To give £100 Xmas bonus to cleaner

AlorMy · 17/12/2019 16:36

Usually pay her £25 a week.

She’s been cleaning my home about 8 months so first Xmas.

I’m thinking of £100. Is that too much? Not enough?

YABU = too little
YANBU = anything else (just right/too much)

Self employed cleaner here

I've been at a client for over 5 years and she normally gives me a tin of quality streets, this year I got a fiver, so I'd be chuffed with £100.
One gives me a weeks wage most give £10. I personalĺy think a fivers a bit shit but eh ho. I'm thinking about sacking her actually Grin

Freesunglasses · 18/12/2019 20:41

If any of you generous posters need a good reliable, honest cleaner I'd be prepared to travel!

Freesunglasses · 18/12/2019 20:58

And just to add, I think it's too much, I'd feel a little embarrassed. If she's still with you next year give her more but its early days.
I cleaned for a couple for years. The first year they gave me a small hamper, second year, a bigger hamper, third year I got holiday vouchers for £200! Lovely generous couple.

CharlottesPleb · 18/12/2019 20:59

It's a lot, but do it if you can, you will make her day, maybe even her Christmas, you wonderful mner you.

Sittingonthedockofthe · 18/12/2019 21:01

I pay my cleaner £10 an hour for 4 hours - I gave her £40 for Christmas bonus. I do also ask her to come in even when we are on holiday as well, to minimize weeks that she doesnt have work, so think that a week's wage as xmas present is enough.

Merryoldgoat · 18/12/2019 21:12

We love our cleaner - she makes life so much easier and she’s very nice to be around which is important as I’m often home with sick kids unexpectedly and need to be comfortable at home. We pay £30 for about 2-2.5 hours. We are paying her for the week she’ll miss plus £50 so I think £100 seems very nice.

Northernsoullover · 18/12/2019 21:15

I've had loads of chocolate and a tenner so far. I've still a few clients to see so I'm hoping you are one of them OP Grin

whatsyaname · 18/12/2019 21:17

I think I asked this a couple of years ago too ( name changed since) but generally they said one weeks pay. I had two cleaners for one hour £30, so decided to give £20 each I felt £15 was a bit mean, plus a chocolate reindeer. Then one quit straight after Xmas, and left one cleaner who wasn't the better one. I felt a bit silly I'd given them anything after that. The one cleaner did carry on for me, but wasn't really brilliant on her own, plus it took longer. So what I'm saying is don't expect their loyalty just because you give a bonus, I'm not saying they quit due to the bonus amount, but to give £100 and then they stop working for you would be annoying.

ChristmasVag · 18/12/2019 21:46

DH bought the cleaner a laptop and a bottle of chanel.

Cleaner has been slacking off recently, however, and has eaten every box of quality street that's walked through the door.

What to do?

Onelovelyone · 18/12/2019 23:30

I think that’s lovely and shows that you really value her work. She will be self employed and, if you can afford it, I would go with that. You will make her day!

Caplin · 18/12/2019 23:41

I give £50, but if I could afford £100 I would as she is great

msmith501 · 18/12/2019 23:48

How can it be good or bad? If you want to give your cleaner £100, then do it. There is no right or wrong. Your cleaner... your reward decision.

FloppyBiffAndChip · 18/12/2019 23:59

Oh wow! Please give £100! That's amazing and will very possibly change her whole Christmas and make her week/month/year! I wish I'd cleaned for you back in my cleaning days ...

Christmasgifts · 19/12/2019 00:01

We gave our cleaner £80 last week and she cried! She was so grateful and actually said it was the first bonus she'd ever had. She is worth it though as she has genuinely changed my life! I hate cleaning and I love my home so much when she's been. It encourages us to keep on top of it in between and dh and I don't find ourselves stressed on a weekend, trying to clean on top of kids' activities etc.
We aren't rich by any means but I don't spend a lot on myself so paying for a cleaner is my treat to myself. Dh is great around the house but works very long hours and the pressure she takes off us is worth every penny.
I want her to feel appreciated because:
A) she's lovely and does a great job
B) I don't want her to ever leave us!

Ocomeocomeimaginaryfleas · 19/12/2019 05:42

If you do, you’ll have to do it every year. £50 sounds fine to me but I also think you will reap the benefits of your generosity as she’ll put you to the top of her favourite client list, so it’s your call. What a lovely bonus for her though!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/12/2019 05:48

Have you got any vacancies. I’ll come and clean for youXmas Grin

PigeonInTheLoft · 19/12/2019 06:23

I've been to half of my houses this week. I've had one box of roses. My week off is my present to myself.

Same here. Except I've gone for a full two wks off. I've heard on the grapevine at least two of my clients aren't happy about that and think I'm being unfair to leave them that long without a clean.

I was starting to feel guilty, but having read this thread it's been eye-opening to realise just how taken for granted and under-appreciated I am.... so fuck 'em!

And my prices will be going up in the new year!

NanooCov · 19/12/2019 06:35

I pay my cleaner about £25 a week. At Christmas, I pay her as usual, give her a £50 bonus and also a small gift of chocs and wine as I don't like to just give cash.

pinkyboots1 · 19/12/2019 06:48

I think it's a lovely thought and as long as you can comfortably afford it then go for it.... I'm sure she'll be delighted

Surfskatefamily · 19/12/2019 07:03

If I was your cleaner I'd be very happy with £25 totally over the moon with £50.

TheGlitterFairy · 19/12/2019 07:10

£50 here in a card

boomboom1234 · 19/12/2019 07:12

My cleaner is paid £35 every other week. For Xmas I gave her a nice box of biscuits and £40 cash in a card.

Aglet · 19/12/2019 07:29

If she is a really good cleaner, yes.

Marbles321 · 19/12/2019 07:36

I think that's fine if you can afford it! We give our cleaner a similar bonus - she works extremely hard and makes our lives so much easier so to me it's money well spent.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 19/12/2019 08:03

We pay our cleaner £25 a week. It was her last visit before Christmas yesterday. We gave her a box of biscuits and £50. I guess effectively we pay her for the two weeks over Christmas that she doesn't work. She gives us a present in return! She's lovely.
