I had a suspicion this might be the outcome but not with such a huge majority!!
Exit poll predicting 368 seats! I really thought it would be closer ...

I hate this. We all vote regarding our beliefs in politicians/policies.

I'm entitled to my vote. My vote has been influenced by self ID.

BMW6 · 12/12/2019 23:17

Have you ever read the little march girl?!!

Yes indeed I have, but this has made me LOL for sheer mawkish angst

Greggers2017 · 12/12/2019 23:18

@kalinkafoxtrot45 we live in a democracy, this is what happens. It's ok to be disappointed by the result but you can't attack people because they have a different opinion to you. It's just plain nasty

FeckArseMerlot · 12/12/2019 23:20

WatchingTheMoon Same. I wouldn’t describe myself as a ‘loyal supporter’ of JC, but I haven’t seen good arguments for this attitude presented either. I sense people are busy, they survey the information out there and gauge what’s being said, and split the difference.

FeckArseMerlot · 12/12/2019 23:23

NemophilistRebel The outcomes we are currently seeing actually do parallel the 30s and 40s.

NemophilistRebel · 12/12/2019 23:23

The scaremongering by the labour supporters has been of a similar ilk

WatchingTheMoon · 12/12/2019 23:28

"The scaremongering by the labour supporters has been of a similar ilk"

You're still not actually explaining your position, however.

"You're still not actually explaining your position, however."

Votes have been cast, no need to explain any longer (not there was any need to give in to demands in the first place), we now wait for the results.

ZandathePanda · 12/12/2019 23:34

What have the tories ever done in Blyth

WatchingTheMoon · 12/12/2019 23:34

"Votes have been cast, no need to explain any longer (not there was any need to give in to demands in the first place), we now wait for the results."

So why are we even here then, if it is not to discuss?

Why don't we all just watch our tellies in silence?

Strange comment.

DisorganisedOrganiser · 12/12/2019 23:36

Exactly Zanda Sad. It beggars belief.

SusieOwl4 · 12/12/2019 23:38

Here is a message for all the really nasty posters , what labour needs is a new leader . An effective opposition .it is Not about selfishness or the rich and poor . It is about not being devisive or offering freebies for votes . Not all conservatives are rich . Life is not black and white . Get real and get another leader

Bjinafridge · 12/12/2019 23:40

This is a disaster. Little Englanders will have their little England - but at what cost?

I work in mental health and I genuinely fear for our underfunded services at a time when each shift is just crisis management, keeping someone safe for 24 hours.

But at least we're getting Brexit hey?

Ashamed.

Crunchymum · 12/12/2019 23:42

I'm assuming @SinisterBumFacedCat is 10 or younger?

Crunchymum · 12/12/2019 23:43

FFS 19 or younger

colouringinpro · 12/12/2019 23:48

Horrendous. My ds, like many children, is already being totally failed by CAMHS and NHS. 😪😪😪

WatchingTheMoon · 12/12/2019 23:54

"This is a disaster. Little Englanders will have their little England - but at what cost?"

That's not really how it is though, is it?

Can you really categorise Blyth as little England?

What about all the people from immigrant backgrounds and working class backgrounds who have switched to Tory?

The left really don't understand what is happening in politics these days and until they do, we don't stand a chance of getting in.

Mintychoc1 · 12/12/2019 23:57

I think this is all about Brexit, and the remain MPs have shot themselves in the foot. If they hadn’t dug their heels in and blocked every single deal offered, then a general election would never have happened, and Boris wouldn’t have got such a big majority. If these exit polls are right, he’ll be able to push through a much harder Brexit than the one he proposed before.

Remainer Tories still bored Tory as they couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Corbyn.
Leavers who might normally vote labour would have voted Tory to get Brexit.
It was short sighted of remainer MPs to block previous deals.

Moomin8 · 13/12/2019 00:04

Labour voters are in it for themselves because they wanted all the nice free stuff without thinking of the consequences. That’s selfish.

That is such a load of shit !!

WatchingTheMoon · 13/12/2019 00:05

"Labour voters are in it for themselves because they wanted all the nice free stuff without thinking of the consequences. That’s selfish."

That's a very restricted view.

The very hungry tortoise

If we are a laughing stock why has the pound got stronger???

MargotLovedTom1 · 13/12/2019 00:14

The Tories have historically done sweet FA in Blyth Valley - there's never been a Conservative MP there before. It was the sort of place where a monkey would be voted in if it had a red rosette. I'm absolutely shocked.

WatchingTheMoon · 13/12/2019 00:29

"If we are a laughing stock why has the pound got stronger???"

The British love to say we're a laughing stock. I think it's some kind of weird colonial throwback where we assume we're at the forefront of everyone's minds.

Most people in Europe and the rest of the world this morning will barely register we even had an election this morning. My non-British husband barely cares.

I work in a really international environment outside the UK and most people just don't even think about us or Brexit. Many people hadn't even heard of Boris Johnson.

British people are so self-absorbed, even though the left would deny it.

soupforbrains · 13/12/2019 16:28

@MargotLovedTom1 I'm mildly surprised at most, but not Shocked.

Blyth Valley voted resoundingly for Brexit. That took precedent this election over anything else. It's a significant loss of a labour stronghold but we should have seen it coming.
