To think ffs my Christmas is now ruined

Had an exhausting year with no time to relax. No holidays or meals out or anything. Very clingy toddler that doesn't sleep well. My ocd/ mental health has been getting worse. So I was really looking forward to Christmas as a chance to relax and have a break. But now I have mild chest pain, sore throat, headache, sore neck. Starting to feel light headed and now my arm muscles ache. Feel really exhausted. I have the flu don't I. I also have asthma so likely to be ill over Christmas. Fuck my luck I feel like crying. It's the cherry on the shit cake of a year

I wouldn’t assume it’s the flu. Try to use it as a chance to have a couple of days resting now and hopefully it clears quickly

SingingLily · 18/12/2019 15:06

I'm really sorry, Tiger. You must be worn out. Do you have anyone in RL who can help out? Family or friends who can give you a hand?

Stegosaurus1990 · 18/12/2019 15:07

You’ll be fine by Christmas.

CalmFizz · 18/12/2019 15:08

Don’t go into it thinking you have the flu, think of it as coming down with sniffles.

Have a nice lemon and honey drink, paracetamol and ibuprofen can be taken together, some throat sweets.

Don’t wish yourself more ill than you are.

Drum2018 · 18/12/2019 15:11

Get some ibuprofen into you and have paracetemol later on. Take plenty of fluids and go to bed. A hot whiskey before bed with lemon/honey might help sweat it out of you.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/12/2019 15:12

If you convince yourself you have flu and will be ill for weeks, you will be

Is baby's dad around? Can he shoulder more load so you can rest properly for a few days, hot lemon, meds etc, ton of sleep?

Winterdaysarehere · 18/12/2019 15:14

I have asthma and felt like you op. It was a short lived virus. Paracetamol, lot of hot drinks and early nights.

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 18/12/2019 15:16

Hi OP

I felt like this a couple of weeks ago. It literally hurt to breathe, the effort of breathing in really hurt my chest muscles. My skin was sore from my clothes rubbing on them. I had a temperature and a splitting headache and felt lightheaded and a bit sick and just needed to be in bed. I felt exactly the same as when I had the flu 2 years ago so was convinced it was flu again (only difference was my temp was a bit lower - 38.5 instead of 39.5 when I had flu). 3 days later, it had gone, so I'm pretty sure it wasnt the flu, or if it was, it was a very mild version. Don't despair!

dognamedspot · 18/12/2019 15:16

I've felt like that in the past, dosed myself up, gone to bed early and woken up the next morning feeling fine.

MIdgebabe · 18/12/2019 15:17

Asthma, you may want to avoid the ibu?
May wish to adjust your background medication in line with your asthma plan?
Find some way to rest as much as possible
And you are not the only one :-( it is so not fair

EnglishRose1320 · 18/12/2019 15:19

I have this now, GP says it's a virus but it's aggravating my asthma so has given me steroids. Apparently lots of upper respiratory tract infections and throat infections around.

Discustard · 18/12/2019 15:22

Loads of bugs going round. On my 3rd one now in less than 3 months. Take it easy on yourself, it's probably not flu but these things always clear up quicker if you let them pass and don't push too hard.

TigerAtTheZoo · 18/12/2019 15:27

Yeah baby's dad is around but he is busy with work. They have barely given him any holiday this year (a couple of days and Easter Friday to Monday) and he has been given a talk to plan over Christmas for a conference at the start of January. Plus more on top of that. He is also stressed and doesn't have much free time. More, stressed than I am. My parents help out sometimes and have taken time of work to help while my husband was away for work. But they live 60 miles away. My husbands entire family has been zero help since dc was born and just try to pile on the stress with demands on our small amount of free time.

If you have asthma have you not had a flu jab ? . Dose yourself up regularly and you will be likely be fine by Christmas .

Cornish2 · 18/12/2019 15:32

It might be worth investing in the flu jab, I do as I have 2 pre-schoolers and it would be a nightmare for me.
Obviously it's too late if that's what you have now so hopefully it's not but it's well worth thinking about.

TigerAtTheZoo · 18/12/2019 15:34

No flu jabs available at any of my local gp's as they said there was a shortage and it's only for over 65's. I should have paid for one I guess.

Night nurse is your friend.
Get some today.
Dose up on lemsips and honey during the day.
Vicks may also help with your breathing.
Not just on your chest but rub it on the soles of your feet as well.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/12/2019 15:36

DS2 (12) has had something similar. Burning up with fever on Sat night, coughing, nosebleeds, vomiting, even his hair hurt! He is a lot lot better today and will probably be fully recovered tomorrow.

TheReluctantCountess · 18/12/2019 15:37

I recommend echinacea tablets - take them as soon as you start to feel ill.

MurrayTheMonk · 18/12/2019 15:37

I feel similar to that today. But half of DD's school is off with the same thing and lots of people at work. It's a virus doing the rounds and not proper flu I don't think.
Wrap up warm, plenty of hot drinks, paracetamol and ibuprofen and rest. You'll be ok.
Sorry you've had a shitty year.

Backtoreality1 · 18/12/2019 15:42

If you are on here typing, then you don't have flu. Sounds like you are rundown and need to get some vitamin C and sleep. Hope you feel better soon.

Mickhasnotorso · 18/12/2019 15:43

Backtoreality1 what a load of shit.

FurForksSake · 18/12/2019 15:43

If you are a chronic asthmatic (preventer needed) then get a flu jab at boots if you can't at gp. You fill in a form and then you don't have to pay.

Feel better, be as positive as possible, you've got time to get better.

DarlingNikita · 18/12/2019 15:44

More likely just a bug. Dose up and try to get a couple of early nights. Xmas is ages away!

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 18/12/2019 15:45

When you say your arm muscles ache, do you mean both arms or one?
