To be so shocked at exit poll - conservative majority

jellybean85 · 12/12/2019 22:05

I had a suspicion this might be the outcome but not with such a huge majority!!
Exit poll predicting 368 seats! I really thought it would be closer ...

Not sure it is an overreaction. Many people will die due to this result (NHS and welfare state cuts) of have their life outcomes severely restricted (cuts to education).

Livpool · 12/12/2019 22:30

@PinkiOcelot well that is what the Tories will say when even more homeless die on the street. All their own fault...apparently

Mum2jenny · 12/12/2019 22:30

Lets wait and see the actual result tomorrow before everyone throws the toys out the Pram.
I’d guess around 40 to 60% of ppl voted for the new government I.e. conservative ( if you believe the exit poll).
I’d delay the panic till tomorrow if you feel that way.

UndertheCedartree · 12/12/2019 22:34

So scared Sad I am one of those people the Tories hate right now...mentally unwell and poor. The whole Universal Credit process has been hell and put me into debt which I have never been in before.

MarianaMoatedGrange · 12/12/2019 22:35

Fucking bastarding cunting hell. I feel sick. What the actual fuck Britain?

TheoriginalLEM · 12/12/2019 22:35

Absolutely devastated but you kniw what, fucking leave, throw the NHS to the wolves.

We are fucked

soupforbrains · 12/12/2019 22:36

I'm the same, I expected a Tory victory, but I didn't expect it to be such a massive majority.

Reading up on the exit polls although the actual outcome hasn't been correct the last few elections the seat predictions have been accurate to approx 15 seats.

We need to all be ready to be open minded, open hearted, compassionate and caring to our neighbours and the vulnerable in our communities because no matter how things work out in the long run, in the short-mid term things are going to be rocky and we can only see it through by pulling together.

Solihooley · 12/12/2019 22:38

I honestly feel heartbroken. I feel like pulling up the drawbridge now, only looking out for myself and my family and trying to make sure my children/parents are looked after, what else can we do when we live in such a heartless country? It makes me wonder why the fuck I bother volunteering in my community when it wont make a blind bit of difference. Kids will still be growing up in abject poverty with minimal life chances and medical/social services that are almost non existent. I’m so despondent.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 12/12/2019 22:38

I'm surprised it's such a huge majority shown in the exit polls. And as much as I don't want to assume, they're generally a pretty good indicator of what's about to come.

I'm not one for political rants at all, but tonight just feels sad.

CanICelebrate · 12/12/2019 22:39

I don’t think it’s that surprising. I think if people have only been looking at social media then you’d be expecting a labour win, but looking at polls recently I think conservative were always going to win.

Prevegen4U · 12/12/2019 22:39

Well done UK Conservatives! The thought of Comrade Corbyn being at the helm made me feel a bit sick.

CanICelebrate · 12/12/2019 22:39

I am very relieved by these exit polls

RozHuntleysStump · 12/12/2019 22:40

Very good news. Expected though, surely?

TheoriginalLEM · 12/12/2019 22:41

@solihooley this is exactly how i feel.

There was so much at stake - I feel sick

1stmonkey · 12/12/2019 22:42

Not surprised at all. It's time for labour to put up an effective leader and replace the terrorist supporting anti-semite.

TigerJoy · 12/12/2019 22:43

The world is literally on fire, racism is on the rise globally and we've just got an incompetent pathological liar to take us out of the European Union. I wouldn't be surprised if suicide rates go up.

billysboy · 12/12/2019 22:43

Fantastic result

WatchingTheMoon · 12/12/2019 22:46

I'm lefter than Corbyn is but Labour need to accept that the UK is never going to vote that way.

NemophilistRebel · 12/12/2019 22:46

It’s had a massively positive effect on exchange rates - this will give better weight to negotiations in Europe

To be so shocked at exit poll - conservative majority
PinkiOcelot · 12/12/2019 22:46

@jellybean85 No I don’t think it is an over reaction.
Have you ever read the little march girl?!!

fairway21 · 12/12/2019 22:46

Absolute shit show

SuitablyDull · 12/12/2019 22:47

There was never really going to be another outcome...Labour were never in the running as no one trusts their leader.
I didn't vote Tory. I have in the past. This time I actually felt there was no ideal way to vote.

HostessTrolley · 12/12/2019 22:48

I think people haven’t voted for the conservatives, they’ve voted against Corbyn.

littlepaddypaws · 12/12/2019 22:50

you have to ask yourselves why these projected results are as they are, as both sides seem to be geared up as to how great their party is.
have labour dropped because of corbyn ?

thetoddleratemyhomework · 12/12/2019 22:51

To be honest, most of the people that I know felt that they voted for the least worst candidate in this election - more so than usual. Sadly, I think that the majority are right in thinking that Corbyn was a bad candidate (though I am not keen on Boris either) - his history of backing some very dodgy characters over his career as a politician makes people question his judgement and the manifesto really displayed some spectacular errors of judgement (like the WASPI women giveaway - I think give always by the state really must be means tested) and without a very convincing policy on Brexit or self ID. I think labour is still having a bit of an identity crisis and tried to please everyone and then ended up with mistrust from a lot of floating voters who felt none of it could be achievable. Honestly, as someone who wants to be able to vote for a decent compassionate centrist party, I am thinking of joining the tories, at least to be able to have a voice. When and if labour sheds the momentum influence, I would love to join the Labour Party, but at the moment, I don't think my voice would be welcome.
