Just that really - looking for inspiration beyond Charades and the few board games we have in the cupboard.

Ready to buy things - or be inspired by yours¡

Oh, we don't tend to play games that involve quick reactions as DS has slow processing, and it's just not fun for him.

SpoonBlender · 15/12/2019 03:43

Obama Llama is fantastic fun - doesn't sound like it's going to be, usually the reaction to a quick description is "errrr...", but after about two minutes it's a hit everywhere I've tried it so far. It's a fast-paced mix of pop knowledge, rhyming clues, charades and memory. Which doesn't sound great! But it is!

It's got better party moves than CAH or Exploding Kitten have, and that's saying something.

Lellikelly26 · 15/12/2019 06:52

Cards against humanity as long as they are older teens and parents have a sense of humour

MangoStone · 15/12/2019 07:54

Ours (15 and 13) love Dixit, we play that the most.

Have bought them a new game each for Christmas, Concept and the Game of Things.

Ethelswith · 15/12/2019 08:02

Older teens - Cards Against Humanity

As there is also a mid teen, we're trying Exploding Kittens this year

Otherwise, we play cards - most popular are a version of Newmarket and Durak

Orangecake123 · 15/12/2019 08:03

Cards against humanity.

crummyusername · 15/12/2019 14:21

Mine are slightly younger (9 and 12) but Dixit and Labyrinth I think would work for older kids too, we enjoy those a lot.

@HoldMyLobster how hard is Mah Jong to learn?

percheron67 · 15/12/2019 15:53

Pin the tail on the Corbyn.

yellowellies · 15/12/2019 16:02

Played one at a board game cafe called Scrawl which was funny(like Chinese whispers, but drawing) and have bought Randomise for nephew this Christmas ( mix of charades, articulate and Pictionary)

HoldMyLobster · 15/12/2019 16:55

how hard is Mah Jong to learn

It's a lot like Rummy - I don't think it's too hard at all. It's also fun because it's a bit different. The way the tiles click is quite satisfying :-)

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 15/12/2019 16:59

Taskmaster - looks lots of fun.

definitelyshouldknowbetter · 15/12/2019 17:05

There’s an app called Kahoot where you can set your own quiz up or use some of theirs and you all play on your phone, it’s a fastest finger first and you can see on the main screen how everyone is doing, that’s always fun when there’s a few people, it gets very competitive in our house!

Iamnotagoddess · 15/12/2019 17:06

Cards Against Humanity, it’s wrong but hilarious.

RedandYellowSunrise · 15/12/2019 17:16

Great thread.
Agree with lots of the above, something not mentioned but tame is monopoly card game. My older teens enjoy it

dementedma · 15/12/2019 17:19

Not really a games person but teens/young adults like Linkee, Obama Llama, and Cards against Humanity

Slazengerbag · 15/12/2019 17:38

Cards against humanity and I have purchased What do you meme? This year.

30to50FeralHogs · 15/12/2019 19:52

Just thought of another game we play together. It’s called That's You on the PlayStation. Everyone connects via their phone/iPad etc and then the game asks questions about who’s more likely to say/do x,y, x and you vote for each other. You have to add captions to photos and draw on photos of each other (we mainly end up with turds and penises drawn onto faces of course). I’m not a fan of PlayStation etc but this is one game we all enjoy.

Coldwatershock · 15/12/2019 20:26

Catan, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne.
Challenging but not too difficult to learn and all last under an hour.

loveyouradvice · 18/12/2019 01:12

what a great thread - just bought 3 games! Usually only buy one for Xmas...

Beeziekn33ze · 18/12/2019 01:26

Cards Against Humanity (some packs too US centric) Dixit, Codeword. Pointless Game based on the show.

Sparklybaublefest · 18/12/2019 07:22

i want a good game that you can learn the rules of when you have had a drink?
, for 6, adults

Shoxfordian · 18/12/2019 07:51

Mind job is really fun, you have to say a colour not the word, there are some swear words though

If you like Pandemic, then try Pandemic Legacy, its an ongoing story that changes the board, really good
