I'm an intelligent woman and I keep up with current affairs. I can't for the life of me decide who I should vote for tomorrow, because they all seem like terrible choices. I can't see a single option that I'm content with.

Every time I read an appeal by someone to vote for Labour, or vote for the Conservatives, I think 'no way!', but I don't like the Lib Dems either and voting for any other party will be a waste of a vote.

I live in a safe Conservative area anyway, so my vote is unlikely to sway anything.

But I know that people sacrificed so I can vote, so I can't not vote.

The more you hear then the worse they look. I’ve rarely felt so stumped. Hate it.

DryIce · 11/12/2019 19:08

I've never yet met a political party that ticked all my boxes. Choose the one you agree with most, or their direction of travel. Ignore the party leaders (who are still subject to parliament, they're not monarchs!), and vote for the best local MP

Lllot5 · 11/12/2019 19:12

I’ve just had this exact conversation with my daughter. I can usually pick which one I want or at least know who I don’t want, this is impossible.
My granddaughter has some health issues so I’ve plumped for Labour.

Spudlet · 11/12/2019 19:13

I also have no clue. I can be sure I’m not voting Conservative but beyond that... no clue.

It’s bloody awful, tbh. And I used to be a Whitehall civil servant and then a lobbyist, so it’s not like I haven’t been engaged with this, or I have a habit of saying ‘They’re all the saaaaame!’ I just don’t have a clue this time!

Barneythedinosaur · 11/12/2019 19:14

Try this website
voteforpolicies.org.uk/

It anonymises policies, you chose which you definitely dont want and which might be ok for each topic, then pick your favourite.
Takes about 15 mins if you do every topic

Haworthia · 11/12/2019 19:14

I know how you feel. I was tempted to spoil my ballot, but then stuck my postcode into a tactical vote website and went with what it told me to get the Tories out. Pointless, as I live in the safest of Tory seats, but there you go 🤷‍♀️

Bombaybunty · 11/12/2019 19:19

I feel exactly the same. I work for the NHS and I've usually voted Labour. Not impressed with Corbyn and some of his policies.
I voted remain but feel that the country voted to leave and therefore we should be leaving. I really can't bring myself to vote Conservative.
I live in a safe Tory seat.

ARrrggghhhh.

Lulualla · 11/12/2019 19:21

I might end up voting SNP. I hate SNP. In my constituency there were 300 votes between SNP and conservative last time, so my choices really are SNP or conservative. Any other vote won't matter; its between those two.

OhChristmasTreee · 11/12/2019 19:25

Any other vote won't matter; its between those two

Same situation here. That’s why I’m voting Tory tbh. I can’t stomach the SNO and I want no part in their supposed mandate for a second independence referendum

Stinkyeddie · 11/12/2019 19:25

Lulualla · 11/12/2019 19:29

I usually vote Tory (which will get my hanged, I know) but I really can't support them anymore. The most recent poll puts independence at 44% so my hope is that if SNP can keep a seat away from the tories, then it still won't send us for another independence vote because support for that is waning

OhChristmasTreee · 11/12/2019 19:34

It hasn’t been an easy decision Lulu and I’m still not 100% sure for that very reason (they are just terrible and I worry about the karma)

Lougle · 11/12/2019 19:40

Ok, I've done the survey and it shows that....I can't make my mind up between parties Grin

Labour 26.7%
Lib Dems 26.7%
Conservatives 20%
Brexit Party 13.3%
Green Party 13.3%

I don't like Labour because I think that JC has spent every £ 3 times. I don't like Lib Dems because they demonstrated that they will do anything to get into power, then do the complete opposite once there. I don't like Conservatives because they have stripped vulnerable people of much needed support. Brexit Party and Greens are not even a consideration....

I think, fundamentally, I just don't trust any of them to tell the truth.

Cornettoninja · 11/12/2019 19:43

I’m in a safe Tory seat so have looked at who is most likely to unseat them and will be voting tactically based on that. I’m fully aware it probably won’t get the result I would prefer but at least I’m following my own conscience.

To be honest in an ideal world I’d like the option to vote none of the above and have it matter (% of the electorate vote none of the above triggers a coalition and another general election in twelve months maybe?) because I don’t think anyone in the running is in any way good for the country or up to the job. They’re all far to reliant on results that have tiny majorities as being ‘the will of the people’.

TFthatsover · 11/12/2019 19:47

Thanks for the survey @Barneythedinosaur.

My results are almost equally split between labour Tory and Brexit party which surprises me.

Still don't know which way I'm voting Hmm

CanIHaveADrink · 11/12/2019 19:50

@Lougle, I agree with you with the idea that no choice is appealing.
I think this time more than ever, it’s not about voting FOR someone but AGAINST someone.
Who, from all of them, do not want to see on power for the next 5 years? And then vote against them.

Lougle · 11/12/2019 19:55

@CanIHaveADrink the thing is, Conservatives won by 26,000 votes, a 4x lead on the next party, last time.

Birthdaycakemondays · 11/12/2019 19:56

@Barneythedinosaur. Thanks for survey. Looks like a no brainer...

AIBU - I feel like a toddler stamping my feet.
missymousey · 11/12/2019 20:05

Lulualla - I'm exactly the same as you (maybe same constituency it sounds like).

I can't even think about Boris without fuming, and the more I read about the Tories the less I can stomach them. I'm going to have to hold my nose to vote for an SNP candidate I can't bear and then HOPE like hell that we wont end up with yet another flaming Scottish referendum. Miserable miserable choice. Sack the bloody lot of them!

claracluck78 · 11/12/2019 20:06

Same here

I Used to be a Tory party member but I tore up my membership after the referendum. We live in a v safe Tory seat (15,000 majority over labour)

I think it may come down to the wire with me. I was over 40% labour when I did the questionnaire online & I suspect they will get my vote in a hope that they do reduce the majority the Torres have here. I would vote Lib Dem if their candidate was closer/2nd.

I have always voted since 1997 when I first turned 18. I have always voted FOR someone. In this election I definitely feel like I'm using my vote to vote AGAINST someone.

CanIHaveADrink · 11/12/2019 20:08

@Lougle, that would be the case, regardless of whether you know or not who to vote for.
Even if you want to vote for someone who is not a Tories, by voting you are showing your support for someone else. And maybe the gap between the two first candidates will be smaller and it will open doors for the following election. Who knows.
But you can’t say there is no point voting for anyone else bar the conservatives because they have such a lead (in your constituency)

CrohnicallyEarly · 11/12/2019 20:30

I looked at that website and I just can’t pick policies half the time. I mean, abolishing zero hours contracts, or having a right to request a proper contract after 12 weeks sounds good, but the cynical side of me says people will be even worse off as they’ll be turfed out of their job after 11 weeks... zero hours contracts do have their place (seasonal work, relief cover) and I fear that trying to legislate against them will backfire. Likewise with most of the policies, I can’t help but see the downsides of them.

polkadotpixie · 11/12/2019 20:42

@Lougle I wonder if we live in the same constituency because the Tories have a 26K majority here too

I'm equally undecided. I've always voted Labour but am considering the Lib Dems too, I'm stumped

Lougle · 11/12/2019 20:43

@ChronicallyEarly that's if you can get to the point that you believe what they say their policy says.
