Am I being unreasonable takeaway driver gave ripped £5.00. When I said to change it he's walked away. I've contacted the takeaway and asked them to change it. But seriously think they knew about the money and tried to get rid off it. Am I getting angry about nothing

OP posts:

If its ripped (torn, not cut) it is a fake and if you take it to the bank they will seize it not replace it.

Why is it a fake if it's torn?

snowybaubles · 13/12/2019 22:12

OP you are being ridiculous.

Angie6868 · 13/12/2019 22:13

Bloody hell. . What's the problem? You're being ridiculous. Would you like him to iron it for you as well?

Wildorchidz · 13/12/2019 22:15

Words fail me
Are people really this helpless???

TrixieFranklin · 13/12/2019 22:31

I wish this was the biggest of my problems.

Sparklesocks · 13/12/2019 22:39

It’s still legal tender, as others have said you can sellotape it together or ask for a replacement at your bank

LouisaJenny · 13/12/2019 22:43

YABVVVVVU 😂

Ontheboardwalk · 13/12/2019 22:43

It’s a 12 mile round trip to my bank. I ain’t going there for a ripped £5 note

I am intrigued on how you can rip one of the new £5 notes! Saying that I got a dodgy very rippled one earlier so maybe they aren’t that robust?

Swirlygirl · 13/12/2019 22:44

How ripped is it? I’ve been turned away before with a sellop taped noted.

So yeah I’d be a bit miffed

Swirlygirl · 13/12/2019 22:47

Also when I had my car washed I was given a £5 note in three bits some bits not even touching each other! It got handed straight back!

Stressedout10 · 13/12/2019 22:49

Really 🤣
My ddog (when a puppy) chewed up dds xmas money we just took it to the bank and swapped it no problem didn't even have all the parts you just need 75% of the note

Khione · 13/12/2019 23:21

so long as you have the whole note it doesn't matter if it's in half a dozen pieces. There can even be some small pieces missing, so long as the serial numbers are intact and readable

Notverycreatiive · 13/12/2019 23:34

Why are you angry? Do you complain about the ripped paper notes too?

To the poster who says it's fake if it's ripped.. you're nuts.

I work for a company that develops and maintains machinery used in the authentication and sorting process of notes. Our machines are used by the BOE to detect counterfeit notes.

Polymer notes definitely do rip and they are still classed as legal tender.. same as paper notes.

Witchend · 13/12/2019 23:44

I had a ripped one the other day. Was taken fine at whatever shop I was in.

happycamper11 · 14/12/2019 08:03

Err just spend it next time you need to purchase something. What a strange reaction

OneKeyAtATime · 14/12/2019 08:10

What country are you in? It s still legal tender in the UK , which is why you are getting such responses

DirtyTicket · 14/12/2019 08:19

That's shocking, OP. What did the police say?

Alloftheboys · 14/12/2019 08:25

Call Paw Patrol immediately!

Gardai · 14/12/2019 08:29

Was the takeaway nice ?

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 14/12/2019 08:32
Hmm
snowybaubles · 14/12/2019 08:46

Surely you would just hang on to it until next time you did go near the bank?

Ontheboardwalk · 14/12/2019 08:54

snowy I’d lose or forget about it by the next time I headed that side of town

Naz024 I think you should order another takeaway tonight and pay for it with the dodgy fiver

NoSauce · 14/12/2019 08:57

This is not something to get angry at OP.

MashedSpud · 14/12/2019 09:00

Our drivers don’t even give you change. It’s either have the correct amount or pay online.

Notjustamum28 · 14/12/2019 09:41

I work in a bank, the new notes rip, tear, melt, shrivel like a crisp packet etc! They are not indestructable! All it takes is a tiny nick in the plastic and the whole note will tear.
All still very much legal and all will be swapped for you by your bank!
