....for eating my dinner! (Leon chicken satay box, not very stinky). She keeps side-eyeing me every time I take a mouthful. Am also a tweny by it tipsy after post off-site drinks. It's been a looooong day ( up v early for train to London then full day of meetings).
She's going to be even more enraged when I get the mince pie dessert out in a minute! Grin

I'm glad I read this thread because now I know I'm the only one who finds these new, improved trains makes me motion sick. Was on the West Coast line last month and felt vaguely nauseated, something that's never happened before.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 12/12/2019 17:49

Ooh I had a bacon cob and a sausage cob on Cross Country yesterday. It was included it first class. Only a 2 hour journey as well.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 12/12/2019 17:50

Someone else had orange juice which is offensive and hurtful to my nose as I. Hate. Oranges.

Dolorabelle · 12/12/2019 17:56

Only a 2 hour journey as well

Aha!

You have just proved as indubitable FACT that everyone on MN has to eat every 2 hours.

andpancakesforbreakfast · 12/12/2019 18:04

at least the same posters who HAVE to eat when they go to watch a movie because it's "part of the experience". Classic MN. Smile

And yes, you CAN eat in a cinema, one of my local ones even serves hot food. So why wouldn't you, you might pass out of starvation if you don't eat for an entire movie..

I sleep better if I don't eat junk on a train, but hey ho.

Lizzie0869 · 12/12/2019 18:05

@andpancakesforbreakfast but I don't travel by train, I travel by car, so it doesn't affect me. All I'm saying is that if food is sold in buffet cars and there's a trolley with food available, people will buy food if they're hungry. And why shouldn't they? I don't see why it would be an issue. It's also a way for the train services to make extra money.

Anyway, as I've said before, it's called public transport for a reason.

FruitcakeOfHate · 12/12/2019 18:07

Maybe they just enjoy eating, pancake. Our cinema serves Rollover hotdogs. If we go to a showing over a meal time we have one of those.

Lizzie0869 · 12/12/2019 18:16

why such a long thread if everybody really did agree with you? Bizarre...

Probably because it's actually funny AF to see how wound up people get about something so banal and rather funny to wind them up further

It's definitely not that anyone else agrees with you, they just find you funny.

messolini9 · 12/12/2019 18:16

Cheers @penberrh :)

don’t think her posts need to be given much credence Messolini :D

& I normally wouldn't be arsed to take the bait, but am between contracts & it is strangely fun ... almost like a cross between language translation tests & studying for the Bar in some instances, iykwim ...

messolini9 · 12/12/2019 18:26

Probably a Leon grilled halloumi wrap, or maybe a naked Burrito on the train

@Dolorabelle your pre-sinning confessional makes for an impressive list. So impressive I barely [sic] know where to start berating you for the common-ness that actually MY Governess instructed me was common to discuss.

But I might advise that slurping, munching, gobbling (oo-er missus), cramming, stuffing, spilling, or even nibbling daintily on a burrito while naked on a train is NOT going to be well received here.

In fact I don't think you'd get away with it even with a Polite Sandwich.

FruitcakeOfHate · 12/12/2019 18:27

How about some rice, fruit or cake to go with your Polite Sandwich? Or will you be instead having a Furtive Sandwich?

everythingisginandroses · 12/12/2019 18:34

Hot smelly food is a no-no on the train, v inconsiderate. A salad sounds ok, will have to take yr word for it that it's not really smelly, though, OP...

FruitcakeOfHate · 12/12/2019 18:36

The train sells the hot smelly food in many cases. Hmm

messolini9 · 12/12/2019 18:38

@FruitcakeOfHate, I suspect the Furtive Sandwich is reserved for those who go one step further & indulge themselves with such practices quoted upthread as People will continue to eat on trans.

(an understandable yet glorious typo from a perfectly decent PP ... heavens forfend I deRAIL the thread with it)

Lizzie0869 · 12/12/2019 18:43

I know, that was me, I meat 'trains' of course. Very funny of course! Blush

Lizzie0869 · 12/12/2019 18:48

I've no problem with my post derailing the thread. But I stand by what I meant. People will go on buying food to eat if it's for sail from the trolley. Especially if it's at the end of a long day.

Dolorabelle · 12/12/2019 18:49

What have cinemas got to do with it? Have I missed an even newer train with a cinema on board?

Lizzie0869 · 12/12/2019 18:50

Oh no, another case of predictive text, I meant 'sale', not 'sail'. We're not talking about travelling by ferry!! 🤣🤣

FruitcakeOfHate · 12/12/2019 18:50

Or just if they fancy something to eat, you don't always want a poxy salad or a sandwich.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/12/2019 18:57

I think someone should nominate this for classics it's been so entertaining - what do you reckon peeps? Not sure I'm allowed to nominate myself.

OP posts:
HunterHearstHelmsley · 12/12/2019 19:01

@Dolorabelle it actually doesn't count because it was free. They also has zero calories.

Dolorabelle · 12/12/2019 19:08

Oooo @HunterHearsHelmsley yes that’s true.

And if you were in First Class you can’t possibly be common. It’s the law.

Dolorabelle · 12/12/2019 19:14

Although at the moment, all the trains at Paddington seem to be cancelled. I may have to eat my naked burrito perched here waiting to see if I’ll get home within the decade. Bugger it - I have a super long day tomorrow and an important (but boring) work event all Saturday morning. And an actual international flight later that day. I don’t suppose I’m going to get a proper nights sleep until Monday night. And then not in my own bed. The joys of the public sector

More importantly, do they still sell the Thai green curry box in Leon by the way?

Hungry now.
