To think ffs my Christmas is now ruined

Had an exhausting year with no time to relax. No holidays or meals out or anything. Very clingy toddler that doesn't sleep well. My ocd/ mental health has been getting worse. So I was really looking forward to Christmas as a chance to relax and have a break. But now I have mild chest pain, sore throat, headache, sore neck. Starting to feel light headed and now my arm muscles ache. Feel really exhausted. I have the flu don't I. I also have asthma so likely to be ill over Christmas. Fuck my luck I feel like crying. It's the cherry on the shit cake of a year

OP posts:
KellyHall · 18/12/2019 17:14

I got my flu jab for free at a pharmacy, I am 35 with asthma.

KellyHall · 18/12/2019 17:14

Hopefully if you're ill now, you'll be all better by Christmas 🤶

Drabarni · 18/12/2019 17:16

It's a week until Christmas, I'd say you sound really anxious and the illness is due to this.

Zoflorabauble · 18/12/2019 17:18

I feel really unwell to and I have fibromyalgia, anxiety and OCD. Everything hurts me and I can’t stop crying because our Christmas is going to be awful due to having recently being moved to UC due to ds (16) going from high rate DLA to getting zero points on PIP ( we are appealing of course ).

I have totally taken for granted every single Christmas when I’ve been able to get my dc what they’ve asked for and more, not worried about anything and have never felt so bloody alone, despite having “family” who won’t help us in any way.

Earlier on I saw an advert for I think it was The Salvation Army which highlighted the plight of the homeless at Christmas which set me off again as I felt ashamed when we do have a roof over our heads and beds to sleep in.

There’s always someone worse off. Not easy to think about when you feel rubbish but it’s true.

My thinking is I would rather be sick this week than next.

Christmastreejoy · 18/12/2019 17:19

If it was flu I think you would be struggling to post tbh. We all stayed in bed for nearly a week when it hit us last year!

Bluerussian · 18/12/2019 17:25

I hope you are dosing yourself up, Tiger.

Keep fluid levels up and stay in the warm. Comfort food only and plenty of sleep.

There's a week to go before Christmas and hopefully you'll feel better then.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 18/12/2019 17:25

I hope you feel better soon and it's not as bad as you're anticipating.

As an aside, if your partner is an employee, his employer HAS to give him ALL of his statutory holiday.

goose1964 · 18/12/2019 17:33

If you're down here there is a bug going on which is leading to nasty chest infections. I've been the least ill but even my chest hurts when breathing, DS is just starting to feel better after starting antibiotics.

Didiplanthis · 18/12/2019 17:34

I'm quite sure your GP surgery knows asthma patients get the flu vaccine. Not enough was made and they werent given enough to go round of the under 65 one. Following previous posters advice to go in Waving NHS guidelines and demanding is not going to magic up a vaccine they haven't got and cant get... or make you feel any better.

BrendasUmbrella · 18/12/2019 17:40

Do everything possible to help yourself rest and relax. Maybe your body can fight it off. Lemon and ginger drinks, vitamin c, hot baths, etc.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/12/2019 17:44

They have barely given him any holiday this year (a couple of days and Easter Friday to Monday) what kind of place does he work, they can't just refuse to let him take holiday. Are you sure he just hasn't taken it or has i t but lied?

hifolks · 18/12/2019 17:59

Low mood?

Interestedwoman · 18/12/2019 18:04

Probably just a cold, god willing.

'No flu jabs available at any of my local gp's as they said there was a shortage and it's only for over 65s.'

If you have a diagnosis of asthma, you're in an at risk group and are eligible.

mumwon · 18/12/2019 18:11

although gps maybe out its worth checking with chemists because you have asthma you are entitled to a free flu jab well your well check with them - by the way the over 65 jab is different from the one younger people have

LipstickTaserrr · 18/12/2019 18:16

I paid 12.99 for mine done at boots today. Ring local pharmacies and ask if they have any in stock.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 18/12/2019 18:18

You'll be fine by Christmas as you've got it so early

mumwon · 18/12/2019 18:19

the over 65 is a stronger dosage (because their immunity is weaker & for 3 versions of flu younger people's flu jab is for 4 versions of flu) I had along chat with chemist over this - Boots had a supply of vaccinations before our gp & they were free for our age group - if you are within the category that needs flu jabs Boots will do it for free - if they have the type that you need nb some dc have been delayed too. Apparently WHO (the world health organisation) recognised that a severe Australian out break in their winter was a different type from the one they researched as most likely - so the decision on the variety of flu they needed to vaccinate for/against came later than normal -

HowDoYouLikeThoseSuedeApples · 18/12/2019 19:01

Here’s a click link to Boots in case it is a short term virus. You could book ( or check the lead in times for appts in your area ) In the list read under lungs -if you take preventer inhalers looks like you are covered. I hope you feel better soon. Hydrating, medicating and an early night if at all possible. Flowers Hope you feel better soon. www.boots.com/health-pharmacy-advice/vaccinations/flujab

If you are on here typing, then you don't have flu. Sounds like you are rundown and need to get some vitamin C and sleep.

Nonsense. As has been shown on many occasions, there is scientific and medical research which shows that you can have flu with a range of symptoms. You can even have flu with no or very little symptoms.

You cannot tell if someone has flu just be hearing what they say they feel like either.

The OP may have a cold, they may have flu or they may have some other virus. Any of these could affect the OP in a variety of ways and to varying extents.

MitziK · 18/12/2019 19:06

Got my flu jab in September (from the chemist, just told them the medication I was on and they did it there and then for me and DP) and have been looking after lots of kids with flu over the last couple of weeks. Not caught it, though.

Unless they have simultaneously caught something else - the cough/chest infection/tonsillitis that's going round, or the tummy bug - they've all been back after 5 days.

Which gives you plenty of time for Christmas even if you felt really awful (which you obviously don't from your own description).

Ffsseriously · 18/12/2019 19:18

Everyone who is saying rubbish she may have flu it all depends, you can have flu with barley any symptoms. This may be true but if the op has a mild version of flu then there is nothing to be getting worked up about I would think.

Ffsseriously · 18/12/2019 19:19

Barely

Aragog · 18/12/2019 19:28

No flu jabs available at any of my local gp's as they said there was a shortage and it's only for over 65's. I should have paid for one I guess.

No need to pay. Just go to a pharmacist and ask for one. Tell them you don't pay for one because of your asthma. I always have mine at a local pharmacists as I struggle with the GP timings, due to work. Mine is free. I pay for DD's.

allthesharks · 18/12/2019 19:30

I've heard a few times that if you have flu you wouldn't be able to lift your head off the pillow or function at all really. But what about if you have absolutely no choice to do things? I think I had flu last year and I felt like absolute death. But I had no choice but to get on with things as I'm a single mum and had no one else to help do certain things. I had to drag myself out of bed to collect my daughter from school. I was late and I cried all the way because I felt so awful, but I did get there. Does that mean it wasn't flu because I was physically able to drag myself out of bed? I'm not being antagonistic, I'm genuinely curious if actual flu would make you completely incapable of doing something like that.

Janedownourlane · 18/12/2019 19:35

Echo-ing the above, go to Boots, they will do it for free and notify your GP for you. You dont pay if you are asthmatic.
Hopefully it will be a quick passing virus,
Good Luck.
