Now that it’s all over regardless of if we like the result. I am looking forward to Christmas TV and jollity. AIBU to ask how you will get Christmas done!

  1. What are you looking forward to
  2. What are you doing for others
  3. What are you doing for yourself (yes it’s ok to be a little selfish.)

For me

  1. Being off work and spending time with the people I love and watching DH and DS open their gifts.
  1. We did a reverse advent and some local toy drops. I want to do more next year so going to look into it.
  1. Gin, I am looking forward to having a couple of Gins ridiculous I know but after a nose operation alcohol tasted funny my tastebuds are coming back so a couple of gin for me.

1 I’m looking forward to Xmas food and drink
2 I’m spending much more time than usual with DM who has Alzheimer’s (I will try not to get stressed and frustrated)
3 For me it’s got to be some leisure time and to de stress from work - it may even involve some retail therapy!

Badabingbadabum · 13/12/2019 09:28

I am looking forward to watching my dds open their presents, of which there are not loads but they are all going to make them happy. I hosting christmas day for the first time. I am really looking forward to next christmas, knowing that we are going to be far better off financially so won't have a constant worry.

Chemenger · 13/12/2019 09:30

Today we’re putting up the tree, drinking a bottle of Prosecco and watching a Christmas movie

geekone · 13/12/2019 09:31

@Chemenger that is my plan today too.

Dh ,dd and I filled a shoe box for Homestart with some toys, clothes and necessities although it wouldn’t fit in a shoe box so used a mid sized amazon one , felt nice to know a little girl in a desperate situation would atleast have something to open for Christmas .
Lastly I’m looking forward to finding out what presents dh has got me , I do love presents Grin

TakeMeToYourLiar · 13/12/2019 09:40

Can't wait to see DS open his stocking. He has been asking for the same thing for months. He's going to be thrilled

WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl · 13/12/2019 09:44
  1. Looking forward to seeing family and watching the kids open their presents. It's the first year our youngest has really understood what is going on and she's very excited.
  1. Local charity collects new toy donations to give to vulnerable kids and I buy a few items for that every year.
  1. Nothing. I should probably look into that...
selmabear · 13/12/2019 09:52
  1. Looking forward to a lot of things. To the school holidays. To our pre christmas get away. To food and drinks. To christmas eve. Christmas morning. Boxing day.
  2. Dedicating a whole day to board games with the kids. Cooking for everyone. Making sure DP has a relaxing Christmas as he's in a management he's forced to work a fair bit.
  3. To not leaving the house boxing day. To bot having to host or entertain. Just a day in my pyjamas with DP and 2 DC's. Proper lazy day. Can't wait!
cantfindname · 13/12/2019 09:58

1/ looking forward to it being over! Will enjoy watching G/son open his presents though.

2/ Food bank donations. I would love to spend the day in a homeless centre, cooking and feeding people, but no transport so that is out.

3/ Being on my own and doing what I want to do when I want to do it. If I don't fancy dinner until late then so be it.

SquareAsABlock · 13/12/2019 10:01

Looking forward to having both my eldest and husband off school (the latter is a teacher, obviously). It's been a bloody long term.

For others, well the other half should be bloody grateful I'm entertaining his family again after their ill-mannered behaviour last year. I will be pleasant and a good host, which is more than they deserve.

For myself, I'm taking Christmas Day off (in a way). After last year's nightmare, there will be no rushing off my feet with zero help whilst missing out on my children's excitement. I've planned a day of snacks and fun with the kids, anyone who doesn't like it can stay at home Smile.

mbosnz · 13/12/2019 10:09

What a brilliant idea for a thread!

  1. Looking forward to DH and DD's having a good whack of time off and a really good rest. They can sleep in, mooch around in their pj's all day, just do as we like. And Christmas day just the four of us, just the way we like it.
  1. Doing for others. Doing a big batch of Christmas baking, for girls to take to friends, DH to take to work, and to give to an elderly neighbour who lives on his own. Also checked out how much we have in Tescos vouchers, it's a ridiculous amount, so we're going to get a big ol' trolley and use them all for a big shop for the food bank.
  1. Doing for myself? What I usually do, eat too much of good food, drink a little too much of good wine, and enjoying the company of those I love best in the world.
Livebythecoast · 13/12/2019 10:54

  1. looking forward to going out for Christmas day lunch at a restaurant. I hosted last year so will be nice to not cook!

