Tesco delivery

I usually take my Tesco delivery at the front door. the delivery person stands holding the tray and I try to take the heaviest things first and put the on the stalls I have waiting round the corner. One older lady driver sometimes takes the heavier items out and passes them to me before holding the tray with the lighter items. This is all fine.

I'm currently off work with a back injury, after being attacked by one of the disabled people I look after. Maybe I would feel differently about this if I wasn't.

so today's delivery, the driver said "are you okay with your shopping" to which I said yes, thinking he was talking about if I wanted it bought in or to take it from the door step. But instead he just put the stack in front of my door. there was 4 boxes with the first one I thought "ok, no reason for him to hold it for me as it's about the same height" but then he just took the boxes away one by one and I had to bend lower and lower to pick up my items. All in a rush because he is standing there shivering and not making conversation. I felt too embarrassed to ask him to lift the boxes for me.
AIBU to expect that he should have lifted the boxes or items without me having to ask?

Just ask, delivery drivers will not refuse a reasonable request, nor will they think any less of you for it.

I do a monthly Tesco shop, the drivers always help me unpack it onto the hall floor - I don't like them to come in, but often I can't unpack the boxes on my own.
Then later my toddlers like to help bring it all into the kitchen for me - saves me all the bending.
Also, I don't usually need to ask for help, they are very helpful, but if they don't offer I will ask.

This is totally standard. That’s how they always do it for me. Yes it is annoying now that there is no bags so not as quick and have to lift out each item rather than just a couple of bags but meh it’s not the end of the world. Like others have said I’m sure he would have held it had you explained. The drivers always seem helpful to me and always offer to bring it in but my house is always a tip so I always decline Xmas Blush

Of course he should have lifted the boxes, he shouldn’t have even asked you in the first place, you’re a woman and it’s simple courtesy. What is wrong with people? Ocado all the way, I just say “on the table please” and finished!

Hi,
I am a Tesco delivery driver. The first thing we ask when we get to the door is where you would like your shopping. My regular customers just open the door and I walk through to the kitchen! As they know me. If a customer takes their shopping at the door I personally hold each tray for the customer, with the exception of it containing very heavy items. We sometimes have to deliver to top floor flats, with no lifts. And we work to set times, through bad weather and traffic. We always try to be friendly but if we are soaking wet, it is hard to be at your best as you must understand! The best thing I can recommend is in the drivers instructions part, please put any additional help you require, as we will always do this as we read it. The biggest help is not using it to put no green bananas etc! And to give us directions if a difficult property to find. We are their to help you

Yeah, sorry but YABU. This is exactly how all the deliveries I get are and I use a range of supermarkets.

Tesco’s are brilliant - two deliveries a week and they bring it straight through to the kitchen and unpack it onto the kitchen island.
