Friend coming for Christmas who has recently turned omnivorous

Now, I am not one of those vegans who can't contemplate a meal with no veg, but I have a friend who's recently turned omnivorous and I have no clue what to give them for Christmas lunch.

I looked at the omnivore aisle at the supermarket but I have no experience of preparing omnivore food. WIBU to make a chicken risotto, as I'm not sure if omnivores eat potatoes and veg. Can they have mushroom en croute?

TO be honest I think it's just a fad.

I enjoyed it OP.Crown Grin

I'm vegetarian and my MIL has spent the last 8 years repetitively asking DH what to cook a vegetarian.

"Does she eat eggs?!"

Waitrosescheapestvodka · 13/12/2019 18:01

..and I do, but she's never used eggs anyway.

While I like how you have turned it around, the opposite of a vegan would be someone who only eats animal products. I'm an omnivore and would have no problem eating vegan if I was staying with one for a month! If you have a vegan or vegetarian stay then you did need to know what they are or aren't happy to eat as it does vary between individuals, or else just go strict vegan perhaps unnecessarily.

A bucket full of pigs in blankets, perfect!

@Waitrosescheapestvodka that's the best user name I've seen on mumsnet! Bravo!

Boshmama · 13/12/2019 18:54

Love it - I wouldn't let an Omni come to be honest, so inconsiderate of them

dontmentionbookclub · 13/12/2019 19:19

Ask them to bring their own food and cook it separately. Or just lie - they won't be able to tell the difference. Grin

So I could serve beet bourguignon and they won't know it's not beef Grin

Ah, rapier wit.
Unfortunately, it's the kind where the rapier is held by the point and the handle is used as a blunt weapon.

I don't understand why so many people took agin this thread. I thought it was an amusing take on the usual "Eek! Vegans/vegetarians at Christmas - help!".

I'm not a vegan/vegetarian but don't gibber at the prospect of catering for them either.

Sorry OP for the sense of humour failure. Only there were so many silly trolling posts yesterday this one came across as the same.

As you were ...
