving it this late (and for asking here).

I agree with PP about trying to stay away from the 'obvious' choices. My 3 year old has all of the Julia Donaldson books and we've already got duplicates. May I suggest the Funnybones books? They've been a hit in our house!

Kitchen Disco and Bathroom Boogie.

Much loved here!

Hoot owl
The dinosaur that pooped
The wild woods
Mr Wolfs pancakes
Wonky donkey and dinky donkey

You have probably bought them now but these are the ones my preschooler likes

My 3 year old has no julia Donaldson books.... if feel neglectful now Xmas Grin

Shirley Hughes (Alfie, Dogger)? I’d steer clear of Gruffalo etc; they’re likely to have it. I also love the personalised Wonderbly books (“What kind of (name) will you be?” etc) but I imagine it’s too late for xmas delivery.

Another vote for Pip and Posy, my 3 year old loves them and my almost 5 year old is still happy to have them read at bed time. You can get a set with 6 of them for 20 pounds online.

I'd give Julia Donaldson a miss unless it's her new ones as they probably have them, but they are less likely to have some of the older classics mentioned above like Peace at Last.

We are massive Supertato fans here. My DS is 5 and he has loved them since he was 3 and they read it in preschool

@QueenArseClangers Awww I used to love reading those books!!!

lobsteroll · 21/12/2019 19:43

What about some Shirley Hughes? Alfie and Annie Rose? Or something a bit different, more of an interactive book like You Choose?

We got a great one recently called The Nature Girls.

Or if you want to go down a Christmassy book route, Pick a Pine Tree is great, and My Naughty Little Sister and Father Christmas

Stompythedinosaur · 21/12/2019 19:48

I'd get them You Choose and Just Imagine. My dc were bloody obsessed with those books.

inwood · 21/12/2019 19:50

I'd get a book token and stick it on a selection box. Then they can decide and discover learning and the joys of bookshops.

LegallyBrunet · 21/12/2019 19:54

Aside from Julia Donaldson my stepson loves The Book With No Pictures, The Day the Crayons Quit, Hairy Mclarey, The Enormous Crocodile and the Mr Men series

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 21/12/2019 20:13

Any of the Peep Inside books. Not many people have heard of them, so less chance they already have them.
They're beautifully drawn lift-the-flap books
