WIBU to pull a sicky tomorrow?

I'm a teacher in a secondary school, it's the last week of term tomorrow so very close to the holidays.

I'm 25 weeks pregnant, have terrible sciatica bought on by the pregnancy and not helped by charging about after our two year old all day, I'm getting really bad headaches and have one since waking up today. I'm exhausted, achey, and tonight I've had an upset tummy too. I don't think it's anything I've eaten, just feeling run down and exhausted. I've got so much marking to get done for Thursday, im stressing about that, too.

Would it be awful to phone in sick tomorrow, drop DS at childcare, and have a day in bed watching tele and catching up with marking?

I don't know what id say to work, I don't really have a single ailment, just bloody knackered.

Definitely say you are sick for a pregnancy-related reason. Pregnant women have legal protection, they are covered by the Equality Act and your employer should be aware of this. It is expected that pregnant women take more sick time than usual and this can't be counted against you.

Maternity leave starts automatically only if you are off sick due to pregnancy within 4 weeks of your due date - so at 25 weeks this won't be an issue either.

I thought by the title you worked in retail pulling a sicky to avoid the rush.
It is the best time of year to have a sick day as a Teacher.
Enjoy your rest.

I don't understand this comment. The OP is clearly not feeling well and should take a day off , surely, regardless of what their profession is?

My midwife at my doctors only works on Thursdays, if I wanted to speak to someone about my headaches before that, do I just book a normal GP appointment?

I've woken up with terrible headache again this morning Sad

You're not pulling a sickie. You're ill. Phone your community midwives office (number should be on your maternity notes or ask the hospital switchboard or GP). They may see you or may ask you to see your GP.

LividLaughLove · 16/12/2019 07:23

Do you have a triage number on the front of your notes?

Phone them!

cherrytree63 · 16/12/2019 07:24

Ring the hospital you're booked in with to speak to a midwife to see if you need to visit the day unit for a check up.

Livebythecoast · 16/12/2019 07:26

Ring your Doctor's when they open. Explain you're pregnant and experiencing headaches and want your BP checked. Take a urine sample to the appointment too. GP can check for protein in your wee.
Hope you feel better soon.

eaglejulesk · 16/12/2019 07:32

You sound ill to me, so yes, take the day off and also get checked out. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

knocknockgryffindor · 16/12/2019 08:05

I phoned the number on my pregnancy notes, the midwife said that at 25 weeks it's too early for ore eclampsia. I should take paracetamol and if it is a blood pressure headache then paracetamol will have no effect and so to call back in and hour or so and see if it has made it better.

Phone your GP and get an emergency appointment - a lingering headache in pregnancy is not something to be ignored.

Livebythecoast · 16/12/2019 08:14

I would still try and get a GP appointment and get you BP checked to be on the safe side

How are you getting on OP?
