To ask those who are considering voting conservative a question?

I'm not sure I can convince anyone who has decided to vote Conservative not to.

So I won't insult you by insinuating you don't care about vulnerable people in society, because I assume you do care and probably think that it's not an ideology but just that the conservatives do a better job at being sensible with the economy and therefore will actually be better at making sure there is enough money in the economy to protect those that need protecting.

IS it OK though if I ask you to explain to me why on page 4 of the Conservatives manifesto costings document

( assets-global.website-files.com/5da42e2cae7ebd3f8bde353c/5ddaa257967a3b50273283c4_Conservative%202019%20Costings.pdf)

they have the spending for supporting disabled children like mine (Autism and learning disability fund) being cut to ZERO by 2023, whilst spending more than the same amount on bringing in Voter ID in the same period?

That link doesn't work for me, OP.

Disclaimer: not voting Tory btw

Musix · 11/12/2019 14:00

These people don't care. I'm sorry. I'm not one of them. They will give reasons, but reality is THEY JUST DON'T CARE. They have what they need, so nobody else matters. They haven't got the imagination to realise they might not always be in the same position.

Let's hope more people care than don't.

poltergust · 11/12/2019 14:01

Genuine question (not voting Tory) but is that fund being replaced by something else? As it just seems bizarre to be working to cutting it to 0 when the others are largely going up.

berryfull · 11/12/2019 14:01

does this link work? if it doesn't just google it, its in their manifesto costings document on page 4

Thanks can see your screen shot

berryfull · 11/12/2019 14:03

poltergust, i don't know. That's why I'm asking!

OP posts:
MrsAgassi · 11/12/2019 14:06

I also imagine it’s being replaced by something else. I would expect a reduction in prior years if it were a genuine cut.

Also not voting Conservative!

poltergust · 11/12/2019 14:06

I'd imagine only they know the answer, not their supporters on Mumsnet.

Janus · 11/12/2019 14:06

Photo shows up for me. How bloody terrifying. I would never vote Tory though.

PBo83 · 11/12/2019 14:11

I assume they will just be changing the way that support is distributed (like the change from WTC to UC). Don't know for sure though.

tabulahrasa · 11/12/2019 14:11

“I also imagine it’s being replaced by something else.”

Well nobody’s saying what if it is, people have been asking about it since it was released and nobody has addressed it... so I’m assuming it’s not being replaced but they don’t want to say that till after the election tbh.

Enb76 · 11/12/2019 14:12

It's going elsewhere rather than disappearing it's being used in a different way - I'm not sure how truthful any manifesto is though so...

We will treat mental health with the

will legislate so that patients suffering

 We will make it easier for people

We will also provide £74 million over

janinlondon · 11/12/2019 14:14

Not a tory voter, but this document is about additional spending commitments ( see first page) "This document sets out the additional spending commitments"

Enb76 · 11/12/2019 14:15

Oh - I just realised that that is that fund. I imagine they'll be a new costings in place at that point when they know how much money they have for the later years of their term.

mauvaisereputation · 11/12/2019 14:18

I've always voted labour and will be doing so tomorrow BUT the commentary on the table (not visible on that screenshot) says that this is ADDITIONAL spending. The table shows that the Tories propose additional spending of £24m, £25m and £25m on the LD&A Fund in 20-21, 21-22 and 22-23 and then no additional spending in 23-24.

mauvaisereputation · 11/12/2019 14:19

Oops x-post.

tabulahrasa · 11/12/2019 14:21

“I imagine they'll be a new costings in place at that point when they know how much money they have for the later years of their term.”

Everything else continues past that year...

Verite1 · 11/12/2019 14:22

Not a Tory and never have been. But it is clear that this is an extra £74 mill for the additional capacity in community care settings. It’s not about reducing support for disabled children to 0. There are plenty of issues to criticise Tories on. No point concentrating on one which is easily debunked.

GCAcademic · 11/12/2019 14:22

they have the spending for supporting disabled children like mine (Autism and learning disability fund) being cut to ZERO by 2023

The costings document sets out additional spending, and how it will be costed. Therefore it indicates that for three years there will be an additional £24-25 million spent in this area each year, and that these yearly increases will stop in the fourth year.

It does not at all indicate that the spending on learning disabilities will be cut to zero. That is propaganda that has been doing the rounds on social media.

GCAcademic · 11/12/2019 14:24

Ooops, lots of cross posts.

GCAcademic · 11/12/2019 14:25

That is propaganda that has been doing the rounds on social media.

And on that point, it's no surprise that the OP is yet another poster who appears to have signed up just to post this misleading information.

berryfull · 11/12/2019 14:28

Thank you for the explanations, that makes more sense. I did see this on Facebook and it scared me, hence asking the question.

Still not sure though why the Additional Spending stops after three years though, whilst more money than would be needed to continue it is spent on bringing in Voter ID?

It just speaks to me as warped priorities, that there’s a preference to bring in voter ID than to continue this funding ?

OP posts:
tabulahrasa · 11/12/2019 14:29

“It does not at all indicate that the spending on learning disabilities will be cut to zero“

It indicates that they’re funding changes in support for 3 years and then cutting that funding.

So what replaces it?

tiggertogger · 11/12/2019 14:29

Interesting how these posters who are so 'concerned' aren't concerned enough to read the information they are sharing. I don't believe that many posters are illiterate (seen this post many times now) For those at the back, it's ADDITIONAL funding.
