To think that the woman next to me on the train is judging me...

....for eating my dinner! (Leon chicken satay box, not very stinky). She keeps side-eyeing me every time I take a mouthful. Am also a tweny by it tipsy after post off-site drinks. It's been a looooong day ( up v early for train to London then full day of meetings).
She's going to be even more enraged when I get the mince pie dessert out in a minute! Grin

I love a train meal! Those long distance trains are made for it - the stations are made for it!

Now, I wouldn't do it on the Tube, or on Merseyrail, where the journeys are usually half hour max. But London to Liverpool? Stevenage to Newcastle? God yes, I will spend a while debating Pret vs Leon vs Upper Crust. I'll get a latte too. And if I somehow end up in First Class and get FREE train food? Perfect!

It's nicer for you (and them) if there's no random sitting next to you though :)

expatinspain · 11/12/2019 20:16

andpankakesforbreakfast I didn't swear at her, unless you consider me calling her an arse swearing. I simply stated that she must get people telling her to fuck off if she's going around telling people about themselves for eating on a long distance train. I haven't actually met her and told her to fuck off myself.

@joyfullittlehippo I don't do Stella though. Terribly common 😂

Jesus, I think I just laughed more at chrisie's post than "you would have been spoken to". Omfg, MN is amazing tonight 😂😂😂

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 11/12/2019 20:27

Erm I did wonder if she'd posted on the wrong thread. It's a bit random.

I'm wondering what Chrisie said now, I missed that. But yes, this is definitely Mumsnet at its finest, OP. I'm loving this thread. I'm recovering from flu, so I really needed this. Grin

BeatriceTheBeast · 11/12/2019 20:36

Oh lizzie, you missed a treat. Sorry, I can't repeat as it would also get zapped! It was unexpected and very unusual though.

Sounds grim. I hate smelly food on trains. It is a confined space so v selfish.

beautifulstranger101 · 11/12/2019 20:48

The smell of peanuts makes my husband sick (Not allergic) so he'd be very uncomfortable if it was him next to you.
Same goes for curry.
YABU to not realise you're eating something antisocial in an enclosed space

If he's so uncomfortable, he can move then can't he? People aren't telepathic- they can't be expected to instantly know what makes a stranger feel sick or base their entire lives on the preferences of a stranger they might spend 30 mins with on a train. There are foods that make me feel sick but I would never expect complete strangers to cater to my every whim in a public place. That kind of entitlement and preciousness is off the scale ridiculous.

Onehundredandtwo · 11/12/2019 20:55

I'm very unreasonable. I hate sitting near anyone eating. If I had been sat near you OP I would probably have been really tense, stiff neck, gritted teeth, etc. But....if Im traveling and hungry I generally treat myself. Love a train lunch from m&s. I can't justify it. I guess I'm just not bothered by my own eating!

My current favourite Leon food is the Love burger followed by a lemon and ginger crunch cake.

Squigean · 11/12/2019 20:57

But are those larger people lush as in:

fond of the drink
rich in vegetation
attractive

BackBoiler · 11/12/2019 21:03

I was drunk on a train a couple of months back eating a full picnic lunch playing the prodigy on my phone doo doo-ing to it. I did get the carriage doo doo-ing with me though! (And it was a very late train!)

Chrisie? Is that you again?

WheresTheWineHey · 11/12/2019 21:09

I am unsure as to how liking seasoned food could have affected my sex life.

Poplarhawk · 11/12/2019 21:09

There was a woman eating similar chicken meal next me on the train recently. The smell made me feel queasy in the confined space of the train carriage.

I didn't judge her for it, not at all, but it's not the sort of thing I would eat on public transport.

Lizzie0869 · 11/12/2019 21:25

Basically the term 'public transport' sums this up. If you regularly use public transport, that means you're obviously going to be sitting next to a stranger at various times. They might buy food from the buffet car or buy an alcoholic drink. Get used to it.

Maybe go by car instead? Except that you're probably also the sort of person who gets frustrated with other road users as well.

Life is too short. Getting uptight about this sort of thing is seriously not worth it.

manicmij · 11/12/2019 21:26

Go with you Lockheart. To think people used to be considered sluts if seen eating/drinking in the street. No word I can think of to cover what people do in public nowadays.

when the only way you find to reply to a poster is swearing at them, it doesn't make you come in a very good light

Blimey the things one learns on MN.
Is THIS why my ex liked to talk dirty, but only in the dark?
