To think 19 isn't too cold for heating

DH is constantly turning the heating up saying he feels cold. Any more than 19 and I get too warm, but he would prefer 22, night and day. I only wear leggings and a t/shirt, he will wear a couple of layers and still complain. We use a summer duvet, we have it set at 20.5 as the compromise but neither of us are comfortable with that temp. What temp do you think is reasonable. It's a new build that retains heat very well.

I would feel absolutely stifled at 22. Ours is at 19 for a couple of hours morning and evening and then off completely otherwise.

FixTheBone · 17/12/2019 20:25

18.5 or 19 depending on how draughty it is.

Kokothecow · 17/12/2019 20:28

21

tequilasunrises · 17/12/2019 20:29

Our heating isn’t on and the smart meter says it’s 15 degrees. I’m not cold at all! I do take a hot water bottle to bed though as I hate getting into a cold bed!

redandwhite1 · 17/12/2019 20:33

I'm always cold but ours is set to 19 and I find that about right but I do still wear a few layers

CaptainPovey · 17/12/2019 20:35

My husband is unwell and we have the heating on whatever he wants.

We turn it off when I am too hot and the window is always open in the bedroom with the radiator off

We are all different

73Sunglasslover · 17/12/2019 20:36

For me 19 is too cold. At around 21 I need to wear a long sleeve top, jumper and big thick slipper boots. Your house would be far too cold for me and if I came over I'd want to keep my coat and scarf on. We set ours between 21 and 22. 18 at night.

TooleyVanDooley · 17/12/2019 20:38

I have 23.5 during the day, and 19 overnight

nocoolnamesleft · 17/12/2019 20:40

18.5 here.

bridgetreilly · 17/12/2019 20:45

In winter it should be set at a level where it's comfortable to wear a jumper, and in summer (if you have AC) at a level where it's comfortable to wear a t-shirt.

Danni12 · 17/12/2019 20:49

In winter
21 in the day and 18 at night

SinglePringle · 17/12/2019 20:55

19 all day and evening. Then down to 18 overnight.

I hate being too hot and am slightly dreading Christmas at my parents where a) the thermostat will be set to 24 and b) the log burner will be roaring. All whilst I swelter cooking a roast no-one likes or wants (a whole other thread!)

MidnightCircus · 17/12/2019 20:58

I'd freeze at 19 personally! I'm practically a corpse though (people hate shaking hands with me because my hands are so cold), so maybe not the best judge. My heating is set at 21 (apparently), but I'm currently fully dressed under a 12.5 tog quilt, and still not warm. In your case, I'd recommend two quilts at night, no point you both being uncomfortable.

apples24 · 17/12/2019 21:01

Ours is set to 18. Occasionally we put it to 20 for a bit of coziness. But normally 18 as we use oil and don't want to spend a fortune, I'm also conscious of emission, husband less so.

StinkyXmasCheese · 17/12/2019 21:05

I keep my bedroom at 25. I cosleep with my baby and only a sheet on the bed though.

cultmaskid · 17/12/2019 21:07

I would freezing!!

Our house is 24 degrees all year even in summer heating is on

But I like my bedroom cold about 21 degrees at night

Isithometimeyet0987 · 17/12/2019 21:08

Mine is set to 22 and the underfloor heating to 25, I’d rather it be to warm and have to turn it off for a while than to cold.

SwampOfDeath · 17/12/2019 21:09

Interesting! Ours is set for 18, and we have the heating on for 45 mins in the morning from 6.30 and 45 mins in the afternoon, at 16:00. In between, the temperature might drop to 16-17, but that's OK, we just keep busy.
We stayed in a holiday cottage in November where the thermostat was set to 22, and we were definitely too warm.

Aramox · 17/12/2019 21:10

Mine’s at 18, off all night. I feel immoral having it on any higher - that’s what jumpers are for!

PurpleFrames · 17/12/2019 21:17

Mines at 20 now, will go to 17 while sleeping. Max 22 if I have a lot of washing to dry and I'd open a window then to ventilate

joystir59 · 17/12/2019 21:17

18 here and its cosy

ManiacalLapwing · 17/12/2019 21:17

Mine's set to 17, on in the evening until 9pm, off overnight, then on again from 5 to 7am.

maddiemookins16mum · 17/12/2019 21:19

Anything over 20 here is too hot.

ManiacalLapwing · 17/12/2019 21:20

7.5 tog duvets on the bed in winter, 4 tog in summer.

dontmesswiththeGC · 17/12/2019 21:25

If your heating is set at 19 I'm not sure you can say you're always cold! Mine's on 24 mornings and evenings and I'm wearing winter pyjamas, a fleece dressing gown and ugg slippers. Before I get into bed I put my electric blanket on to warm it up. I'm fully aware I'm colder than the average person, I would be shivering on the sofa if my heating was below 21. Just putting on an extra layer doesn't do it, I get cold to the bone and my nose suffers first. Thank god my DH doesn't complain and just takes off a layer if he's warm. I couldn't imagine suffering in the cold in my own house, the heating is worth every penny.