  2. for others - doing a Lidl shop and giving it to our local homeless charity.

  3. for me - just spending time with my loved ones Xmas Grin

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 13/12/2019 11:03
  1. Time with family and friends, all the yummy food and watching DS open the playmobil he’s been watching on you tube for ages that he doesn’t know he’s getting.

  2. Donated to the food bank and a local children’s charity. Have baked my socks off trying to replicate the goodies my lovely granny made who died earlier this year. Hoping this brings some comfort to the family who are missing her.

  3. Boxing Day boozing! No kids, no rellies. Me, DH and all our friends out on an all dayer.

geekone · 13/12/2019 12:26

@WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl you do need to look into number 3. Take a little time for yourself.

Thank you all so far for sharing your Christmas with me

Great thread! I agree it will be nice to turn on the tv and see some Christmas cheer instead of wall to wall politics!

  1. I’m really looking forward to seeing my 5 year old on Christmas morning, he is a total Santa addict this year so I can’t wait to see his face. Also to spend some quality time with the rest of the family, have a few nice days out and watch some Christmas movies.
  2. We’ve done a reverse advent calendar for our local food bank and on a more personal level we will be having the in laws to stay for a few days, FIL has dementia so hopefully the change of scenery will be nice for him and also a bit of a break for MIL.
  3. I’m planning on treating myself to a bottle of grey goose to enjoy whilst binge watching the new season of You on Netflix over a couple of evenings!
Difficultcustomer · 13/12/2019 12:45

Going back to family and friends and parents cooking

Have given to food banks

At least a few true lie ins

ravensoaponarope · 13/12/2019 19:04
  1. Spending time with my mum and friend.
  2. will give to food bank in January when flood of donations has lessened.
  3. going to binge watch youtube families unwrapping gifts Christmas evening. Plus every day am relaxing enjoying looking at the lights on my tree.
UnalliterativeGeorge · 13/12/2019 19:10
  1. DH not being at work for Christmas day or boxing day for once!
  2. My friend is a single parent at the minute and has nobody who will get her a present. We're going round on Christmas eve so the children can play together so I'm sneaking in a stocking of presents for her to find the next day.
  3. I'm looking forward to not having to answer "when's Christmas?" twenty times a day! And eating my body weight in mince pies
AlwaysThereForEveryoneElse · 13/12/2019 19:11

Dh having a couple of days off.. Paid. And possible extras if not much work to be done but at least an early Finish. And dsd being with us Xmas night till boxing night. ( were doing gifts boxing day with her)

For others.. Having inlaws here for dinner.. Altho dh has offered to cook.

For myself.. Sitting on my fat 36w ( at Xmas) pregnant ass and playing with the kids.

AlwaysThereForEveryoneElse · 13/12/2019 19:12

And have given to food banks and a local toy donation point.

SeaViewBliss · 13/12/2019 19:17

1 having the week off. Having DD home. Having lots of laughs with DH and the DCs. Seeing my extended family.

2 DS and I are collecting toiletries for the local housing charity and will also be visiting a couple of neighbours who are alone. I also volunteered at a local charity carol concert last week.

3 I’ve been wanting to do this for about 10 years and finally I am going to see the Muppet Christmas Carol at the cinema on Christmas Eve. All by myself and laden with sweets!!!!

geekone · 13/12/2019 23:39

@SeaViewBliss I love the muppets Christmas Carol. Seeing it at the cinema would be great.

Arf op...

Yes!! I'm massively looking forward to getting Christmas done. 😁

Nothing Christmas's in house yet. This weekend we will start the production.
My youngest dd. Wow. She's so excited!!
I must admit we've had v tight years gone by, our budget is slightly slacker this year. Well we save of course but I don't have that worry I've previously had!

So yes I'm looking forward to it.

  1. looking forward to dressing the house this weekend and casually shopping for fru fru wrapping bits tomorow. 2)looking forward to dd 2 on Xmas morning.

3)looking forward to dh being off.

RaiseaGlasstoFreedom · 14/12/2019 00:00

Arf sorry op mis read.

I've not done anything else yet. However some places are still collecting shoe boxes so will do one of those and do donations to food banks... I also think I'll do a Barbados donation for panto or something.

Chemenger · 14/12/2019 07:56

Put up the tree yesterday, the house is full of the most amazing smell of pine.
