Of all the things to remake who decided to make this!
It was creepy the first time as a child (many many years of nightmares)
Why would anyone want to watch a sinister scarecrow with multiple personality disorder, hardly festive.
What next? Freddy Krueger and Mr Tumble do Lapland?

YABU = Worzel is lovely and Aunt Sally a feminist icon.
YANBU = it was terrifying then and we should never EVER revisit it.
fucking scary scruffy bastard

I bought a friend a Worzel doll. He had spare interchangeable heads. His "thinkin' 'ead" had a mortar board on it!! We loved it and used to take it to the pub with us. Happy days. Looking forward to the remake.

Iirc Lucy he even had an evil head (possibly made that up)

Oh my goodness, I've just had horrible flashbacks, I'd forgotten all about the different heads Shock

TheQueef · 18/12/2019 10:13

Only if they get cumberbatch in to play it real serious

krustykittens · 18/12/2019 10:20

I loved Worzel! I remember being very disappointed my mum wouldn't buy me the doll that came with a range of heads!

NymphInYellow · 18/12/2019 10:27

I met Worzel as a child

Rumnraisin · 18/12/2019 10:30

Yep I did recoil when I saw the ad for the remake ha ha! I was really sensitive to anything that could be deemed weird - bagpuss, Sesame Street, loads of other 80’s weird shit including Wurzel of course. Hope the remake is less...weird! Grin

LoseLooseLucy · 18/12/2019 10:32

Haha, I also remember being terrified of Willow the Wisp when I was young, I've never dared watch it since Xmas Grin

HowlsMovingBungalow · 18/12/2019 10:37

About as sinister as Catweazel - leave it in the past I say!.

MashedChristmasPud · 18/12/2019 10:42

I loved it. Brew Cake

Not sure how the remake will be.

magicstar1 · 18/12/2019 10:42

I can't click on either of your options. Yes A was right, but that was the old Worzel, not the new one. The new one is creepy as hell!

AuntImmortelle · 18/12/2019 10:46

Apparently new Worzel doesn't change heads and Aunt Sally is his actual aunt. It's following the original book more closely. Heard Mackenzie Crook on the radio this morning. I did used to find it scary when I was younger but strangely still watched it (sucker for punishment obviously).

FthisS · 18/12/2019 10:48

My children 9 and 7 love the original worzel they watch it all the time and read the books after H introduced them (yeah cheers for that). I have to leave the room I can't even hear his voice just the thought of him scares me. I had such nightmares as a child because of him.

Patroclus · 18/12/2019 10:52

nout will ever be as fucked up as Round the Tiwst

BlastEndedSkrewt · 18/12/2019 10:59

I loved it as a child but no idea why as it's very weird.

I will be watching the new one

AugustRose · 18/12/2019 11:00

I absolutely loved Worzel! I was given a Worzel annual one christmas and my favourite page was the one with him sitting on hay bales surrounded by all his heads Grin It was a bit weird but maybe I was a weird child.

Not sure about the remake as I haven't seen anything about it, I'll have to check it out.

mrswhiplington · 18/12/2019 11:15

I loved Worzel. I still use his catchphrase "I'll have a cup o' tea and a slice o' cake" when I go into cafes.Grin I remember he used to have birds nesting in his stomach. I was probably quite a bit older than some of you when I watched it as it never scared me. I've seen clips of the remake and I'm not impressed. His face looks like it's made of rubber.

UnfoundSense · 18/12/2019 12:41

Worzel doesn't change his head in this version - He didn't in the books either, which is what this version is more closely related to.

Also, he's a scarecrow. He's meant to appear unsettling.

bialystockandbloom · 18/12/2019 12:42

You're right OP, creepy af

nowaypose · 18/12/2019 12:43

Perfect job for Boris anyway. He's not doing anything more important is he?

Grin
jellyfrizz · 18/12/2019 12:49

I loved Worzel Gummidge as a kid but was a little bit scared when he changed his head.

The evil turnip head was absolutely terrifying.
