AIBU to move home to Scotland?

I’m Scottish, my DH is English and we have two young Welsh DC. We are currently in a position to think about moving and I really want to move home but my DH is worried about how it will be in Scotland over the next few years. We met at Uni in Scotland so he has lived there before and he loves the country but is worried about bad feeling towards the English now that Scotland will be ramping up towards another referendum.

Politically we are left wing and are gutted by the result today. It has certainly made me even more likely to want to move.
My hometown where I would like to move back to is near a big city and has a pretty mixed population so I don’t think it would be much of a problem. What do you think?

Thanks

Oil drilling is going to have to stop soon due to climate change. That is the only resource Scotland has apart from whisky. So what exactly are we going to trade in an isolated position where we are cut off from the rest of the UK and may or may not be in Europe?
Particularly if we have a different currency from the rest of the UK.

Come home!

There is anti-English sentiment in some people, there’s no point denying it. However I think since devolution attitudes have changed a lot and there’s more awareness in where frustrations are really stemming from - ie the political system, not the English people. I think people from England are the biggest ‘incomer’ group by quite some margin and many are living quite happily, are politically engaged and are constantly battling against the idea that we’re all running around banging on about Braveheart all the time - we’re evidently not, so I wonder about the perpetuation of that. The insistence that Scotland is some anti-English hellhole is in itself a damaging stereotype and quite sinister on a political level. As are half the posts on this thread that amount to the old soundbite ‘too wee, too poor, too stupid’.

The sport thing is rubbish. ‘The English’ do not automatically support Scotland. Scots don’t automatically not support England. Who cares, it’s sport.

@Sort of Yes Scotland does have dairy and cattle herds, and fish in rapidly diminishing stocks. Oil and gas are supposed to be being phased out due to climate change.Renewable sources are the way to go. Nicola Sturgeon had to admit this in a recent debate on climate change.

Coal is also not a renewable source and contributes to climate change.

My DH is English and has lived here for 6/7 years. He would very much be a yes vote if there was a second referendum now. He's also never had anyone be anti-English towards him, other than a bit of joking about the World Cup! There are a lot of English people living and working quite happily in Scotland. It's certainly not unusual at all where I live.

I've also literally never heard anyone talk about Bannockburn other than in history lessons and I've lived in Scotland my whole life (I'm 34) Confused I've lived in three Scottish cities, east and west, so I don't even know if it could be some sort of weird regional thing.

@SunsetBoulevard3 - .Renewable sources are the way to go. Nicola Sturgeon had to admit this in a recent debate on climate change

Renewable energy is a key part of the SNP manifesto and Scotland is a recognised leader in renewable energy. Forced to admit..Smile?

Record-breakers: Scottish wind farms deliver power equivalent to 98 per cent of demand

Scotland's fleet of onshore and offshore wind farms set another record last month, providing enough clean power for nearly five million homes

Where in the UK generates the most clean energy?

The best area in the UK for providing clean power is Scotland, which produces more than 40% of its power from renewable sources. In fact, there are some areas of Scotland that produce more renewable energy than they can use.

Laughing at those that think oil and gas are the only resources we have. I'd suggest you take a long, hard look at England who can't produce enough energy to support themselves, running out of water, dwindling exports, will no doubt return to fracking soon.

If Scotland gets independence will have to pay for its own infrastructure projects and hand over portion of UK assets.
